The biggest dumb play of the second half?

Up by 8 and pooch kicking to allow a return..

This. Kick it through the back of the end zone and they win in regulation.

Was the wind blowing against him? It looked to me like he gave it all he had.

The Vikings received the kickoff to start the 3rd, so the wind would be at their backs in the 4th. It looked to me like it was designed short kick to force a return and eat clock. Unfortunately the Bears ate up more yardage than clock.

that was just stupid.. all game long.. touchback after touchback.. then, with an eight point lead you gotta over think it?

Come TF on..

If you are going to be “ kicking to force a return” then you damn sure better have your ST players ready and practice that crap repeatly, when the players are gassed, during the week..

Fn inexcusable coverage and shitty tackling.

I almost would have preferred that they HAD housed it..

Might have been a better way to get the last possession and win in regulation.

So we deferred, got the ball to start the 3rd AND got to choose the wind at their backs for the 4th. Are you sure it works that way?

The choice of goal to defend is determined at the opening toss of the coin..
Once we deferred, the bears made the choice of which end they wanted to defend/ receive.. it doesn’t change at halftime.
You choose and that is your choice for the game, the only time it changes is in overtime when you again, get a coin toss.

Todd M -> RE: WEEK 12: @ Bears 11-24-24 12:00PM CT (11/25/2024 12:25:35 PM)

So the Bears chose to not have the wind in the 2nd and 4th? Supposedly…

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: WEEK 12: @ Bears 11-24-24 12:00PM CT (11/25/2024 1:55:59 PM)

They chose to have the wind and the ball..

That’s on their team captain…

How hard do you think Williams thought about that? Or whoever was on the field for the flip?

You act like football players are strategic genius..

They most assuredly are not.

Most coaches will tell them which end to defend if they lose the toss etc.

Not sure if Eberflus didn't tell him, he forgot, or got confused...

I'm just going by the OT. We chose which way(right to left) we wanted to go and Romo kicked it out of the end zone. I'm guessing we had the wind.

Short kick was left to right.

We were up 11 when we kicked short kick.

I just read a story on the special teams gaffs. The kickoff was indeed supposed to be kicked out, but Romo didn't hit it square. According to the ST coach he "toed it". Metellus made the other big mistake. Ty Chandler got double blocked to the outside. Metellus was supposed to take on the blocker and maintain a two gap option. Instead, he jumpe to the inside gap and created a huge opeining on the outside, which the returner ran through and never looked back.

Mundt totally effed up the onside kick. The Vikings are instructed that when the kicker uses the "watermelon ball" technique", every player is supposed to go for the ball. Mundt ignored the ball and engaged in a block.

I'd like to give credit to Dallas Turner here as he ran the returner down....a kick returner close to full speed mind you.

Mundt screwed that one up to be sure. But I don't put the late game meltdown totally on him. Once again our secondary coverage units were leaving guys wide open to exploit and that put them in FG range. We needed tighter coverage. Don't know if that is CB limitations showing up or bad scheme for the situation or what...but they failed on that drive, when we needed them the most.

A good day for Special Teams went south in a hurry.

Good: Blocked FG, perfect on our FGs, recovered muffed punt.

Bad: Long KO return, onside muff, and almost a punt muff by Powell in OT
