The Oduya move kills us even more.
He has always been a thorn in our side.

4-0 Hawks. I thought for sure they were going to take a beating from the penguins tonight. So far, so good.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (3/29/2017 9:12:50 PM)

Ha! It has something to do with your "dislike" of Sid the kid, right? The pens are not the easiest team to like, that's for sure.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (3/30/2017 12:47:21 PM)

Just cannot bring myself to like him.
You are correct sir

Scary stuff going on with Kyle Okposo ... hospitalized, trying to diagnose an undisclosed illness

Not piling on, but I begged for him last off-season and am glad we passed.
Staal was the move to make.
Great call by Fletch at this point.

Mr. Ed -> RE: General NHL Talk (4/6/2017 6:48:14 AM)

Okposo, 28, has been sick since March 28, but coach Dan Bylsma had nothing else to announce Wednesday.

"It's a difficult thing for him to be dealing with now in this situation," Bylsma said. "Very, as a coach and a person, concerned for him and his situation."

According to the news reports, Okposo was in the Neuro Surgical ICU at Buffalo General Hospital, the medical ward that deals with neurological injuries such as strokes, concussions, trauma and tumors.

"Kyle continues to be under the care of our doctors as he deals with symptoms from an illness," the Sabres said in a statement released Wednesday. "Out of respect to Kyle and his family, we will have no further comment at this time."

Okposo has 19 goals and 26 assists in 65 games in his first season in Buffalo. He played the previous nine seasons with the New York Islanders.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL Talk (4/6/2017 7:31:41 AM)

Yeah, not good with the vail of secrecy going on. That's never good.

Amazing what desperation can add to some teams
TB is on an incredible roll since putting themselves in the position where they HAVE to win.
Love it when teams bail on their season at the trade deadline, the guys still there either quit, or get pissed off.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Bryan Bickell will retire after 10 seasons in the NHL after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November.

He announced his decision Saturday prior to Carolina's home game against the St. Louis Blues at PNC Arena.

"I've made the decision with my family that I'm going to call it quits, so it's just these last two games," he said, per NHL.com's Kurt Dusterberg.

Bickell sat out five months this season while learning to control his symptoms. He returned to the Hurricanes lineup April 4.

Sad I never got to a game at the Joe in Detroit.
That building was the mecca for big games for so many years ...
Sounds like we are planning a Nashville game next year, excited about that.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (4/9/2017 9:55:34 PM)

Lindy Ruff will not return to Dallas.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL Talk (4/10/2017 8:23:59 PM)

Good news is ... we've slipped off the radar.

Who is your Stanley Cup favorite and why?

Scott Burnside: This the Washington Capitals' time. Superstar winger Alex Ovechkin saved some goals for the playoffs. Star defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk has been a tremendous addition and the power play is going to be devastating. The Caps are four lines deep -- and all four lines can bite you. And, oh yeah, they have one of the top three or four goalies in the world in Braden Holtby. And at the end of the day, there is this: If not now, when?

Corey Pronman: Has to be Washington: stacked lineup from top to bottom. The Caps have all the elements you'd want to make a deep playoff run. Will they? Well, the playoffs are volatile and cruel, and one hot goalie for a couple of days can ruin your Cup hopes, as some Caps fans might remember all too well. But other than the San Jose Sharks, I don't see anyone else being close to matching up.

Rob Vollman: It's hard to find a statistical category in which the Capitals aren't among the league leaders. In the past, there were always a few concerns and/or a stronger alternative for the Stanley Cup, but that's not the case this season. This team is stacked from top to bottom, is without obvious flaws and is firing on all cylinders. The Cup is theirs to lose.

Craig Custance: Fine. I'll be different. I wanted to pick the Capitals, but I see that Team ESPN is all over Washington. And if we've learned anything, a consensus is probably not right. So give me the Chicago Blackhawks. Give me a team that is coming off a rare long summer. Give me a team that knows how to close out a series, that knows how to win the biggest games. We still don't know that about the Capitals. Everything appears to be breaking the Capitals' way in the East, but if the Blackhawks are waiting for them in the West, I'll take that edge in experience.

Pierre LeBrun: Although I think Washington has never been more poised to finally break through after all these years, I'm also going to take the Blackhawks. Most important to me is how much depth that Hawks blue line has, the most in years and not as top-heavy as it has been in the past. The Blackhawks had a longer-than-normal offseason, courtesy of a first-round exit, but it shows in their legs this season. They're re-energized and poised for another long run. And perhaps a Cup at the end of it for the fourth time in eight years.

Joe McDonald: I would like to say the Pittsburgh Penguins will be the first team since the 1997 Detroit Red Wings to win back-to-back championships, but without star defenseman Kris Letang, who's done for the season because of neck surgery, I can't see the reigning Stanley Cup champions defending their title. So I'm going with the Columbus Blue Jackets to win it all. Despite a recent six-game losing skid before the Blue Jackets defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in game No. 82, Columbus has the potential for a deep run simply because of goalie Sergei Bobrovsky.
