Not a strand of gray in Lucia's head back then.

It's kind of shocking actually, to see how he's aged. (almost as fast as me)
He was THE MAN at that time.
My wife used to watch all the games with me, just to look at Donnie. [:D]

That's called loving a senior leader...

The U has a youtube channel where they put all their stuff on.
Its all pretty cool stuff.
Lots of it ends up on FB.

Hope she's not a UND hockey fan.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 1:03:30 AM)

Their sweaters look like boogers.

When she went to school there .. yes.
Once she met our family, and started working there ... nope. [&:]
She was the top employee at The Ralph this year (her part-time gig)
I hope no one there finds out she's a spy.  [&:]
She goes to all the events, and when my son goes along, he decks out completely in Gopher stuff. Drives her crazy. He's had to fight his way out of a couple places. [&:]

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 1:10:14 AM)

I don't mind Grand Forks. Practically grew up there. A second home. Nearest fast food, nearest movie theater when I was growing up. Went there almost weekly. But cannot stand the UND hockey fans. I realized by the time I was 13 that they were the most rude subset of humanity in the entire sports world.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 1:12:41 AM)

Hear ya. We actually are liking the town a lot. It offers a lot more than we ever thought it would.
My sons fallen in love with it.
And agree ... all is good, until you start talking hockey. Then they turn into something ummm, well, something.....

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 1:16:18 AM)

I actually prefer the east side. As in east of the river. Better restaurants and bars.

My sister and her husband live in GF. I guess it works until you realize it's North Dakota. I really think I'd live in EGF if I had to live up there.........just because.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 1:19:59 AM)

Cool. Pay more taxes, but live the good life. That's the way to do it.

So, imo, tomorrow is Lucia's biggest moment as a leader. Whatcha got Don? I've been steadfast on the guy. He enters Brooks territory now, can he knock on the door?

Great point.
To ever be considered a Brooks peer, he's gotta get this one done.
Its been shocking to me to realize ... like Ed said earlier .. its really been since '03 since we've done this.
Not sure if it was the back-to-back titles that bought him all the slack, but that's a long time in-between when you realize it.
I KNOW we've had the top team in the nation many times in that period, and never GOT IT DONE.
Get it done tomm, Donny. Agree Jeff. its his moment to either immortalize himself, or just be another good one.

Guentzel coming back was pivotal to the turnaround. Players win games and talent is king, however, coaching is critical to development as a player and an adult. Since his return there is a noticable difference at defense. Less turnovers, monumental increase in passing accuracy and angles to recieve. I played for Mike when he was an assistant for the Vulcans and Kevin Hartzell. Guentz knows his stuff, always harping on hitting the net with low accurate shots from the point. Does not tolerate turnovers, demands quick precise passing out of the zone. Total lunchbox mentality takes a marginal talented kid and makes them efficient. At the same time a talent like Reilly is learning how to excel at the next level with equal demands of committment as a marginal talent. Players are working both hard and smart along with having a extremly passionate coach.

Prior to that it was terrible passing fundamentals, horrible defensive zone coverage, turnovers, marginal player development and a struggle to gain home ice in the opening round of the playoffs in the old WCHA.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 8:37:41 AM)

I really think the "brain cancer" scare for Lucia also had a massive impact on the program overall. He was strong through the whole thing in public but i bet that shook the whole team to the ground. How could it not?

Lynn G. -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 10:19:04 AM)

I made a completely doofus mistake and bought tickets to an event that is tonight. I bought the tickets almost two months ago - so how could I have known?

I'm going to record the game but I hope to catch the later parts of it on the radio when I'm driving back after 9:00. My timing is crap sometimes. It always seems to happen that when I plan something months in advance the calendar is completely empty at that time, but 9 times out of 10 by the time the date arrives there is something else really important on that exact day and time that I want to do.

I trust that all of you will do some extra shouting at the tv for me.

GOPHERS ANSWER RIGHT BACK. 2-1.

twinsfan -> RE: Gopher Hockey (4/12/2014 7:01:44 PM)

Not sure how Warning's shot went in. Looked like a hopeless angle. That was sweet!

I was afraid they might disallow the first Gopher goal. Not sure on the strictness of man in the crease in college hockey. Sounds like it's not an automatic disallow, huh? Good.
