Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 10:56:20 AM)

The "Tuck Rule" came from a gaffe in the playoffs.

How are they going to fix this gaffe?

Either they wont or there will be more fumbles.

I'd go with the fumbles.

The wording of the rule is stupid.
Aaron Rodgers arrogantly telling us all that we are stupid to not know the rule is more gas on the fire.
Take your ingrained belief that you will always get the benefit, and head to Seattle.
Remember what happened there? That ONE call where the Pack got screwed? GASP!
The GB faithful handled that well, tho, didn't they? [&:][&:][&:]

We didn't handle it well because the NFL admitted the replacement scabs blew it. Of course Viking fans always handle
being screwed by the refs well. Witness 1975.

Metropolitan Stadium went silent, then debris began to rain down on the field. Krause and Wright complained to field judge Armen Terzian that a pass interference penalty on Pearson should have been called. An orange, thrown by a spectator in the stands, whizzed by Pearson at the goal line. The orange is visible on NFL Films footage of the play and was initially confused by some as a penalty flag and was also misinterpreted by some players on the Vikings defense as a penalty. More debris was thrown from the stands by angry Vikings fans, enraged that no penalty was called on Dallas.
Defensive tackle Alan Page argued vigorously with officials and was assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the ensuing kickoff. On Minnesota's next possession with 14 seconds left to play, on second down at their own 10-yard line, a full Jack Daniel's whiskey bottle was thrown by a spectator. The bottle struck field judge Terzian in the head, creating a large forehead gash and rendering him unconscious. Cowboys strong safety Charlie Waters, who was in the Dallas huddle standing very close to Terzian, recounted that he thought the official had been shot. Terzian had to wear a compression bandage as he walked off the field; the wound caused a concussion and required 11 stitches. Terzian was replaced by substitute official Charley Musser for the final two plays

It was the right call based on the NFL's interpretation of the play. I knew instantly that it would be reversed one way or another.

Simply amazed by the differences in the levels of football
And really, any sport, right now.
At lower levels, how many "stars" do you see banged up, knocked out, or unable to perform?
It's common at the pro level of sports. Constantly pulling or tweaking or breaking something.
You watch a couple games at say, the level where The Bison just won their fourth straight national title.
Their QB, heck EVERY QB at that level .... Gets drilled time after time after time. And always gets up. And always plays.
And I get the whole size and speed thing. It just seems weird to me.
You get conditioned to see (at the higher levels) guys take a hit, and you expect the worst.
Baseball and basketball are even worse. Guy ran hard to first base? Oh my, he will be out for a month. It's just weird.
And probably not provable one way or another. But it seems so evident to me.

After about 39 years of intense psychotherapy, most here (including yours truly) had successfully blocked from their minds perhaps the worst play in Vikings history.

Only to have Kerry bring it back up.

I vote to tar and feather Kerry and/or ban him from the forum.

Trekgeekscott -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 12:45:51 PM)

I am dying to see a Luck/Wilson Superbowl.

Watching the inevitable "who's better" debate between JC and the Luck lovers in the Vikings threads will be highly entertaining.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 1:00:13 PM)

So Peyton may have played w/torn quad?

Oooo, sounds like a hidden injury disclosure.

Fine the Broncos.

To me, he looked like a guy w/little left in the tank. Had been that way for some time. The "injury" when he got bumped that one game was the start of the "invincibility" coming off.

Although, 9 1 and done in the playoffs helps that too [:D]

That's what you'll probably see. I'm no rose colored glasses homer. If Wilson runs for less than 100 I'd be shocked.

djskillz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 1:42:15 PM)

Lots of talk around here that Peyton may hang it up now so he can get a team in a small window in "his" state of Tennesee. As Tommy Smith figures to sell soon. Would make a ton of sense. He'd be hugely, hugely popular and could start his next chapter right away. And Peyton's presence would go a long way towards them getting a new stadium or major stadium renovations soon. A lot of people think that if he ever decides to get into politics, he'll be Governor of TN one day.

djskillz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 1:43:12 PM)

Who wins tonight?

I guess I'm rooting for Oregon, but I think it'll be a great game, and I think it'd be tough for me to bet against the physicality of Ohio State and a guy who's in the argument for the best coach ever in Urban Meyer. Should be a great game.

A lot of talk that Cardale may go pro with a good game. And if he has one (win or lose) he probably should.

Sunday, on facebook, from Murf

Ohio State drunk guy in Dallas just told me he thinks Oregon is good enough to keep the game close. Ok, cool, thanks.
Lots of Ohio State rustnecks here. Really pretty annoying.

I'm all in for the DUCKS

I'll be rooting for Oregon too. Can't stand Urban Meyer. He quit Florida to spend more time with his family. Right. [&o]

is there any head coach at any major athletic program (collegiate or pros) that actually puts family before their job?

Wait.....the Steve Martin character in the movie, Cheaper by the Dozen.....he quits his job for his family.[;)]

Another reason I hate Meyer:

In recent years, though, another number has been affixed to the Meyer era. That number is 31, as in, at least 31 arrests of Florida’s football players from 2005 to 2010.

Many of the charges were typical of college campuses: under-age drinking, disorderly conduct, violations of open-container laws. But other, more serious charges included aggravated stalking, domestic violence by strangulation, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and fraudulent use of credit cards, according to criminal record databases. Most of the cases never went to trial, the charges having been dropped or pleaded down.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 4:44:09 PM)

John Elway reigns, expects more than 1 and done

RT @AdamSchefter: John Fox and Broncos mutually agreed to part ways.

djskillz -> RE: Vikes talk for Twins fans (1/12/2015 5:26:20 PM)

Meyer actually quit because he almost killed himself from stress. Can't fault him for that IMO.

I can see the "problem players" argument though. But I have immense respect for him as a coach and genuinely think he's a good guy. He and Saban are the best two coaches in the history of the game to me, and head and shoulders above everyone else right now IMO. And I got to see both of them as class acts first hand last year at an event that changed any negatives I had on either one. Both genuinely love what they do and are true ambassadors for the game.
