Scoreless after two!

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (5/27/2011 9:44:10 PM)

Crap
My season of caring is over.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (5/28/2011 12:09:52 AM)

Rolo went out like a champ. Helluva game, grandpa. He did all he could.
Loved how Stamkos gutted it out. He's a hockey player.
Great series, unfortunately, my team didn't win.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: General NHL (5/28/2011 9:21:43 AM)

No penalties. Was that because the players were so careful or because the refs were afraid to call one. (or both)

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (5/28/2011 9:46:04 PM)

Fair question Bruce but really, IMO, the refs let them play. It was a series between 2 teams that have no history together, or hatred. The post game love fest was nice but creepy at the same time for this part of hockey. Normally there is utter hatred for a franchise, this deep in the playoffs, that goes 7.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (5/31/2011 8:25:40 PM)

I came up with Winnipegs new name ...
the
RetroJets.

Mr. Ed -> RE: General NHL (6/1/2011 6:15:09 AM)

The finals start tonight. This could be the first time in a long time,if ever, the NBA season is done before the NHL.Bizarre.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (6/1/2011 9:51:55 AM)

Hockey is dead to me until the start of training camp.   Russo had a blog today talking about Wheeler and I hadn't even thought about it.  What a whirlwind couple of months for that kid.  Traded from Boston to Atlanta.  Basically being forced out of a cup contending team to a dormant loser.  Then having to uproot to a new country and back to the frigid north.

BTW- leave it to Bettman.  He can't make it work in a metro area that has a population of 5 million and lets them uproot to a metro area of 750,000.  BTW- both areas have/had already lost a team before.  Does this guy not see history repeating??  There HAS to be other options.   Namely, contraction.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/1/2011 6:06:36 PM)

Guess I need to make my Finals Prediction ...

Pricks will win this series 4-games-to-something.
Thats all I got.

[:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (6/2/2011 9:39:17 AM)

I actually watched it and found myself rooting for Boston.  I needed a crying game shower at the end. [:o]

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/2/2011 9:57:44 AM)

Gee ...... cheap shots, pussy actions, low hits, biting, hair-pulling. ...... I'm shocked, I tell ya, shocked......
Welcome to Vancouver hockey.
Jackasses.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/4/2011 3:29:26 PM)

Welcome back. 'Peg.

I thought you were talking about Laker BBall.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/5/2011 12:08:27 PM)

Ok, drew me back in .. had to watch some ... pretty good stuff.
They are evenly matched, I'll give em that.
Not in talent, but Boston does make up for the lack of it with grit and system.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/5/2011 12:19:01 PM)

Btw .. typical that the Biter gets 3 pts on the night ... most guys would have been watching while suspended.
Oh well ... don't go crying Bettman ... when worse crap happens.
Timmy Thomas finally pays for wandering. Gotta stay in the net, dude.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (6/6/2011 10:01:56 AM)

I was in a bar watching it in Georgetown.  True story.  We wandered in having never been to this particular one.  It was either a Boston based bar all together or they made it one that night.  Nothing but Bruin fans, everywhere.

When Thomas made that boneheaded move it was F-bombs and "you sucks" all around.  It would have been marvelous if it hadn't have meant a 2-1 series lead for those other guys.

Corleone -> RE: General NHL (6/6/2011 3:28:48 PM)

Pretty much puts the finger on our Nucklehead sentiments.

BOSTON -- The Bite Saw Around the World continues to be a topic of discussion during the Stanley Cup finals series between the Boston Bruins and the Vancouver Canucks and it has Bruins coach Claude Julien questioning the sportsmanship of some Canucks players.

The Canucks' Alex Burrows became the center of controversy in Game 1 when he clearly bit the finger of Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron during a scrum at the end of the first period.

The NHL decided not to discipline Burrows, who scored a pair of goals, including the game-winning tally only 11 seconds into overtime, in Game 2.

During a scrum in the third period of Game 2, the Canucks' Maxim Lapierre was taunting Bergeron by sticking his finger in his face.

Julien was asked Monday morning about Lapierre's gesture toward Bergeron.

"I can't really talk about their team," Julien said.

Then he did.

"I don't handle those players. I don't deal with those players on a one-on-one basis. It's not up to me to comment on it and if that's acceptable for them, so be it," he said. "Certainly wouldn't be acceptable on our end of it. There's not much I can say about that.

"The NHL ruled on something and (the Canucks) decided to make a mockery of it. It's totally up to them. If that's their way of handling things, so be it. We can't waste our time on that sort of stuff. We have to focus on what we have to do. Last time I looked, we're down two games to none, and all our energy has to go towards that."

Julien said he wouldn't allow Lapierre's behavior on his team. Lapierre had several dustups with the Bruins when he was with the Montreal Canadiens, saying he had been raised to hate Boston.

"It doesn't surprise me, that's how he is," Julien said of Lapierre. "There might be a reason he's played for the number of teams he's played for already."

When asked about Julien's comments in both English and French after Monday's morning skate, Lapierre declined to comment.

During the same scrum, Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid dragged Burrows out of a pile of players on top of Boston goaltender Tim Thomas. McQuaid and Burrows were nose-to-nose and the two were shown chirping at one another on the video board.

It was quite clear McQuaid said to him: "You gonna bite me?"

Also during that scrum, Lapierre was taunting Bergeron by sticking his finger in his face.

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said he didn't see what had happened.

"If that happened in between whistles, I didn't see it," he said. "I focus on the play that's going on between whistles, so I can't really comment on that."

Other Canucks stood behind Burrows and Lapierre, refusing to condemn their behavior as anything abnormal, particularly in the contentious postseason.

"If they put a lot of focus on that, that's good for us," Canucks captain Henrik Sedin said Monday. "If they're not thinking about hockey and thinking about that instead, that's up to them, but we're focused on hockey. A lot of things happen after the whistles. Boston does a lot of things, too."

The Canucks lead the series, 2-0. Game 3 is Monday night.

Joe McDonald covers the Bruins for ESPNBoston.com. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Corleone -> RE: General NHL (6/7/2011 10:11:26 AM)

If anyone were to ask why I/we hate both of these teams, throw in a tape of game 3 and you'll have your answer.
Gutless, classless, thug hockey. To have that kind of garbage in the Stanley Cup Finals is embarrassing to me as a fan of the game.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (6/7/2011 11:16:53 AM)

It's a real surprise that Alain Vigneault would look right in to the cameras after the game and say it was a clean hit [&o]

Perfectly said.
The worst showcase for a changing game.
These two teams are not how we all want the game to come across to people.
That blind-side was as brutal as it gets... and like Jeff said, the douche looks right at the camera and says he's not sure if anything was wrong with it.
Awful hit. No way he should play again this series. And neither should Burrows.
They simply don't "get it" in Vancouver. Thats not "instigating" or "playing hard" ... what they do .... its cheap, ugly, and injury-causing.
We all know it, because we see it all year with them.

TJSweens -> RE: General NHL (6/7/2011 12:16:18 PM)

In a rare display of balls the NHL suspended Rome for 4 games, which will cover the rest of the finals.

SoMnFan -> RE: General NHL (6/8/2011 9:46:54 AM)

Shananhan must have already took over the disciplinary job.
Bettmann would have said ... "what, are we still playing?" [X(]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (6/9/2011 9:51:25 AM)

I've gotta admit.  I'm getting a real kick out of the Bruins just pounding on the Nucks.  I hate Boston but somehow these last 2 games have been a blast [&:]
