Per the Gophersports.com press release:

University of Minnesota senior forward Shae Kelley was named the Big Ten Women's Basketball Player of the Week after averaging a double-double with 24.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game in the Gophers' pair of victories over Ohio State and Indiana last week.

It is the second player of the week honor for Kelley as a Gopher and the team's fourth this season.

Kelley posted a .594 (19-32) field goal percentage and a .909 (10-11) free throw percentage, while adding averages of 7.0 offensive rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks per game on the week.

She started off the week with a career night at Ohio State on Thursday, posting career-bests with 29 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks in helping Minnesota pick up its third win all-time in Columbus with her sixth double-double of the year.

Kelley continued to impress in the Gophers' home win against the Hoosiers Sunday afternoon, as she paced the team with 19 points, 13 rebounds and four steals for her second-straight double-double and seventh of the season.

Maryland's Brionna Jones, Michigan's Shannon Smith and Nebraska's Natalie Romeo were named to the honor roll, while Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

The Maroon and Gold is set to host Purdue Thursday night at 7 p.m.

Tough OT loss last night when Amanda went 11-11

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/23/2015 11:15:49 AM)

Terrible loss. Zahui B. fouled out in 27 minutes and Carly Wagner fouled out in 23 minutes. They simply don't have the depth to overcome foul trouble. The entire bench produced 8 points in 47 minutes.

Banham announces she's coming back next year.

The women fall to Rutgers tonight. Hard to win when Amanda is the only consistent player

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/26/2015 5:13:42 AM)

That's two straight very winnable games they have dropped. It looks like their momentum has come to a stop.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (1/29/2015 10:15:51 AM)

The team bounced back with a win last night. I Read in the paper this morning that 3 players have left the team since Dec. have they seen the writing on the wall?

They aren't good enough to play or they don't fit? I didn't know 3 players left.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/6/2015 10:34:34 AM)

I'm starting to think that it was a bad hire at coach for the ladies. They lost again to team that had lost 8 in a row. The Gophers played zone for 99% of the time and Illini kept hitting the 3's. You'd think they would change it up so they wouldn't get so comfortable. They also have to figure out how to rebound. Illinois kept 2nd and 3rd tries. I don't know the final count, but last I hear they had 21 offensive rebounds. Just terrible

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/6/2015 10:51:37 AM)

Illinois lost 8 in a row because their star player was out who has now returned. They were pretty good before that. Stollings is doing a good job. She can't really play much in the line of man defense because she has no bench. She pretty much has to run an iron 5 out there every game. The zone allows them to conserve some energy. Don't forget she lost the preseason Big Ten player of the year at the start of the season. She has a couple of good recruits coming in next year to go with the return of Banham. Evaluate her then when she has a full roster.

Yes and Carly is becoming comfortable in the college system.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/9/2015 4:12:55 PM)

Wagner is going to be the key to the rest of the season and any post season. She needs to assert her offense on a consistent basis, if there is any hope of getting the pressure off of Zahui and Kelley. The other thing that has to get fixed is Mullaney's habit of turning the ball over. She can pile up double digit assists on a regular basis, but she will turn it over half a dozen times on a nightly basis. Last night she had 7 asst and 6 TO. You can get away with that against a team like Michigan at home, but not against the better competition in the league.

Amanda Zahui just set the all time career blocks record for Gophers Women's Basketball. As a SOPHOMORE.

She now has 94 blocks on the season and is just 12 blocks away from setting the single season record of 105 that she set last year.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 12:21:54 PM)

Huge game for the women's team tonight against #13 Iowa at home. A win would all but guarantee an NCAA birth. They are back on a positive trend. Three game winning streak, Kelley is the Big Ten player of the week, Carly Wagner is the Big Ten freshman of the week for the second week in a row and Amanda Zahui B. is in the late season top 20 for the Wooden Award.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 3:08:01 PM)

And on TV tonight, 8 PM BTN

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 10:19:06 PM)

Big win over the #13 Hawkeyes. Zahui B. with 39 points and a Big Ten record 29 rebounds.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 10:33:00 PM)

Add 2 assists, 2 steals, 4 blocks and only 1 foul in 39 minutes.

She had 7 offensive rebounds and 22 defensive boards.

Iowa had 11 and 24 as a team...

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 10:46:16 PM)

And she's only a sophomore.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/17/2015 11:31:15 PM)

Quite a night ... and she surpassed 1,000 career points tonight, as well.
Her 19th double-double of the season ...
It goes on and on.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Basketball (Womens) (2/18/2015 7:25:00 AM)

Damn shame we had 3 of the top 20 players in the nation until Banham got hurt....Maybe Kelly and Zahui B. can still get us there....
