I think Weber would look an awful lot better if we had a running game.

But we don't, so he won't.

Gray brings a run threat to the game that we otherwise don't have.

Give Brewster more time - maybe a game By Mark Craig, Star Tribune
Last update: October 24, 2009 - 7:38 PM

COLUMBUS, OHIO - We're 33 games into the Tim Brewster era and not really sure if this is still the beginning or perhaps the beginning of the end.
A 38-7 loss at Ohio State on Saturday dropped Brewster to 12-21, 5-16 in the Big Ten. That's not good enough, but it's also hard to give up on a guy after less than three years when he was hired based on his ability to recruit.
Ironically, in the midst of a second-half pratfall that ranked alongside some of Brewster's worst moments, his prized recruit, quarterback MarQueis Gray, had his best overall game. He ran for 81 yards while completing five of the first six passes of his career for 51 yards and a touchdown pass to Troy Stoudermire late in the game that saved Brewster from posting the program's first back-to-back shutout losses since 1950.

But he's still too stupid to realize that his best recruit should be starting! I stand by my claim that he's a very good recruiter but he has no business making any gameday decision beyond mustard, ketchup or both on his burger while he watches the game far away from the sidelines!

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Gopher Football (10/25/2009 10:20:46 AM)

Not only that Jake but he hired an OC that has ZERO experience in that role.  It would be one thing if Brewster was an offensive guru overseeing his new OC.  He isn't so Fisch is left out on his own.  Terrible mixture.

Jake Carlson -> RE: Gopher Football (10/27/2009 1:01:47 PM)

Agreed, Jeff. And now he has to gameplan the rest of the season without their best player. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that losing Decker will only give Brewster more excuses for Weber.

Decker out the rest of the year?

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (10/27/2009 1:40:34 PM)

That's the way it looks. Strib says he has a foot sprain and may need surgery.

Time to turn Grey loose. Brewster will need a playmaker. Weber is not the guy.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/28/2009 9:00:06 AM)

Very, very sad to see Deckers career end that way.
A special player.
This should have been a magical year for him.
Disappointing as hell to end this way.
He put as much effort into being a Gopher as any player I've ever watched.
I hope he gets the opp at the next level.
Don't count him out. Honestly think he is Welker-like.

But without Decker his roommate, thsi might make Weber a better QB forcing him to find another WR instead of always looking for Eric first

We can only hope this is how it turns out since Brewster probably won't make the proper decision and play Gray!

Karl Juhnke -> RE: Gopher Football (10/28/2009 2:15:11 PM)

This season is starting to turn ugly fast.  It started out great.  Even the loss against Cal was hard fought and entertaining.  But they are stuck in the mud right now.  You knew this stretch of the schedule would be a killer.  And just when they're through the worst of it, Decker being out only makes things worse.  I usually don't put too much importance in a single player at the receiver position.  But losing Decker is huge.  The feel that he had with Weber was amazing.  He doesn't have the flash of a Harvin or Moss.  But he knows all the little things, the tricks and techniques to make tons of catches and keep drives moving.  I don't think it's an exaggeration to say losing him takes a TD per game away from this offense.  And that's hard to overcome.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:29:53 PM)

man, you watch games like Illini-Mich and you wonder why that doesn't happen more.
CFB is so emotional.
I can't believe we don't see more wins by teams like the Gophers over better teams when they get them at home.
This opening season in this beautiful stadium has been disappointing for that.
Homecoming, you should win. Against Wisconsin, you should win. Stuff like that.
Every time this program seems to get righted, its tilts off course again.
Mich State? You handle them at your new home, you just do.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:53:22 PM)

Weber looking better tonight so far.
Build on this start, please.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:54:29 PM)

Glad to see Whaley being played a little more.
Kid brings ENERGY

Matt Dahl -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:55:34 PM)

What's with Weber on the short passes????? He's terrible. We'll lose this game if Brewster doesn't pull him.

Matt Dahl -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:57:46 PM)

I think the QB may have crossed the line of scrimmage there. Take a closer look at it.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 7:59:48 PM)

What a revoltin turn of events (as usual)

Matt Dahl -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 8:02:00 PM)

Weber keeps throwing the short passes into traffic. Over and over and over again!! There will be more picked off before this thing is over.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 8:03:12 PM)

Whats wrong, Matt ... isn't he YOUR quarterback?
He's Brews, and that's all that matters ....

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 8:06:27 PM)

Tow-Arnett reminds me of "Stubby" Stu Voight of the Vikings in the '70s.
Seems to "appear" out of hte turf near the first-down marker when his QB needs him most.
Stu had no talent, but put a hell of a career together. And then parlayed it into 20 years of Viking media work.

Matt Dahl -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 8:06:59 PM)

Those 2 long completions early in the game may not have been a good thing for the rest of the game...now we're for sure stuck with Weber.

Nice drop. [&o]

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 8:24:54 PM)

Nice answering drive, didn't we score there?

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 9:20:10 PM)

5 minutes into the 3rd and we have 12 penalties for 107 yards.

Amazing we still have the lead.

--edit--

We're getting big played to death this quarter.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 9:29:18 PM)

Unbelievable. 1st down on the 15 yard line and we end up missing a 48 yard FG.

Was just going to post that
Thats pathetic with a capital p
The crew said it best last week .... this is a team with NO DISCIPLINE
Poor reffing or not, its inexcusable to have all the self-inflicted wounds.

So.Mn.Fan -> RE: Gopher Football (10/31/2009 9:34:03 PM)

This reminds me of the Purdue/Gopher track meets from a couple years back.
Last team with ball wins. Or loses. [&:]
