Listened to an interview of the Chattanooga play-by-play guy today. He said Buxton has a couple weaknesses. One is his arm isn't that great. The other is he lacks self-confidence.

Buxton's profile didn't take any steps back -- nor should it have, given the freak nature of his injuries last season -- as both players earned 70 overall grades. If there's any tiebreaker, it might be that Buxton got above-average 60 grades or better on each of his five tools

Guess those scouts disagree with the announcer.

Could move on ahead of Reed and Burdi with a couple of good months

#MNTwins assistant GM Rob Antony has been watching @ChattLookouts in recent days.

Chargois reportedly hit 100 mph 3 times last night.

Burdi's our 4th best relief prospect on that team IMO, behind Jones/Chargois/Reed, in that order.

I'll be at tomorrow's game.

The announcer's an idiot. Buxton has a GREAT arm. One of the best there is. The first time I saw him play, in one game, he threw 2 guys out, 1 at 3b, and 1 at home on a sac fly attempt from deep center field. Was one of the best throws I'd ever seen. He caught the ball in deep center field and the guy at 3rd didn't even have a chance to slide. Was tagged standing up 5-10 feet in front of HP.

Remember, this is a guy that a few organizations wanted to pitch; throws upper 90's. And a guy that is said to be able to throw a football 82 yards (SI article when he was drafted). The announcer should hang it up.

Buxton's weakesses right now are:

Plate discipline; and that was fantastic until the injuries. I believe he'll come around; just rust.
Power; he's got solid power, but that will grow more as he develops more physically.

Minnesota Twins: Stephen Gonsalves Joins Kohl Stewart in Fort Meyers
by Brennen Rupp

The Minnesota Twins promoted their number 11 rated prospect, Stephen Gonsalves to Class A Advanced Fort Meyers. The left-handed starting pitcher had spent the first two months of the season with Class A Cedar Rapids.

Gonsalves was 6-1 with a 1.15 earned run average in nine starts for the Kernels. Last night he had a no-hitter going in the seventh inning. He finished the game with 11 strikeouts and gave up just two hits. It was his second straight game with ten or more strikeouts.

In his last three starts Gonsalves pitched 19 innings, giving up zero runs, six hits and 30 strikeouts. He has given up just seven earned runs on the season. His 77 strikeouts have him tied for the minor league lead.

Gonsalves will join the Twins number six prospect, Kohl Stewart in Fort Meyers. Stewart is 1-3 with a 3.49 earned run average for the Miracle.

That gives the Miracle an impressive starting rotation of Stewart, Gonsalves, Aaron Slegers and Chih-Wei Hu. That’s three (Stewart, Gonsalves, Hu) of the top 30 prospects for the Twins pitching for the Miracle. Slegers, who isn’t listed among the Twins top 30 prospects by MLB.com, is fresh off being named the Twins minor league player of the week.

Twins fans have had to watch some pretty horrendous starting pitching the past couple of seasons. This season it’s been much better. With a stash of talented young arms down on the farm it would appear even better days are on the horizon. If you happen to live in the Forty Meyers area, I advise you to go check out these talented young pitchers.

Let's keep our fingers crossed as he moves up the chain that they unearthed a pitcher for the future.

Gonsalves mostly carved up MWL hitters with 90-92 mph fastball and solid-average change he commands well. Breaking pitches work in progress.

Interested to see how he progresses. Kind of profile that works better in lower Minors, but 12.6 K/9 in MWL is hard to ignore

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/3/2015 10:19:32 AM)

Chattanooga playing today. Sano out of the lineup. Left after irritating jammed finger.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/3/2015 11:36:36 AM)

Oswaldo Arcia still hitless on his rehab stint (0-for-11, one walk and two sac flies)

Dustin watching Chattanooga

The good: Kepler double #15 in 3 run inning

The bad: Berrios coughed up 5 the next inning, including a 3 R HR.

3. Swim 1B

8. Walker 2B

THey're middling around .500

IMO

Garver and Swim the only 2 with a real shot at the bigs. This is not a very good hitting team.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/3/2015 3:20:48 PM)

My fear is that the last couple of drafts have been mediocre overall. and there will be a talent drought due to this group, and the CRapids team, which currently lacks a number of realistic MLB prospects in the field.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (6/3/2015 3:41:02 PM)

@CRKernels lineup: English 8/Schmit 6/Larson 7/Fernandez 3/White 5/Kelly 4/Real DH/Navarreto 2/Corcino 9/Jorge 1

Outside Gordon, not much here either. Larson is already in his 4th year I think. English has speed, a slappy guy. Kelly and Fernandez might have an outside shot as every day players/subs.

Again, lots of crappy offensive numbers.

Outside shot for Goodrum, but yep. Bad squad.

Agree. We need depth for this 6-8 year run of contention that is coming. Need to have a good int'l signing period this year and draft.
