Revere in 36 games has hit .268 with a .284 on-base percentage. He's walked three times in 142 plate appearances -- that 2.1 percent walk rate ties him for dead last in the majors with Jean Segura and Khris Davis of the Brewers.

Over his last 13 games, Revere has a .196 OBP in nearly 50 plate appearances, all out of the leadoff spot.

Which invites this question: Is he even an everyday player?

Right now, the answer appears to be no. And it's not just because of a bad 13-game stretch. It's because Revere is a below-average defender and has absolutely zero power. When he's not timing the ball and hitting singles, he doesn't do anything else well enough to make up for it.

Revere has no home runs in 1,542 career trips to the plate. No player since 1947 has finished a career with as many PAs as Revere and no homers.

The lack of homers is one thing. But Revere rarely hits a ball down the line or to the gaps with authority. Revere has just two extra-base hits this season and 14 in 478 plate appearances as a Phillie.

I got a kick out of the comments. Phillies fans hate Revere.

Cannot believe this place didn't blow up today with Butera news!

Dru pitched a perfect inning last night, eleven pitches eight strikes, 1-2-3
He and his Dad have now combined for four scoreless innings pitched.

There's actual talk about making him a pitcher.
After all, he has always hit like one.

Pa cha ting!

Thanks, he's here all week, try the veal.[:D]

Nice to see other people realizing that speed and circus catches (because he took a horrific route to the ball) doesn't equal good defense.

Really, other than pinch runner, what role is there for him MLB?

He's not a good choice as a defensive replacement, because even if he makes the proper play in the field, he's not throwing anyone out at home or stopping anyone from taking an extra base.

David Levine -> RE: Former Twins News (5/16/2014 4:06:27 PM)

Heh, I posted that before clicking on the link and seeing the next part:

quote:

Defensively, Revere has excellent make-up speed -- which is why he is capable of making circus catches -- but he has mediocre to poor instincts and probably the weakest arm in baseball. Revere is incapable of throwing runners out at the plate, not because of a lack of effort, but because he simply has a weak arm. There have been countless examples in his brief tenure as a Phillie where he's caught a ball shallow enough to nab a runner, but he's always tested and the result is almost always the same.

Fun to see Morneau getting in on the fun for the Rockies.
Pretty sweet walk-off homer yesterday.
Good for him. He's a good dude.

That's why this thread could be rocking every day.
It was sad watching Torii last night ... On best team, having a blast.
Great for him. Typical for us.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 12:52:11 PM)

KC GM Dayton Moore said Thursday morning that Danny Valencia will be the club's primary third baseman while Mike Moustakas is in the minor leagues.
Moustakas was demoted to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday after batting .152/.223/.320 over his first 139 plate appearances.

Valencia has hit .305 with an .863 OPS in 228 plate appearances since the beginning of the 2013 season

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 12:56:07 PM)

Guess the Royals will have to live with Danny not being able to go to his right at 3rd Base. And not getting low enough on ground balls hit to him.

Defense, defense, defense.

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 12:58:55 PM)

More blasphemy. Putting offense ahead of defense.

--------------

Brett Lawrie will be spending more time at second base to make room for Juan Francisco in Toronto’s lineup.

“We’re better with him in there,” manager John Gibbons said.

Francisco will play third base against right-handed pitching, with Lawrie shifting over to second, where he played six games in 2013.

The Blue Jays are willing to lose defense at third to get Francisco’s bat into the lineup regularly.

“He’s not going to make the plays Brett makes down there, but a lot of guys can’t do that,” Gibbons said.

Valencia has hit .305 with an .863 OPS since escaping the grand tutelage of the MN Twins brilliant coaching geniuses.

Mostly because other teams are smart enough to know he can't hit righties, but crushes lefties. Could have worked in a platoon here, but we don't believe in those things.

Just think how awesome the Twins would be if they'd kept Val,and Plouffe was a corner OF, with Bruno/Molitor helping? [:D]

Jays

Liam Hendriks will be called up to start on Friday versus the Athletics

Stacey King -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 6:43:33 PM)

Hendriks earned the promotion after posting a 1.48 ERA and 36/3 K/BB ratio over 48 2/3 frames at Triple-A Buffalo this season.

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 8:07:22 PM)

I'm gonna try picking him up in fantasy baseball.

Still waiting on Taveras. What the hell is the holdup?

twinsfan -> RE: Former Twins News (5/22/2014 8:22:11 PM)

Scott Baker starts tomorrow for the Rangers.

Hendriks and Baker.

Big night for me.

Dave E -> RE: Former Twins News (5/23/2014 8:55:58 AM)

Who'd we put on the roster when we dropped Hendriks? He might never get it in the bigs, but I'm pretty sure the person we added sucks. Dumb move.

It was to save Eric Fryer.

Phil Hughes was signed. Someone had to go off the 40.
