The Twins sign their first "bargain basement reliever to a minor league contract" of the year. Alex Speas, a 26 year old with a 100 mph fastball who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Cheap ass move by cheap ass organization owned by cheap ass owners.

Makes perfect sense.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (11/27/2024 10:17:11 AM)

Dodgers spend big, get creative and sign a two time Cy Young award winning pitcher.

Twins stay cheap signing but one guy, a minor league free agent bullpen arm with serious control issues.

Boy oh boy do I see us closing the gap.

Baseball needs revenue sharing and a salary cap in the worst way.

Two problems.

the Union wont go for any kind of real salary cap

The owners of the Haves, will never agree to revenue sharing.

But I couldn't agree more with your assessment.

all the other sports have caps and revenue sharing. Some teams have learned to manage it better than others and remain good longer....but there is more competitive balance which in the long run is far better for their respective sports. Baseball needs that too, but they think playoff and world series ratings are more important and they get better ratings with Dodgers and Yankees in perennial contention...so they continue to do nothing

Bill Johanesen -> RE: Twins 2024 Season and Game Day Thread (11/29/2024 4:44:13 AM)

Sounds like instead of a cap, fans of some teams need to stop supporting 'cheap ass' owners.

The MLB has had 16 different champions this century. Baseball is clearly competitive alongside the other major sports. And if they always want the Dodgers vs the Yankees, then they are failing terribly at that.

If I am the Twins. Trade away Paddock Castro and Vazquez. Sign Christian Walker 1/15 or 2/30 and trade for Luzardo.

Why are we holding on to Correa and Buxton? Cut the cord.

No trade clauses and we can compete this year with them if you sign a bat like Walker.

You gain very little with 2 out of the three. Castro can make a difference.

If it was me, which it isn't. I would trade Paddock 7, Vazquez 6 and Castro 8 and get someone a little better than Mark Canha at first. Start with Goldy and try damn hard for Walker. Pay 4 million off of Vazquez and take the 21 and offer him it.

If you have to trade Correa. Do it now and grab that Yankees C\1B Rice, make them take Paddock and Vazquez and get their SS Volpe in the deal. Then sign Walker.

Twins take pitcher Castellano in Rule 5 draft.

I like it. Nothing to lose. He can be the last arm out of the bullpen all year.

I mean, I'd rather have upside than Caleb Thielbar or ol' Longhair Thunderbutt taking that spot.

"Baseball America’s J.J. Cooper, a Rule 5 Draft enthusiast, called Castellano “one of the most talked-about names pre-draft. One of the better combos of stuff and readiness.”"

Weird you are comparing him to 2 lefties when he is a RHP...

You need a LHP out of the pen.

You need a LHP out of the pen.

Matt was talking about the tail end of the BP, not lefty/righty roles.

Sounds like a good plan but the Yankees would never go for it.

His examples though were actually two of our top three the last two years for LH. Caleb and Funderburk were frightening closer to the middle of the BP for usage.

Not by late season. They were straight up terrible.

Two seasons ago was fun when the purse strings were open just a bit. How fast can the Pohlads sell to the Phx Suns owners?
