If we had actually done that in the first place, we wouldn't be in the situation we are in now. Europe did. They are open wide for business now with incredibly low numbers. Except of course, Americans aren't allowed to travel there because .... well, you know.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (7/22/2020 12:51:43 PM)

Yeah, I just don't see CFB happening, either.
Which is JUST F-ING TYPICAL, now that we Gopher fans have a team. [X(]

Speaking of....aftermath of the dog incident a couple months ago.

Olivia says she's going to get a dog when she's on her own.

Will be a female

and she plans on naming her Karma.

I heard that and thought

Read some polls this weekend, many have the Gophers around the #24 range

Am I missing something?
Aren't we probably better than we were, last year?
I get it, who cares, and no big deal, and all that hoo-haaaa, but still …. shouldn't we be a tad bit higher than that?
They've got teams like Cinncy and Iowa State and UCF way ahead of us.
Just looked a little disrespectful to me.

I think we were picked to finish second to last in the Big Ten in 2019, so #24 is quite a jump in respect. [8|]

Maybe it's losing Winfield and others on defense that scare these "experts".

IF

There is a season

This is a kick in the package

University of Minnesota receiver Rashod Bateman announced today that he is forgoing his remaining eligibility at Minnesota to focus on preparing for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Bateman played in 26 games for Minnesota and in two years solidified himself as one of the best receivers ever to wear the Maroon and Gold. He ends his Minnesota career with 111 catches (tied for 12th in school history) for 1,923 yards (tied for eighth in school history) and 17 touchdowns (tied for fifth in school history).

Bateman was named Third-Team All-American last season, All-Big Ten First Team and was the Big Ten Receiver of the Year as a sophomore. The Georgia, native, who was also one of 12 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Awards, caught 60 passes for 1,219 yards (second most in a single season) and 11 touchdowns (tied for second most in a single season).

Following NFL guys
Citing Pandemic
Opting Out

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2020 10:18:24 AM)

Makes total sense.

There is basically no plan for the upcoming NCAA season beyond "Maybe it'll happen", and Bateman has absolutely nothing left to prove. He's a 1st round lock.

Have a feeling that this is the start of a trend.

Furthering those who opt out of bowl games to prep for the draft.

Have 2 great years? enough. Get ready for the draft.

It's fun to have nice shiny things. Just never last long around these here parts.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2020 10:30:20 AM)

One of our best friends broke the Bateman news to me with that very statement … (as we say often)
WE JUST CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS [X(]

If there's no college season, Bateman is ahead of the curve.

SoMnFan -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2020 10:44:01 AM)

Can't blame the kid

We will find another

But damn., this team would have been fun to watch.

If the HS league postpones football to the spring

Will have a huge impact on the future of a lot of Minnesota football kids.

Some late bloomers/on-comers may be in a tough spot.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2020 10:48:51 AM)

I wonder if any of the Clydesdales on the O-line will follow suit.

kgdabom -> RE: Gopher Football (8/4/2020 11:49:47 AM)

If the season is played out I think this does hurt Bateman's draft stock.
Those who play and play well will move ahead of him. I don't think he is a first round lock at all with opting out.

David Levine -> RE: Gopher Football (8/14/2020 10:54:40 AM)

Jon Krawczynski@JonKrawczynski
PJ Fleck says he’s had individual conversations with 30 Gophers so far. All 30 wanted to play, but all 30 believe the right decision is to not play at this time. They think Big Ten made the right decision

Mr. Ed -> RE: Gopher Football (8/14/2020 12:59:40 PM)

Play in the spring

Get hurt

Hurt your draft stock.

or be hurt enough not to play in the fall.

TJSweens -> RE: Gopher Football (8/15/2020 4:04:53 PM)

Meanwhile, Fleck got a commitment from an Ohio top 10 for 2022.

Ohio is a populous state. I would guess that this is pretty good recruit. Can you give details?
