Apparently the Anderson move is a sign and trade. Wolves will receive a future second round pick from GS.

That's all we could receive. That and cash.

When you're over the 2nd apron you can't take back any salary in a sign and trade.

David Levine -> RE: Timbrwolves 2024 Off-Season and Draft (7/3/2024 2:47:30 PM)

Solid signing.

He doesn;t have too much left in the tank, but he can still shoot the hell out of the ball and is a solid secondary playmaker. Already has chemistry with Rudy and Conley.

Last summer the Wolves were feeling like they had a good chance at landing Joe Ingles — they were offering him around $7M, I remember hearing — but he got blown away by a big, $11M offer from Orlando.

Which is to say, the interest has been there for a while — due to the playmaking, shooting and familiarity with Gobert.

Landing Ingles for the minimum, even at 37 years old, is a win.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Timbrwolves 2024 Off-Season and Draft (7/3/2024 3:23:20 PM)

Ingles and Doug McDerMott have been the two names I’ve heard in connection to the Wolves most this summer.

Not sure if landing Ingles, also a shooter, takes away the interest in McDermott or not. But the Wolves need to sign at least one more player — and it needs to be for the minimum.

McDermott makes no sense. It almost has to be a PG.

We have a 37 year-old starter and a rookie back-up. We need a 3rd guy that can actually play if/when Mike gets hurt and/or Dillingham struggles.

Ant and NAW can play point....but yeah it will probably be a PG. They also have Nix as a 2 way.

They sort of can. NAW got exposed in the Playoffs when we tried to have him bring the ball up the court. And Ant is too valuable on offense and defense to also have him be the primary playmaker. Nix looks like a guy on a 2-way contract.

Lots of our guys got exposed when down to the final 4 or 8 teams. Hope the experience shows them the things they need work on.

I have always really like Joe Ingles, hope he works out really well. I liked Slow Mo a lot too, and wish him well.

What are people hearing about McLaughlin? Isn't there a good chance he will accept a minimum contract?

He's probably hoping for a more defined role. Catch on somewhere as a PG2.

Yeah I’m done with the ‘can kinda sorta play a little pg in a pinch’ approach. That’s not a solid backup plan, especially when your #1 is at the end of the line. And if he goes down you’re handing the keys to a 19 year old kid. Who may surprise and be fine right out of the gate, but may not.

You need another piece.

David Levine -> RE: Timbrwolves 2024 Off-Season and Draft (7/4/2024 10:50:52 AM)

Dane Moore:

What the numbers tell us with Joe Ingles is that he's a player who brings effective playmaking and efficient shooting on a low volume of usage. Very Mike Conley/Kyle Anderson in Chris Finch's sytem.

League leaders last season in assist rate-to-usage rate (minimum 1000 minutes)
1. Tyus Jones: 1.69
2. Chris Paul: 1.68
3. Kelly Olynyk: 1.63
4. Tre Jones: 1.62
5. Joe Ingles: 1.58
6. Mike Conley: 1.56
7. Draymond Green: 1.55
8. Kyle Anderson: 1.52
9. Tyrese Haliburton: 1.51
10. Kris Dunn: 1.50

League-leading "wings" in points per shot attempt last season (minimum 1000 minutes)
1. Grayson Allen: 1.354
2. Dante Exum: 1.308
3. Joe Ingles: 1.276
4. Isaiah Joe: 1.266
5. Corey Kispert: 1.248

These numbers for Ingles also just weren't a one year blip in Orlando -- he's been 97th percentile or higher in assist rate-to-usage rate amongst wings/forwards in 9 of the 10 years he's been in the league, and in 2020-21 Ingles led all wings/forwards in points per shot attempt (while playing with Rudy Gobert that year).

Steve Lentz -> RE: Timbrwolves 2024 Off-Season and Draft (7/4/2024 6:42:27 PM)

Ingles is also a bit of an instigator. Gets under opponents skin.

He actually is, but it likely doesn't matter.

He's a partially guaranteed deal that can serve as a placeholder.

He's a PG/SG/SF that has been playing PG the last 3 years. Woj is lazy because he's wing sized and probably barely knows who he is.

Celtics Two-Way Player PJ Dozier Has Evolved Into Being An Elite G League Point Guard

While he’s technically in the same position that he was during the prior season, Dozier has looked like a different player with the Maine Red Claws than with the OKC Blue. That fact is evident by how he’s averaging 21.3 points, 7 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 46% from the field and 32% from beyond the arc on 5.3 attempts per game. With Maine, he’s currently averaging a career-high in points, rebounds and assists per game.

Among the categories where he’s made strides, Dozier’s progression as a passer is definitely the most glaring. While he showed flashes of having solid passing skills during his time at South Carolina and with the OKC Blue, those traits have taken a huge spotlight since he’s joined the Red Claws. His potential as a lead distributor was seen from the start of the season as he averaged 5.6 assists per game in November. During that month, he had some big facilitating games as he had 9 assists in a November 4th game against the Blue Coats and 11 assists on November 29th against the Windy City Bulls.

His role within that role would grow significantly after the Celtics released point guard Walt Lemon from his two-way deal. Immediately after Lemon left the team, Maine immediately transitioned Dozier from playing SG/SF to being the team’s starting point guard. That transition immediately vaulted Dozier into being one of the league’s better facilitators as he’s averaging a very nice 6.9 assists per game with a 1.9 Ast/TO ratio since he made his first start at point guard on December 31st.

Dozier’s solid work as a distributor is evident when you watch him actually play as he’s solid in every different aspect of being a facilitator: drive-and-dish, transition, working pick-and-roll with the screener and simply being unselfish and finding dishing it off to open shooters while standing on the perimeter.

Among all of those different ways to facilitate, he does the most damage in the drive-and-dish due to regularly using off-ball screens or hesitation dribbles to get around perimeter defenders. Once he has that open passing lane, the Celtics two-way player can do damage while moving by tossing alley-oop lobs to bigs or passes to players on the perimeter.

While most facilitators that are skilled in this aspect throws simple chest passes to teammates stationed on the three-point line, Dozier is different in that he likes to combine those traditional feeds with throwing wicked bounce passes to shooters that are positioned on either the corner or wing.

Fun game.

Shannon was an absolute man among boys. I don't see any way that he's not a regular part of the rotation. He's big, strong, fast and relentless. He attacks on offense and looks to be a legit defender.

Dillingham looked really good. He was so focused on running the point that his timing was badly off on his shots. He'll find that balance.

Overall I thought it was very encouraging. The PG ability was the biggest question mark. 5 AST, 0 TO - and it could've been close to 10 assists if guys hit shots. He also showed some fire on defense.

Hifi is a bucket. I hope he sticks. On defense he plays MUCH bigger than his size. He's just aggressive in every aspect of the game.

Miller looked OK. He still might be a year away.

Minott is so bouncy and athletic, but he has no idea how to play offense. He might benefit from 3-5 years in Europe and then try again.

Nix was impressive. His offense has slowed down and he seems to be able to run a team a bit.

Clark does not look like an NBA player.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Timbrwolves 2024 Off-Season and Draft (7/15/2024 7:12:41 PM)

I’ve only watched highlights of the two games, but looking good. Shannon looks like he could contribute immediately. That’s an advantage to older players. Teams should look at that more often. Drafting one and dones is so much in fashion, and I get it, they can have great upside, but they can be busts too, and set a franchise back years.

And if they’re worried they can get more years out of drafting a 19 year old than a 23 year old, they shouldn’t be. Realistically, how often does a player play his whole career with one team anyway?

Clark's defense is elite (in Summer League). Nix and Hifi have been a really good combo....Nix plays quite a bit bigger than he is as does Shannon--they are on the bottom blocks at times rebounding at 6'4" and 6'6".

DL they have another 2 way for Hifi possibly?

Shannon is a man among boys in the summer league. He can finish in traffic and I have little question this will translate in the NBA. He also seems to be a decent defender, both on and off the ball.

Dillingham has the skills already to punish the opposition in the P&R. If the switching big isn't tight, Dillingham will consistently hit the 3. But his ability to finish at the rim in traffic is still in question. And his defense isn't good. I think it will improve, but it isn't good at all right now. Some of it is technique. Some of it is size. And some of it is awareness. Like a lot of young gifted offensive players, he's never had to play defense to see the court.

I really hope Minott has been instructed to show what he can do when he puts the ball on the floor. Because right now he doesn't have the handle to do it and I cringe when I see him try. I'm rooting for him, because I love the energy and he's still young, but this is his third year in the summer league and he isn't standing out as dominant in anything really.

Nix is a load. Plays with confidence. The Wolves could do worse than having him as a 3rd PG. I like what I've seen from Hifi, but wonder where the Wolves could stash him. Miller just looks uncomfortable to me.

I really wanna see more of Clark. I think it's too soon to say whether he's an NBA player after only two games and a very long layoff from a serious injury. If he wants to get a roster spot with anyone, he's gonna have to show he can hit the 3. If he can hit those at 33%, that and his defense will get him a spot somewhere on an NBA roster I think.
