Great stuff Jeff
I love that we have given the right players the opportunity to play for this team
In the past a couple of the most important guys we currently have ... would not have been given scholarships
They play the modern game, the smart game, its not about looks and flash, its about knowing the game better than the opponent
The low cycle game is so fun to watch when you have smart personnel running it
We have a roster full of rink rats who get the game. They send pucks to areas where their teammates will be.
They have a feel for each other and its already evident.
Your Ranta comment made me chuckle, said the same thing to my kids. Last year he was King Kong, now he's a grunt.
Trust me, I spent 4 years trying to figure out how to stop Nelson from scoring. Right now he is a fantastic fourth line long-reach extra D-man playing forward. To have that kind of depth is amazing. because trust me, if that kid pops open in front with a chance to win you a title, he's scoring it. Mike Koster is Spurgeon. Its about puck movement and simple plays, and he makes those like a senior already. Faber is great, and Lacombe is like some superstar no one has talked about.
Meyers is another, he has the best traits of Pohl, Guyer, etc .... controls the play
I'd say the glaring lack to me is only a Potulny type. A guy who will jack up a teammate who doesn't go all out to get a puck deep.
Maybe we have one, he just hasn't stepped up yet. LaFontaine is always going to be the key.
Weird how the goalie position was always our worst feature, in our best years. He has settled in nicely so far.
Like we are all saying, the first time we really face some adversity, we will know more about how far we can go.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/25/2020 10:39:51 AM)

Agree with all man. IMHO we did face a little adversity last night. Not like what you are insinuating though. 4 in 6 and facing a pretty good team and we shut them out. And not by luck. They had a clean break away and some good scoring chances.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/25/2020 10:41:57 AM)

BTW - speaking of breakaways. GOD! Nothing pisses me off more than having a 2 on 0 break away and shooting it straight on goal (and missing the net BTW). Whether you pass or not make that sumuma-bitch move off his spot [X(]

A quick 1-2 pass back and forth and that's an easy tap in.

So true
Should never end like it did
Walker turning away had me screaming, a goalie can't stop two guys (at this level) , make him move
That's what i meant by taking those opps seriously
Will be the difference in most games, soon.

Should get some questions answered the next couple nights.

Thursday /Friday this week? [&:]

Gophers hockey loses out on Jake Ratzlaff to the Wisconsin Badgers. He had committed to the Gophers when he was in 7th grade.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/30/2020 3:56:01 PM)

He quit hockey when he didn't get drafted. He's playing football at Wisconsin.

Phil Riewer -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/30/2020 5:16:57 PM)

Gophers will be missing 3 defenseman due to Team US tryouts.

Michigan will be missing five players for the series against the Gophers because of U.S. junior training camp: defenseman Cam York and forwards John Beecher, Matthew Beniers, Thomas Bordeleau and Brendon Brisson.

Yes it is.

Rosemount linebacker Jake Ratzlaff committed to the Wisconsin Badgers football program’s 2021 recruiting class on Monday.

The former Gophers hockey pledge was not selected in the NHL draft and decided before his senior football season that he was going to hang up his skates.

“I knew then that I love football so much and have a passion for it,” Ratzlaff said. “I’m just going to go with football and we are going to give it everything I’ve got.”

...and stand under the scoreboard until it falls in you. I wish nothing, but ill, to any Minnesota kid that goes to Wisconsin or the cultural backwash that is Iowa.

Yeah, what a shame that football kids want to go to programs that win consistently and produce NFL players consistently. [:D]

Tell you what. I'm sure there is room. Why don't you keep him company under that scoreboard.

U can't keep many homegrown hoopers or footballers home. Pretty sad state of the union.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (12/1/2020 1:50:06 PM)

You'd think a looming scoreboard crushing would get a few to change their minds .... [:D]

Is there any scoreboards left....the MBB team caused plenty to fall.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (12/3/2020 7:41:32 PM)

Love how we smell blood
Very opportunistic
Hungry around the net

stfrank -> RE: Gopher Hockey (12/3/2020 8:23:47 PM)

Wow, I tune in late and we are up 3-0 so I guess it was a pretty good 1st couple of periods .

stfrank -> RE: Gopher Hockey (12/3/2020 8:26:09 PM)

From I have seen in the last half of the 2nd period it looks like we are completely controlling the play.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (12/3/2020 8:29:10 PM)

Just pounding them
Could be 6-0
Best 4th line in the country
