It was a fun game to watch, and I'll bet Tarasenko had fun drubbing his former team.

The Wild start the season with a 5-0 win.

Gus with a shut out
1st line: Kaprizov 3 assists, Boldy 1 goal and 2 assists, Rossi 1 goal 1 assist

Hartman with 2 goals

Ek with a goal

Our centers also took 56% of the face offs.

Sturm out and JEE had a terrible night at the dots. Bodes well. What doesn't? Liam O on the 4th and not a single shot on net. He may have to be moved because you can't send him back down. His confidence has to be shot. I'm not giving up since it's just 1 game but it's something to watch.

From what I read, Ohgren went backwards during training camp. Yurov has progressed, but is still adjusting to the smaller ice sheet. They moved him off of center. The hockey writers think wing was always his natural position. Strange that they were saying how well he meshed with JEE and Tarasenko. Suddenly he was in the press box for game 1.

As usual Hynes went with his vets instead of giving the young guys a chance. I know....let's put our rookies on the 4th line and limit their ice time due to special teams. They didn't get any regular shifts until the last 10 minutes of the game when the fans were leaving the arena... I really wonder how they expect the rookies to progress when Hynes puts them in positiont to fail instead of giving them a real shot to get better.

Ten players age 24 and younger were in Thursday’s lineup, including inexperienced players such as David Jiricek, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren and Hunter Haight, who was making his NHL debut. Add in Yurov and we can start building for the future now. We need a couple of them to step up enough to push Johansson to the press box and Hinostroza to Iowa.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/12/2025 6:35:09 AM)

Last night was a tough one to watch. I had a hard time deciding who was more brutal, Gus of Middleton. The calm, in position Gus from a couple of days ago just wasn't right from the start. Could open up the door for Wallstedt to show he's ready to be the guy or it could be the sign of a long season. I just hope this isn't going to be another year like last year where we were better on the road than at home.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/12/2025 1:39:04 PM)

Yeap. This might be a tough year with that D. When you score 9 goals in 2 games and 1-1, that says something. We gave the Jets a lot scratch for Jiri and he sits in the press box? [:-]

We really miss Brodin......What I have seen after 2 games from Spurgeon worry me.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/14/2025 9:58:24 AM)

Up 3-0 (thanks solely to LA taking dumb penalties. We were on the PP pretty much the whole 1st) and still have to sneak it out in the shootout is not great. I love the offensive upside of ZB but he's going to be massive growing pain on D this year. We'll have to stay patient. Jiri sits again. I misspoke and said "Jets" when I meant Jackets but my point stands. We gave up a haul to get him and now we just put him in the box? Makes no sense.

JW was solid/good at times but also let in a couple of [:o]'s.

Last note. We should try scoring some while it's 5 on 5. I'm not sure they've been told but those count too.

Turtling the whole 2nd period and early part of the third when we have a big lead has to stop.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/15/2025 9:50:56 AM)

We always struggle in Dallas and the first 2 periods last night were no exception. We looked better in the 3rd but I'm sure they let off the gas a bit.

Very good on the power play but can't score a 5 on 5.

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/15/2025 10:46:25 AM)

Dallas is bigger, faster and younger. The Wild are still medium sized, medium speed and a year older.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/18/2025 8:02:40 AM)

A few more outings like last night and things could spiral into a lost season very quickly. All of our 30-somethings are clearly losing a step but they all have NMC contracts so they can't be traded, and our young guys aren't ready to pick up the slack. Of course Hynes and Billy need to actually play them to find out if they can or not.
Why is it other teams can find big and fast guys in the draft and we always end up with smirfs and average size guys that can't handle the physicality of the NHL?

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/18/2025 8:44:37 AM)

The problem is that nobody from Leo to Guerin to Hynes is willing to play the long game. They are unwilling to see if the young guys can do what they were drafted to do. So David Jiricek, Carson Lambos and Hunter Haight get sent to Iowa, while Zack Bogosian, Daemon Hunt and Ben Jones are on the roster. Liam Ohgren and Danila Yurov rotate between the press box and 4th line while Marcus Johansson, Marcus Foligno and Vlad Tarasenko skate top 6 and middle six positions.

Are Ohgren, Yurov, Haight, Jiricek and Lambos the guys? I don't know. What I do know for an absolute fact is that Bogosian, Hunt, Jones, Johansson and Foligno are not.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/18/2025 9:16:28 AM)

We are the anti-Buffalo team. Their draft picks get pushed into the league too soon and kill their confidence and ours get mired in the AHL so long they get tired of bus rides and lose theirs.
I would just as soon bottom out this season and get another top draft pick for a new regime to use. I know that is dreaming, but it appears it is time for a change at the top or Kirill's prime will be wasted along with lots of money.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/18/2025 10:39:41 AM)

Yeap, you guys are on it. Don't need to repeat but the thing that really chaps my ass is things like "MoJo is sucking on the 3rd line so lets move him to the 2nd to get him going!" [X(]

I heard the thinking is moving MoJo up will help our new member of the over-the-hill gang, Tarasenko, get his game going.
Message to Billy and Hynes, Tarasenko's game got up and went a few years ago and won't be coming back!

Hynes is most comfortable playing one rookie at a time apparently....I don't get it.

Wild win 3-1 with Yurov scoring the winner.

Kirill's prime? I am now getting worried about Boldy's prime.

stfrank -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/23/2025 8:50:24 AM)

I didn't see the game last night, but from all accounts it wasn't pretty. The more games we play against contenders the more we show we don't have the talent it takes to compete with the best. We are just plain slower, smaller, and older than most teams and have to play a perfect game to stick with most of them. Time for Guerin to move some old guys for some younger players. Oh that's right.........he can't due to NTC's he put in all of their contracts! [X(]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/23/2025 9:48:56 AM)

Sadly, I did [:-]

We were terrible for most of the game. We couldn't get out of zone and when we finally did, we just flipped it out to neutral ice and they regrouped and came right back at us. You can't rely on the PP going 60-70% to win games. That was a quirky anomaly to start the year.

I can't believe I'm saying this so early in the year but this team just sucks. We are constructed of:

1 superstar
1 semi-star
a couple exciting young dmen who still need to learn a lot
20 JAG's that all have NTC's

TJSweens -> RE: Wild 2025-26 Season (10/24/2025 10:46:20 AM)

The Kaprizov contract underscores how out of his depth Guerin is. He didn't just blink, he straight up panicked. When a couple of players who are better at a more premium position sign for millions less, you know Billy caved at a seismic level.
