I am so disgusted with the news about the team NOT being sold. Maybe if they have ZERO attendance next year they might figure it out, but I doubt they will get the hint. Who should be my new team until this shit show if straightened out?

The Pohlads took on two new partners. My guess is the money from those transactions will go a long way toward retiring the debt.

Perhaps.

But they are still among the richest owners. why can't they handle the debt without adding investors?

They keep treating this like one of their other businesses. sports franchises don't work that way.

This team will toil in mediocrity as long as they hold a controlling interest in the team. As long as a Pohlad owns the team we may as well never expect more than the occasional winning of a weak division and early playoff exits.

While they’re bringing in new investors to presumably add some more cash to the business, there is nothing in the history of Pohlad family ownership that suggests that money will be invested into the team rather than pocketed by greedy billionaires.

No doubt.

The Twins have never figured out that while this is a good sports market, it definitely is bandwagonish when it comes to baseball. Give us a good product and we’ll turn out in droves. Put a lackluster product on the field and we’ve got better things to do in Minnesota in the summer.

They are totally tone deaf to messaging the fans. Take two years ago. After years of futility they finally make a little splash in the playoffs, fans are excited, goodwill is peaking. And they immediately respond by cutting payroll.

Now this announcement of a failed sale attempt after gutting half the team is just another sad chapter in how to shoot yourself in the foot. Not one dime of minority owner infused cash will reach the field. History shows that. They’ll tout their now restocked farm system as hope for the future. (Oh, boy, that’ll sell tickets!). A few of them will make their way to be productive major leaguers…and will be dealt at the trading deadline for more prospects.

So the real reason in November of 2023 to announce they were cutting payroll was.....? It is hard to understand a family built on banking sense that now has a $420 something loan against its best business that they need to succeed but take a leg out from under it after its most successful and probably profitable season in 2023 and expect a different outcome?

They don't understand that owning a sports franchise is not like running a bank. You have to commit to winning. Especially in a market like this where there are so many alternatives to spend your entertainment dollars. People don't want to come and see a piss poor team. They wont spend their money on the Twins if the Twins are going to suck. And slashing payroll like they did after a somewhat successful season pissed a lot of fans off. There was excitement for the team even after the playoff exit in '23. Then the ownership pulled the rug out from under the team and the fans.

Hate the Yankees, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies all you want....they are committed to winning it all. they put a team on the field that can win a championship every year and the fans come, watch and listen in droves...when that happens you make more money, it's a simple as that. The Pohlads think you can run the team like a bank and it just doesn't work that way.

I don't mind paying money to see a bad team, as long as the young players have a bright future. And that's what we have now. And it will only get better when more players from our #2 ranked (in all of MLB) farm system get to Target Field! Plus many of the visiting teams have great MLB players. More room for me to spread out and be comfortable while the bandwagoners stay away.

It isn't going to happen though. Example is the Timberwolves. Players really didn't change and the coach didn't change. They spent the money were it was needed top down.

Twins.....never spend money in the FO and get the cheapest Asst coaches that move up or take higher paying jobs within a year or two. Rocco and Falvey have the bare minimum staff $$$ wise.

Falvey did make a couple of questionable moves but when you are a pitcher and 2 RH bats short the last few years going into the season and expect a better outcome than the collapse that did happen. It just wasn't a surprise.

Injuries happen and we didn't have the depth before needing the bats and pitching. It has been the same in 23,24,and 25 and has zero to do with Salary Cap.

The only thing that will help is getting some minority owners like Lore/Arod that came in and had a 3 year plan that Taylor signed off on.

There's nothing wrong with rebuilding occasionally and nurturing young players with bright futures. But at some point you have to actually win, and not repeat the same cycle over and over of dumping the talent as soon as they reach peak value and starting over with a new crop.

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (8/15/2025 1:19:06 PM)

Get used to close losses like last night. Earlier in the season if a game was close in late innings I liked our chances, since we had a decent bullpen. One of the team's strengths. The we traded them all away.

Now when games are close, I feel like a loss is inevitable.

Loss was on the offense and Rocco.

As home team, if you hold away team scoreless in 10th, you should win.

On offense, our players need some new voices. Royce looks lost. As do others.

So, will we have to wait until September expanded roster to see Abel and Bradley?

Also, I should be watching Gasper play in Fargo in the Independent League. Why are we wasting time seeing if he can actually play?

Some enterprising individual needs to sell those bags you put over your head outside the stadium.

Bradley has been struggling even in AAA.
Abel there isn't a good reason.

TJSweens -> RE: Twins 2025 Game Day (8/18/2025 8:36:25 AM)

The official line on Abel is to tweak his command in AAA before bringing him up. They want to cut down on his walks. He walked 3.2 per 9 with Philly and 3.5 with St. Paul. Doesn't seem to be working.

OK, I agree with your observation now.

There's nothing to agree or disagree with. I stated why the Twins say Abel is in AAA. and provided the numbers. FWIW, his walk numbers are way down from previous years.

Personally, I think this about service time and wanting to improve his control is convenient excuse to keep Abel in AAA.

It's actually in an independent league. The one the Saints used to be in. He pitches for the Chicago Dogs.
