Minnesota Vikings@Vikings

Adding more pieces.

The #Vikings have agreed to terms with DB Tavierre Thomas.

Tavierre Thomas

Thomas joins Minnesota ahead of his eighth NFL season, having first entered the league as an undrafted free agent with Cleveland in 2018.

He played in 45 games for the Browns from 2018-20 before spending three seasons with the Texans (2021-23) and appearing in 36 games. Thomas played in all 17 games for the Buccaneers in 2024.

The Detroit native, who turned 29 on Tuesday, has totaled 239 tackles, six tackles for loss, two QB hits, two interceptions, six passes defensed, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a sack in 98 career games (22 starts).

Thomas teamed with Greenard and Cashman in Houston and overlapped with Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in Cleveland in 2020. He has played 1,668 defensive snaps and 1,869 special teams snaps through his first seven seasons, including 388 in football's third phase for Tampa Bay in 2024.

No worries ... almost all news is

Not fake, but probably unlikely.

SeifertESPN talking Vikings QB situation and Aaron Rodgers:

"The Vikings have at least been entertaining the possibility internally of what it would look like to add Aaron Rodgers in to this QB room".

According to Dianna Russini, the Vikings are still evaluating all of their options at quarterback, including the possibility of signing Aaron Rodgers.

For his part, Russini says Rodgers is intrigued by the idea of playing in Minnesota.

Kwesi could seal a second contract if he nails the second wave of FAs.

Although to his possible detriment there is the tiny item called the draft.

Time for a FA GM and a Draft GM!

Just trading Ingram and Bradbury for 6th or 7th rounders would be nice even if it is from the Rick Spielman art of the deal.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2025 Vikings Free Agency (3/12/2025 4:45:27 PM)

Needs?

CB Overall. Blackmon (probably?), Murphy, Rodgers, Thomas (Special Teams value), Wright, McGlothern. Little to no proven performance.

WR Depth. 4 and 5 guys, maybe a #3 to surprise.
RB. Although there is always a 3rd trade for Akers [:-]
S Depth+. Metellus (gadget), Jackson, Ward.
OL Depth.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2025 Vikings Free Agency (3/12/2025 4:54:44 PM)

Not projecting anything but JJM being a rookie aside, it seems like the starting lineup hasn't been better - on paper - in 20 years. QB is of course key.

If only we had a shutdown CB....

I think he replaces Sherfield as a "Special Teams Ace".

They say CB Rodgers is very good at Man coverage. (which isn't a shutdown corner).
Like you have said maybe that is what there draft will be focused on?

I do think Harry is back for 1 more year.

Why not bring in Lance?

KOC might be able to get something out of all those physical talents.

Still bring in vet like Rudolph or Minshew to compete for #2 job.

Lance couldn't beat out Cooper Rush.

Factor in Mike McCarthy so that means nothing.

OTC has Byron Murphy's contract posted. Cap hits are 7, 21 and 23 each of the next 3 years.

https://overthecap.com/player/byron-murphy/7824

So 7, re-structure, re-structure

I think we have 1 or 2 more big moves in us. Considering the way they are pushing back cap hits, I think they are waiting for Alexander to be cut by the Packers. He will want good money.

Maybe?

21M next year is like 15th best for CBs. Depending on how he plays this year, he could play the contract out.

He'll probably have to sign a 1 year "prove it" deal.

2021: 4 Games
2022: 16 Games
2023: 7 Games
2024: 7 Games

Alec Lewis@alec_lewis

The #Vikings and safety Harrison Smith have re-worked his contract for 2025, per source. The legend will be back.

David Levine -> RE: 2025 Vikings Free Agency (3/12/2025 8:20:59 PM)

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the deal is a one-year deal worth $10.25 million and can be worth up to $14 million with incentives.

The team needed to get a new deal done before the third day of the new league year on Friday in order to prevent Smith’s entire 2026 salary - which would have been well north of $20 million - from becoming fully guaranteed.

Yeah. A very thorough physical would be in order.

So, did we gain cap space by doing this? Or just prevented a huge hit? Or both?

No, it wouldn't. I hate that pissy diva a lot more than I hate the Packers. If they sign Roger's, I hope they lose every game.

The well north of $20M figure is what Spotrac has. They seem to put massive weird $ in void year salaries (saw a player a couple of months ago with a $99M figure!).

Like does anyone think $26M in void money would be due if he was cut?

OverTheCap has a more normal $6.6M cap hit for 2025 and $4.2M in void cap from 2026-28. We'll see what the new numbers are and whether any void money is wrapped into the $10.25M when they are published. Based on Kwesi's M.O., there will still be at least the same $4.2M in void money.

I'm going with OverTheCap. I don't think we gained any cap; at best it's a wash. And Smith got a bump in pay compared to last year.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: 2025 Vikings Free Agency (3/13/2025 7:58:55 AM)

As far as playing time goes, looks like RB is the biggest void if one believes they need to reduce the workload on Jones.

Maybe bring in Spielman for a cameo appearance to maneuver for a 4th rounder and pick a Mewelde Moore or Onterrio Whizzinator Smith type.

As much as I hated the Favre move this would piss me off to the moon. Why bring in that asshole when you've worked so hard to create a "culture" that they brag of? Makes zero sense.
