Steve Lentz -> 2011 NBA Draft (3/14/2011 8:45:21 PM)

Love's streak is over. We need to upgrade the talent on this team. Which direction do we go?

Steve Lentz -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/14/2011 8:47:43 PM)

Harrison Barnes and Alec Burks intrigue me.

Ian Joseph -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/14/2011 8:57:21 PM)

Barnes is a baller.. I am really starting to like Sullinger, as well.

The guy I dont like, unless he was in a certain system or two, is Fredette.

He won't go in the top 15 I bet.

It doesn't matter. The team will still be owned by Taylor, run by Kahn and coached by Rambis.

Elliot -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/15/2011 7:16:55 AM)

At some point, you have to wonder when the youth movement is going to end.  The vision is to have a running team, playing at a fast pace and utilizing elements of the triangle.  None of these things mesh well with a young and inexperienced team.  So using another asset in the form of a high lottery pick to potentially add talent (I say this because Kahn's record in this regard has been spotty at best) but certainly add youth wouldn't seem to make a lot of sense.

Steve Lentz -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/15/2011 5:43:25 PM)

Though I'm high on Beasley's talent and ability to create his own shot I now believe he has a good chance of being traded. Unless a coach can get him to pass, defend better, and play smarter he needs to be moved. Hopefully his value is high enough to get us a veteran presence.

Jim Frenette -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 12:48:20 PM)

What do you guys see Fredette as in NBA? He is playing PG but I see him the way Orlando uses Redick

Agreed Fargo. I see him as an effective scorer off the bench. He will help some team.

Ian Joseph -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 1:38:27 PM)

I see him like Redick and Jason Kapono.. a shooter that will make someone's starting lineup for a while due to him being drafted high, but end up being a quality shooter off the bench.

djskillz -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 1:59:07 PM)

I see his upside as Curry, but could be more like a Redick. One thing that will hurt him is size though. Redick is a couple of inches bigger.

He needs to work on his defense a lot too. Redick is not a "good" defender, but he works hard at it. Fredette doesn't, at all.

David Levine -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 2:34:15 PM)

I don't think he has the skillset to be a Steph Curry.

He's going to be a strong bench guy that you legitimately have to guard out to 30 feet.

I don't know; he's not quite as quick, but he's got a great start/stop motion about him, ala Ginobli. I'm not all that high on him, but I see that as his ceiling. He needs to be in a great situation to succeed IMO.

Elliot -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 4:41:03 PM)

I think Jimmer's totally situational.

SoMnFan -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 8:08:10 PM)

Re: Jimmer
(for all you old-timers)
I see Mark Price. I think he can run a team form the traditional PG spot.
It'd freak people out, but if I was a perennially losing club, I'd try it.
I just think he's got too much of a motor to accept a "simply shooting" role.

djskillz -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 8:46:18 PM)

Mark Price might be a good comp/upside for him, Scott. Nice.

The same place that has an awesome NFL Mock Draft Database has one for NBA Mock drafts, too.

Right now, with the records being what they are, the Timberwolves would draft second if there was no lottery, and could end up no worse than fifth.

Which, of course, means they'll end up choosing fifth.

Must be 4 "sure things" in this draft.
Not kidding. Must be.

You had to be in diapers when Price was rockin it.
he stole my game (and perfected it)  [:D]

Uh, no. That's backwards. They don't automatically get the worst draft position, they get a pick which is one lower than the actual number of can't-miss prospects. They could still draft anywhere from 1 to 5. If this draft is devoid of the obvious superstar, the T-wolves will get the top pick.

Personally, I think they're saving that trick for next year. Then they can ship it to the Clippies and kill us all.

djskillz -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/20/2011 9:47:06 PM)

Irving and Barnes will both be very good pros.

I like Kanter a lot too.

Matt Lang -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/21/2011 5:45:46 AM)

I'm thinking Barnes might not be a super-star talent though. He'll be a really good starter, and probably an all-star a few times, but not one of the top elite guys in the league. Kind of more like Ray Allen (talent level, not game style) than Kevin Durant. Your thoughts? I'm sure you've seen him play more than I have -

Matt Lang -> RE: 2011 NBA Draft (3/21/2011 5:59:45 AM)

With the Twolves' luck, there'll be a lockout and most of the great players will go back to school rather than entering the draft. We'll get some decent but not great guy, while next year's draft will be loaded and we'll be giving our (easily top 5) pick to the Clippers. [X(]

Oh, I think they're going to get to pick from some solid players with their lottery selection, wherever than might end up.  But the Memphis pick (and, should it happen as such, the Utah pick) would likely be devalued this year.

There was a very interesting dialog over on Canis a few days ago, which essentially asked the question: assuming both players were available, why would you select Harrison Barnes with a top lottery pick, when you could select Jordan Hamilton with a mid-first rounder?
