Discuss the team here.

TJSweens -> RE:Gopher Football (7/16/2007 11:32:26 PM)

Sexual assault charges have been filed Dominic Jones. The other 3 players are still under investigation.

Sexual assault charges have been filed Dominic Jones. The surprising thing is that Jones was not one of the original 3 arrested and suspended. Apparently they retrieved a phone video of him in the act with the victim.

Jeff Jesser -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 4:40:58 PM)

Yeah, they have video evidence on one of the players cell phones. Apparently the girl was completely passed out.

Jim Frenette -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 4:58:40 PM)
Yeah, they have video evidence on one of the players cell phones. Apparently the girl was completely passed out.
Just when a person starts feeling good about the program, crap like this pops up. He was a good DB and punt returner.

He was a good DB and punt returner.
How nice for Brewster that the bulk of his first year has to be spent cleaning up messes that he isn't responsible for. These aren't his players, but he is between a rock and a hard place because if he stands by them he is perceived as fostering sexual predators. If he throws them under a bus, he is judging them guilty before a court of law does. How does he go into a recruits home, look his parents in the eye and tell them he will look out for their son?

Jim Frenette -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 5:52:17 PM)

I'm not sure if I heard it correctly, but I guess the cell phone video the police have was a deleted file. This isn't good for anyone if this can happen. What if someone playfully took a picture of his wife coming out of the shower and later deleted it and lost his phone and someone found it and retrieved the file and put in on the Internet? Not good. This isn't posted in defense of Jones though, just the rest of us.

TJSweens -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 6:06:57 PM)

You have to wonder about the stupidity of someone who would make a video of himself raping someone.

Jim Frenette -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 6:10:02 PM)
You have to wonder about the stupidity of someone who would make a video of himself raping someone.
I think it was from one of the other three's phone, but that is still stupid. Like Salisbury taking a picture of his Johnson and texting it to a couple of girls.

Jeff Jesser -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 6:12:22 PM)

For them to get that footage from the Telecom company it would have to come from an official police request. All those things are archived but some random donkey couldn't come across them. There are some pretty strict security laws in this business about stuff like that. Everything is available but it's hard to get it released. The thing is, somebody had to tip of the cops/prosecutors that it existed before they could request it. I doubt the girl knew. I'm guessing one of the fellas copped a deal, so to speak.

Jeff Jesser -> RE:Gopher Football (7/17/2007 6:21:16 PM)

Yeah, it's a touchy situation for sure. I would never work in Internet Security. Those people have it rough and tend to be weird anyway. I'm on the IP-crew here at work and have to deal with them. I hate that part of my job. It's like marching to the Gallows.

If one of the participants told the police about the video it is evidence that the police know about. They have probable cause to look for that evidence just as they would to get a search warrant to search a home. I don't see any privacy violations here.

Jim Frenette -> RE:Gopher Football (7/19/2007 4:32:19 PM)

Brewster made a tough decision in cutting the 4 players from the team, but in my opinion, it was the correct choice. A couple would have been starters but the big picture is more important to the program. Kids need to know just because they are high profiles on campus that they don't get treated differently.

TJSweens -> RE:Gopher Football (7/19/2007 5:26:41 PM)

I think Brewster handled a rotten situation very well. He didn't immediately throw them under the bus and he didn't champion their defense. He reserved judgment until the facts were in and acted decisively when they did. He can tell the public that he will not tolerate players that will embarrass the team, the school and the community. He can also look parents in the eye during recruiting trips and tell them he will look out for their son and that their son won't be coming to a place where he will not have his life choices affected by a collection of horses asses who's conduct will be tolerated because they can play.

The kids can transfer if they have hopes of continuing their football career and I'm sure they will.

Chicken Legs -> RE:Gopher Football (7/21/2007 11:05:50 PM)

Coach Brewster should be commended for how he handled the situation involving the 4 players. What kinda amazes me is the LB from St. Louis, MO? He's involved in a couple robberies in his hometown....yet, he's playing football for Coach Mason? What kind of 'background searches' do they do? Again, the LB either lied on his application OR wasn't forthcoming into what his 'priors' were!

"Tailback U" has found another one by the sounds of it. The Gophers football team concluded practice Tuesday with a mini-scrimmage and true freshman tailback Duane Bennett stole the show. With Jay Thomas sidelined because of a sore knee, Bennett got reps with the first team and rushed for 39 yards on nine carries, including a 16-yard touchdown run. Bennett showed speed, power and effort and impressed coaches and teammates. "Duane Bennett is an outstanding football player," coach Tim Brewster said. "He's making us a better football team right now." Said senior linebacker John Shevlin, "That kid is impressive." • Willie Dyson moved from defensive end to middle linebacker. • Reserve quarterback Mike Frankberg put off medical school until next semester so he can play his senior season. CHIP SCOGGINS Hey, it's the one part of the game they have had right for past decade or so. Some great "big uglies" up front making holes and some talented backs making ridiculous yards. If that continues, and they can add any kind of a passing game whatsoever, look out. Warning - maroon kool-aid lover here. :beer2:

I know he is using a spread offense but I'm not sure the ZB is used in that type offens, but he was with Denver and they use ZB.

Adam Weber gets the start at QB vs Bowling Green. Excited to see what changes have been made. Pretty simple (ha ha), Keep the dominant run game, add in a dangerous pass attack. Please? And oh yeah, fly to the ball on D. Pressure the QB. tackle well and cause t.o.s. Simple stuff. :lol: As long as I don't have to see "Glen Mason Face" anymore, I'll be happy. Ya know, that whole squinting at the scoreboard while the other team roars back look. Hated that.

Anyone else listening to all the rah rah from Brewster starting to get the Jim Wacker feeling? Let's hope he does better on the field

Wacker was a great man, just shouldn't have been coaching Big 10 football.

Brewster is a more proven recruiter than Wacky was when he took over and he did step up and hire a couple of legitimate kick ass coordinators. My reaction when they hired Wacker was :bang: I have a better feeling about Brewster.

Wacky was a cheerleader.
