SCSU vs UNO on FSN+ tonight.....sounds like a better option than the Gophers vs Michigan on BTN.

SCSU is always a better option than the gophers.
Huskies win 2-0 outshooting Omaha 38-18.

Gophers tied Michigan 2-2
UMD lost 3-2 to Western Michigan
Mankato won 4-1 over Alaska Anchorage

Beavers beat Bama Huntsville 4-0

Not a Minnesota Team, but Massachusetts ranked #1 in the country lost to Quinnipiac 4-0.
SCSU wins tomorrow they lock up the #1 ranking again. Mankato should move into second.

Why was UMass #1 at all? It's clear that the Top 3 teams in the nation are all Minnesota schools.

They bounced back tonight beating a very good Quinnipiac team 3-1 tonight. I think Mass is for real. Maybe not top 3 for real, but quite good.

Started out flipping back and forth between SCSU and Gophers games. Huskies are dominating, so I guess I'll watch the more interesting Gophers game from here on out.

Congrats kg. But condolences on the SCSU women's losses to Wisconsin this weekend. Today was a valiant effort. Lost 3-1, but there was an empty-netter.

Thanks Matt. The final score was SCSU 7 Omaha 1. Other Minnesota Scores
Gophers 4 Michigan 3
Beavers 2 Bama Huntsville 4 and you are correct an unacceptable loss
Mankato 6 Anchorage 0. Mankato is VERY GOOD.

UMD ties Western Michigan 1-1.
New Poll should go SCSU first and Mankato 2nd.
Massachusetts is still #1 in the pairwise followed by SCSU, Mankato, and Duluth.
Minnesota at 20 and BSU at 26.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/10/2018 8:36:29 AM)

As kg noted, the updated Pairwise rankings place BSU at #26. The loss to #59 (out of 60 teams) Alabama-Huntsville was unacceptable. I'm surprised it didn't hurt BSU more in the Pairwise. Now we can't afford to be swept by any teams the rest of the way, especially Minnesota State and Michigan Tech. Winning the rest of our games against those two teams could be enough to get us back in the Top 14 in the Pairwise.

The University of Alabama-Huntsville used a three-goal third period to erase a 2-1 deficit, steal a 4-2 victory Saturday and salvaging a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series split.

Four different Chargers scored goals and Jesper Öhrvall posted a pair of assists to lead Alabama-Huntsville in scoring, while Jake Theut settled in after a rough first period to finish with 21 saves to collect his first victory of the season (1-5-0).

The Beavers jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 8:09 into the game on goals separated by just 65 seconds by Charlie Combs and Dillon Eichstadt, but UAH would get one back before the end of the first and after a scoreless second frame, would three in the third, including a power-play goal by Cam Knight at the 4:34 mark, to tilt the game in their favor.

Combs led the Beavers offensively netting a goal and an assist to finish the weekend with five points (4g-1a).

BSU goaltender Zach Driscoll was tagged with the loss after allowing four goals on 17 shots in 56:13 between the pipes. He moves to 3-3-1 on the season.

The Beavers dip to 7-7-2 overall and 5-4-1-0 in WCHA play. BSU will wrap up its current four-game homestand and the first half of the season next weekend when it welcomes the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/10/2018 8:37:32 AM)

Lake Superior State is up to #22 in the Pairwise. Pretty decent showing for the WCHA overall this season. That's a nice change, and could help us get multiple teams into the tourney.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/10/2018 8:40:09 AM)

But I see we have 3 of the 5 worst teams in all of DI hockey -

Pairwise Rankings:
#56 Ferris State
#59 Alabama-Huntsville
#60 Alaska-Anchorage

Throw in Alaska at #52, and there's not gonna be any value in beating those teams. But multiple losses to any of them will hurt bigly.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/10/2018 9:20:27 AM)

I don't understand Serratore's goaltender preferences. Henry Johnson has been the 3nd best goaltender in the WCHA, with a 1.80 GAA average in 10 games played. But he continues to play Zach Driscoll (12 games) more often, with his not-so-sparkling 2.71 GAA. It's time to make Johnson the #1 goaltender. He needs to be playing both games every weekend until he proves he can't handle it. These Driscoll give-away games are getting old.

twinsfan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/10/2018 9:29:30 AM)

CLARIFICATION:

Those are their numbers during WCHA games only!

Look deeper, and playing Driscoll over Johnson is even more stupid than I thought!

Check this out:

Games started:
Driscoll 19
Johnson 8

Minutes played:
Driscoll 1,095
Johnson 532

Save percentage:
Driscoll .890
Johnson .927

GAA:
Driscoll 2.96
Johnson 1.69

Coach Serratore needs to get his head out of the sand and look at these statistics. Why does Driscoll have over DOUBLE the amount of minutes on the ice than Johnson? Johnson is our next Bitzer.

It doesn't seem to make much sense. Maybe Johnson puts up better numbers because they are only using him against scrub teams.

I think he has trouble trusting young guys.

Johnson. He should play again tonight.

Huntsville shutout Michigan Tech. That should help BSU in the Pairwise, because now their loss to Huntsville was not as unforgivable as we originally thought.

Unfortunately they Follow up their crushing win over Anchorage with a 2-1 OT loss to Anchorage. Johnson did a very good job only allowing one in regulation. Another fluky loss I guess.
Seems they are capable of big games, but can't string them together.
Mankato got blown out by Bowling Green losing another 4-1. Mankato going to take a big drop in the polls on a weekend when they could have made up some ground for #1.

Yup, we outshot them 29-23. I don't really consider flukey losses to be true losses. The better team "lost."

There is more to hockey than how many shots you take. There is a thing called goaltending and even though it's just one of the players it is about half of the game. There is also quality of shots.
Not every loss where you take more shots is a fluky loss.

I was expecting lots of updates on MN college hockey here. Now I'm gonna have to do my own research.

Nothing to report. Nobody was playing. However, USCHO.COM is the best place to go that I know of.

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/28/2018 10:58:06 PM)

Latest Minnesota Hockey Results.
SCSU lost 6-4 to the Under 18 all star team and IMO that is a humiliation. If that team is actually under 18 as I understand it that means they lost to 17 or even 16 year olds and that is unacceptable regardless of their all star status. Goalies were sieves with Hrenak giving up 2 goals on 12 shots and Smith giving up 3 goals on 11 shots.

Gophers beat Ferris state 5-3 and UMD beat Mankato 4-3 in OT in a tourney in Arizona.

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (12/29/2018 11:38:02 PM)

Ferris state over the Rodents 3-2.
UMD loses to Clarkson 3-1
ASU a 2-2 tie with Mankato.

Not a Minnesota Game, but UND beat the same Under 18 all stars that SCSU lost to 6-2.

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (1/4/2019 7:29:28 PM)

The long layoff was not good for SCSU. Their two worst games of the year coming back to back. A 7-2 loss to a solid Union team. OUCH!!!!

kgdabom -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (1/6/2019 5:53:38 PM)

A good bounce back for SCSU winning 5-2 over Robert Morris.
UMD follows suit of SCSU by losing to the under 18 all star team 4-2.
Gophers with a great 4-1 win over #9 Penn State
Mankato 4-2 over Mich Tech

Massachusetts had a loss vs Mass Lowell so it will be interesting to see the new poll.

Pairwise has Mass 1 SCSU 2 UMD 6 Mankato 9 Gophers 27 BSU 35. This far in the season it's looking like long shots for Minnesota and BSU to get in the tourney.

SoMnFan -> RE: Other college hockey (BSU, UND, SCSU, etc) (1/7/2019 7:17:00 AM)

All results this past weekend were GREATLY affected by the World Juniors, you have to remember.
I liked the win over Penn State, until I remembered that (their best 2 guys were in Vancouver)
Same with SCSU ... Poehling is amazing, and he was gone. hard to play well when the best pieces are gone.

Fair enough. I think SCSU still had five or six Poehlings playing for them. [&:]

OK time to see who is for real this weekend. SCSU playing at UMD. Go Huskies and get the road sweep against one of the best teams in the country.
