13. Minnesota Vikings (7-6-1)

Week 15 ranking: 13

Biggest breakthrough: The run game. Mike Zimmer said it best: When Dalvin Cook has the ball in his hands, good things typically happen for the Vikings' offense. After weeks of struggling to generate a potent rushing attack, Minnesota keyed in on the 31st-ranked run defense and ran circles around Miami, notching season highs in attempts (40), yards (220) and rushing touchdowns (three). The way Cook affected the game helped set up a potent play-action attack for Kirk Cousins and stymied the issues that were causing the Vikings to fall short in three recent losses. -- Courtney Cronin

He sputtered, he stammered, and all that would come out were a couple of punctuation marks.
Impressive, Sweens.

My son has been working security at Vikings games as a fundraiser for his baseball team. He has been part of the on-the-field staff for a few games. NFL.com gallery had a picture of him in the background from one of the games. I posted it and then was worried that in some weird sequence of events he would lose his job over it so I took it down. Pretty neat experiences for him.

You do that too, Ron?

LOL. Yeap. Zimmer and Feffer special so far.

1st play was a half yard QB sneak and now we just about had a punt blocked for a TD

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/24/2018 8:00:22 AM)

Yeap. They are a mess and we took advantage. Won't be good enough next week if we want to dance. D has really turned it around. If not for some ticky-tacky PI calls they were pretty much flawless. ST's and O still sputter at times. With an OLine so sketchy that's expected. If we make it, it'll most likely be 1 and done.

I mentioned in the gameday thread. The 1 time a game we try to get tricky (read modern) it's always a disaster. And I don't mean 'the other team figures it out'. I mean 'we have guys running to each other.....disaster'.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 3:23:54 PM)

I watched a lot of that Saints game to see how he did and it wasn't very pretty. He had that one nice TD pass but that was about it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 3:52:32 PM)

Vikings Offense is playing scared.

Bears' Bee-otches

twinsfan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 4:03:04 PM)

Vikes need to go back to their true purple colors IMO. I don't understand when or why they shifted to these light purple unis. That is NOT a Vikings color.

TJSweens -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 4:08:29 PM)

Compton and Remmers are the worst pair of guards in football bar none.

MDK -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 6:01:17 PM)

Mn professional sports continues to suck. Best thing to happen to this vikings team is to not make the playoffs which they won't now after the bears stopped them on 4th down.

Mike Zimmer and the Vikings Have Some Soul-Searching To Do: They have two superstar receivers. They spent $84 million for three years of Kirk Cousins. They have one of the five worst offensive lines in football. Mike Zimmer’s insistence that they run the ball, and his history of pushing offensive coordinators out the door mid-season, is the complete wrong way for this offense to operate. Simply put: The front office needs to add some talent up front, and then Zimmer needs to get out of the way on that side of the ball. This isn’t working.

Yes, Kirk Cousins Buyer’s Remorse for Now: But as mentioned above, the Vikings need to run an offense that fits their personnel. What Mike Zimmer wants them to do—run the ball behind one of football’s worst offensive lines while letting Thielen and Diggs waste away—is, well, the exact opposite of what they should be doing. Sunday's season-ending home loss to the Bears was a fitting end for a dysfunctional unit.

Agree 100 % Ed.
Zimmer is 30 to 40 years behind the NFL times.

ronhextall -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/30/2018 11:16:18 PM)

I agree. Zimmer needs to go. Speilman doesn’t deserve to hire his replacement.

They are both 50% responsible for the disaster.

Let new GM hire offensive head coach.

Considering roster I think it is attractive job.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/31/2018 7:54:02 AM)

Yeap. Lets not sugar coat him either. His D sucks when we needed them most. 1st drive of the game, mauled. We finally get back in to and could take the lead, mauled. He's way over matched.

Neither RS or MZ are going anywhere as confirmed by the Wilf Brothers. The Vikings ORG is run by idiots just like the Twins.

And we keep drinking the cool-aid and following this stuff year after/ Will we ever learn.

Probly not unless we give up sports as a hole

Jeff Jesser -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (12/31/2018 4:43:23 PM)

He's right though. Whether or not we want change, it's not happening. The 'best' case scenario (knowing they aren't leaving) is that Stefanski gets the Cleveland gig and Zimmer picks another OC that has the balls to ignore his input.

SoMnFan -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins Fans (1/2/2019 8:26:08 AM)

14. Minnesota Vikings (8-7-1)

Week 17 ranking: 13

New Year's resolution: String it all together. The Vikings played very little complementary football during an embarrassing finish to the season. One week might have featured a pivotal game for the offense, while the next belonged to the defense, but the Vikings were unable to put all three phases together when it mattered most down the stretch. That has been a theme ever since Mike Zimmer arrived in 2014. Minnesota has struggled to find consistency. Although it appears Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman are staying put, they will more than ever need to be on the same page to make up for a disappointing season. -- Courtney Cronin
