UGHHH. More of the same. We are getting out hustled and out skated. 5-2 after two. They get tons of odd man rushes and we have ZERO speed through the neutral zone. This sucks.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/20/2012 8:43:28 PM)

Phew. A win tonight. So far, between the Lynx and Gopher Football and hockey last night, this was looking to be a sad weekend for Minnesota sports. Now with a win tonight, and a Viking win tomorrow (!) things don't seem so bad.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/22/2012 8:53:52 AM)

Congrats to The Don on #600
Helluva career
"I've never had to get a real job" [:D]
Gophers saw what it's like to carry the #1 rank around.
Not easy. Learning experience. Just starting what should be a really fun year.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/28/2012 3:32:00 PM)

How did the Gophers rank drop to #2?

And where the heck is Canisius College?

Eked out a tough win at 1-0.

We lost last weekend so we dropped.

Upper NY area, around Buffalo.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/28/2012 6:51:52 PM)

Thanks. I knew we had lost one game, but didn't realize it was enough to drop our ranking.

Oh well. Gopher Hockey still looks like it's going to be a pleasant reprieve from some of the other disappointing sports stories we've been following.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (10/28/2012 7:25:06 PM)

Should be a lot lower than #2
We've played like #2, that much is true ...
Early season feeling-out
The Sue beat the US 18 team by a bunch, and were totally disappointed in the result.
We tied them. Not gelling quickly, but certainly have the potential.
it WAS fun to see some future Gophers on that national team, tho ... we will be stocked for years to come.
Too early to be upset, but it looks like we have a lot of work to do.
One things for sure, when Rau is out, we lack fire.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/4/2012 1:08:58 PM)

NOW I'm on the Matt wagon.
Time to start getting concerned.
Much more talented than these opponents.
But thats not translating to wins. That's not good.
These guys have a lot to learn about how tough it is to wear that sweater.
It's everyone's biggest game of the year. We're not ready for that. Tht has to change, or the seasons expectations will flame out soon.
Not disappointed by anything, but the results. Improve your approach, boys. Potulneys got work to do on that.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/4/2012 5:53:11 PM)

Where did #5 (Reilly) come from? I remember reading he was some D stud. He's flat out sucked all year and has been directly responsible for at least 5 goals. [X(]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/5/2012 8:48:40 AM)

Same thought
Our D plays like they think we are on the pp at all times.
No real responsibility shown right now.

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/5/2012 9:21:41 AM)

Well, on the upside, this time we won the Friday night game - which was a tough win previously. {shrug}

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/5/2012 9:24:08 AM)

Always the bright side, Lynn
Good on you.
Wish I could.
[:D]

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/5/2012 9:28:22 AM)

To tell you the truth when I first pulled up the window to type a post I had something completely different in mind. Something like "why can't we ever just have as great a season as everyone anticipated and ride a wave like other fans get to do?"

But I decided that was too whiney and went with plan B. [:D]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/5/2012 9:30:23 AM)

I already pulled that whiney one out .... [:D]

Ward Peterson -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/9/2012 12:24:48 PM)

So, have you got any young up-and-comers I should be watching for tonight?

I'll be the guy with the old North Stars jersey...Goldsworthy...#8

Should be easy to spot in the crowd

Unfortunately, we'd need to be there to actually see you. No local TV here. [X(]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/9/2012 1:34:31 PM)

Hate that.
Enjoy the top line, Ward.
Should be the country's best.
Watch our tender .... Biggest question mark.

Ward Peterson -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/9/2012 2:05:52 PM)

You gotta be shittin' me

No local TV...I can see them blacking out games at home, but come on!

Even Anchorage will televise all away games... and we live at the end of the world.

wouldn't miss these games, the Gophs might not be up here much anymore

Do the Goldsworthy shuffle every time you buy a beer.

Live feed up for Goph game ... just about to drop the puck!

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/9/2012 10:48:23 PM)

2 PP goals make it 2-0 at the end of one.
UAA is not good.
Rink is probably less than half-full. Way less.
Should be easy to spot Ward. [:-]

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/10/2012 12:29:10 AM)

Solid 4-0 win.
PP was golden, lots of great opps and nice goals.
Very quiet game otherwise, 5-on-5 was very uneventful.
Wilcox solid in net.
Need to sweep this team. No excuses Saturday night boys.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/10/2012 12:35:50 AM)

Gopher players need to listen to the UAA feed tonight ....
Couple of their players (between periods) and even one announcer brought up their "hatred" for Minnesota.
The other announcer chuckled at that, wondered why UAA would "hate" Minnesota, certainly not a rival ....
To which the announcer (an ex-UAA player) replied .... "ahhh, I guess we always considered the Gophers as pampered, kinda always treated like Kings, from what we saw".
THATS why you have to strap it on every night, fellas.....

Ward Peterson -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/10/2012 1:20:44 AM)

3RD star .. Wilcox in goal    Let a few rebounds drop in front of him, but other than that, flawless

2nd star .. Schmidt    played a great game

1rst star .. Rau       for obvious reasons    What a sniper!!!

It was a men against boys show from the first minute. Score could have easily been 8 or 10 to nothing. SMOTHERING DEFENSE. UAA had NO chance
The crowd sat quietly in awe and talked amoung themselves.

Your defenseman Boyd, must have smelled the blood in the water and crashed the net at least 3 times that I saw, leaving his point position to get in on possible scoring chances in front when he didn't really need to. I don't know if that's by design, and you can get away with that playing a poor team, But you do that against the good ones and it's a 3 on 1 going the other way in a heartbeat. UAA was embarrassed in their house tonight. Look for them to bring it tomarrow.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (11/10/2012 10:16:57 PM)

Gophs up 1-0 2 min in.
PP goal
Ambroz from Boyd
PP is smoking hot.
