twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/14/2011 10:04:50 PM)

Gophers beat the Flickertails! Feels so good.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/14/2011 10:13:02 PM)

Way to go Gophers! The times I flipped over to check the score that crowd sure was quiet. Way to knock them in the teeth early and take fans and players out of it.

Now do it again tomorrow.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/15/2011 9:36:57 AM)

Great win! My favorite part was when a Gopher assistant coach was asked before the start of 3rd "what did you say to settle your team down?" His answer: "I don't think we want them to settle down." That was an excellent strategy. They responded to the tying goal the same way they reacted to everything else. Just kept coming right back at them.

Great win for the Gophers, tough loss for the Sioux......as usual, a great game between these two.

But lets get the Gophers out of the WCHA so they can get a hockey rivalry with Penn State.......geesh louise.

Should be another great game tonight.....

And Matty D.....why do you hate the Sioux??????

Every Gopher fan hates the stinking Sioux. You HAVE to.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/15/2011 7:35:26 PM)

UND's flopping tonight would make a soccer player blush

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/15/2011 8:50:33 PM)

Wow, does that MN assistant coach have lowered expectations. He'll gladly take being down a goal going into the 3rd? He must be a Gardy lover.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/16/2011 9:08:26 AM)

Yeah that was disgusting. They seemed to be "Ok" with just getting 1 win. The program has sunk a lot, for sure. You know the fighting Poo would come out on fire after Friday. We didn't seem interested in trying to stay with them all game long.

Jason Dorn -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/16/2011 1:17:12 PM)

The two points were nice but the Sioux were the superior team. The Gophers make way too many mistakes with the puck in their own end. In the past Gopher teams could recover from a mistake like the turnover that lead to the game being tied up, now it is just the beginning of the end against a superior team. The Sioux applied consistent pressure both games as most of the weekend was played in the Gopher end, which is understandable as the Sioux are a great program and at home. However not to that degree which is concerning, too many turnovers is one thing but the Sioux were just quicker while the Gophers seemed to just be hangin on...that wouldnt happen in the past when the Gophers had the ability to light up anyone in the country for 5-7 goals on any given night. Over the past three seasons the Gophers would be lucky to score three and too many of these 1,2 goal outputs where they dont even threaten the opponent. Lucia and his we have to be a team to win 3-2 mentality isnt helping either, they dont need to hear that and appear to play too tight...very 500 this season again and fans being excited about a 3-2 victory over the Sioux is more of an indictment about how far the program has fallen...it used to be the expectation.

Its great to get the two points in a tough building, I just wish the Gophers would have responded with a better effort, my concern is that they are trying their best and thats as good as it gets. Still in good position to get home ice for the playoffs but come on its Minnesota Gopher hockey and we should be competeing for the WCHA and national title...has the program fallen so far that its a good year to qualify for the NCAAs?

Guest -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/22/2011 3:02:30 PM)

Know this is Gopher Hockey thread but all those Gopher fans who hate the Sioux.......Nebraska Omaha crushed the Sioux in Grand Forks last night by a score of 8-4.........worst home ice defeat since the Gophs beat them 10-1 up there a while ago.

head coach of UNO.....Dean Blais....the former Sioux Head Coach who led them to two national titles.  He is a damn fine coach.  In his second year at UNO, he has that program humming along.....very impressive for a very young program.  Interest in hockey is huge in Omaha.....need Steve L. to comment of UNO's team.  If I recall, I think he left UND to try and become a head coach in the NHL but then I wonder if a family illness didn't curtail that effort.

From the article

"Obviously the guys weren't ready to play," North Dakota coach Dave Hakstol said. "I'm not going to throw accolades anybody's way."

Show some classs Hakstol and stop being a prick.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/22/2011 3:24:30 PM)

They were talking about Coach Blais on the radio today (1500, can't think of the callsign) and they said that when he signed with UNO the only clause he insisted on was that he could get out of his contract if he was offered the job at Minnesota. They agreed to it, so if Lucia ever steps down, presumably Blais would be the obvious first look for a replacement.

Guest -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/22/2011 3:57:36 PM)

Blais is 60 and is a grandparent to a number of kids.  I couldn't find anything but I thought that when he was at Columbus, his wife came down with an illness.....but I couldn't find it on the web.

If Omaha builds a new hockey facility, I doubt that he would leave, even for the U of M.  But he seems to be enjoying coaching as much as ever.

He has been a winner everywhere he is been, first at Roseau, then UND, now UNO.....not counting the stint in between the college experiences.

And he was a finalist for the Look alike of Dave Letterman contest.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/22/2011 7:33:08 PM)

I had a long-winded post keyed up last week but deleted it about Hack-n-stall and his wicked buddy Eades ....
Classless is the nicest thing I can say about them.
Last week was perfect example ... UND gets beat Fri night by a down Goph team, and all it does is make UND meaner and cheaper.
They respond Sat night and take it to Gophers. Its like 4-1 late, and 99.9% of sports teams (in the Sioux's shoes) would have let the Gophers slink out of town with their tail betweens their legs.
Heck, its what the Gophers wanted to do. ... if you'd let them ... but nooooooooo, gotta add on a couple elbows to the head, a couple checks from behind, the usual face-wash on every play, just being bigger dicks than usual. And that comes from the top. NO ONE loves "tough" hockey more than me. NO ONE. But what they teach isn't tough hockey, it's dangerous, jack-ass, cheap hockey.
And the WCHA lets 'em. It's liek you watch it, you know whats coming, and everyone just is accustomed to saying ... "it's ok, it's the way they play".
I call bullshit.
My oldest son is in GF and you can find him  in their crowd most nights ... he's the one for the other team. [:D]
He was there last night and kept texting me about how sweet it was to watch Blais and his boys embarasss them. Stuff always comes around.

Guest -> RE: Gopher Hockey (1/23/2011 12:47:34 PM)

Eades was a jerk when he played at UND but Sioux fans loved him......I did too at the time......I was in grad school in the early 80's.  But he played dirty all the time....questionable hits, etc.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (2/5/2011 7:41:03 PM)

Need this win in Dulooot tonight.
Need at least 3 this weekend, we got 1 last night.
Tough to HAVE to win Saturday night. But its gotta be done, boys.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (2/5/2011 8:23:15 PM)

Not quitting.
Got 3-0 defecit cut down to 3-2 now.
Showing some signs of life in this club. Even down 3, they were the better team, playing pretty well.
Don't ask me how UMDs leading scorer gets left alone in front of net, tho. [&o]
Keep pluggin away boys.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (2/5/2011 8:32:52 PM)
