Most of those old teams have enjoyed plenty of wins in their history. I'm much more likely to always pick the underdog, the team that hasn't hoisted the trophy - and if the finals are between teams that have all been winners I typically go for the one that has won it the fewest times.

That's a pretty cool way to look at it.

In my best Michael Caine .......

All right people. Don't play the laughing boys (and girl). There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures (or favorite teams...) and the BlackHawks.

Secord and Savard. Even if they are much older than me.

One would still kick my ass and the other I still wouldn't be able to catch. Still, I would punch both in the face and live with it.

Exactly
Must be what I can't give up on.
That hatred was deeper than I thought it was.
But Goddamn, those games were intense.
There was a very good chance that at ANY time, a major, someone-could-die, brouhaha could happen.
Never been in any building since, with that kind of tension.

Ah, the good old days...I remember being at the old Chicago Stadium to watch the North Stars play the Hawks. People were hanging Dino the Dinouaur teddy bears in effigy and screaming horrible things about Ciccerelli. Horrible things. I pointed out that Dino was the best player on the ice that night (because I call things like I see things, and he clearly was the best player that evening). I was attacked by a drunk on my way to the bathroom because he disagreed with my opinion. Those were some crazy crowds in that old barn.

Good old days [:-]

It was fun, even though the place was a dump. We could not watch the games on television because the Wirtz family would not permit television contracts, with the exception of something called "HawkVision". The only way to see a game was to go to the Stadium. It brought out all kinds of fans.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/29/2015 11:47:20 AM)

Ah yes, back in the days of sitting in the nose bleed seats at the Met Center chanting Secord Sucks for the whole game and not being able to talk on the way home because you lost your voice. Some great times for sure. [:D]

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (5/29/2015 12:04:59 PM)

Except for the fact that we didn't win many, did we? I was young but remember you guys kicking our asses frequently.

I want the Lightning to win it all. Not because I like them but I can never root for the Hawks, hate the Rangers and the Ducks.

I like the Ning best of the remaining 4 as well.

That seems to be the sentiment for most of us on here. It does suck however that the teams from Florida can win a cup and we still don't have one in the state of hockey.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/29/2015 9:41:48 PM)

Rangers really missing McDonagh's usual game tonight. Too bad he couldn't be there at full strength for game 7.

Only to find out after the game he was playing on a broken foot. No wonder he didn't look himself out there.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:57:56 AM)

Got one result need another tonight and the NHL will loose it's collective shit.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 9:37:24 AM)

The powers that be up in Toronto just may lose it if they end up with a Florida vs California final that's for sure.

That's why it would be great! Although, not good for the overall health of the game.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 11:57:43 AM)

Anything that gives Bettman heartburn works for me.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 7:25:42 PM)

Oh, boy. 1-0 Hawks. Toews with the cleanup goal. Keep it up, boys!

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 7:45:05 PM)

Not a good start for the Ducks.....

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:16:49 PM)

Well at least one of Toronto's teams will be playing for the cup it looks like. If this holds up and Chicago wins I am going to seriously consider not watching any more hockey this season.....

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:27:42 PM)

Leads disappear quickly in this series, but it looks pretty good for the Hawks right now. Anything can happen, though. A lot of the anaheim mojo relies on momentum. If they score a quick goal, they can crank up pressure. The Hawks are tough to beat when their defense is playing as good as they are tonight.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:41:59 PM)

4-0. The Hawks are in a pretty good spot right now.

stfrank -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:42:02 PM)

I don't like that call at all. Sure looked like he was directing the puck with his skate. Now I just want the Ducks to go out and physically pound the hell out of the Hawks.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:44:39 PM)

Doc said that Bickell has only played one shift in the second period. Good news. He's been terrible this series, and for most of the season.

joejitsu -> RE: General NHL (5/30/2015 8:52:27 PM)

Crawford is looking very sharp this game.
