i think bremer and smalley were talking 2 games ago that Rochester hitting coach Chad Allen has buxton incorporating a leg kick into his approach.

pretty big deal if true. that is a major change.

caught the end of it, sure they were talking about byron.

They were....Smalley was giddy about the leg lift. Said that Buxton needs that to keep back on the ball......said it would be huge in getting him to make more contact and cut down on his strikeouts. Bruno is working with Allen on helping Buxton.

These are things really hard to change at the big league level but can be address in the minors.

Still look for Buxton to have a major impact before this season is done.

Did Chad Allen ever hit as well as Buxton did in the low minors? It's weird that Buxton's approach has worked well at every level of the minors, including some success at AAA. Not sure I'd be messing with it. He hasn't really had enough plate appearances in the majors to judge much yet. Although it's obviously concerning the rate at which he was striking out. Not sure how the leg kick will help in that regard, but I suppose it is meant to improve his timing. He has enough pop without a leg kick. Again, the swing change this far in is a bit concerning. He became the #1 prospect in baseball PARTIALLY because of his hitting. To go back to Square One is risky.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/12/2016 10:20:04 AM)

Yep, Smalley used Kirby as the comparison. After having 17 extra base hits as a rookie and 46 in year 2, Oliva worked with him to incorporate the leg kick to keep his weight back and allow him to drive the ball. The one thing that is undeniable in watching Buxton up here is that he has phenomenal bat speed. Hopefully the all out focus in AAA is to refine his approach to where he can get the most out it.

That's why you're the expert and I'm not.

Smalley is the expert. I'm just regurgitating what he said.

MDK -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/12/2016 10:42:35 AM)

I like a leg kick....not an exaggerated one but a small one. Kinda like the waggle in golf. I have never understood how you can hit w/o moving your front foot forward.

Byron Buxton's last 44 PA's at Triple-A have included only 6 strikeouts with 5 walks, 3 doubles, and 3 home runs

With leg kick or without? Or a mixture?

You know me. I don't want anything that could be construed as a contradiction.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/12/2016 1:01:36 PM)

Roch playing a day-game, Buxton and Kepler combo'd for the first run for Roch in the first.

Single up the middle
Balk
Ground out
RBI Single

Then Vargas drew another walk, but the inning ended in a double play.

I think it's fair to say our AAA team is better than our MLB team.

And hopefully the leg kick includes a kick to his ass because he needed that as well.

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/12/2016 1:37:52 PM)

Why? I wasn't aware that there was anything lacking in his work ethic or preparation.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (5/12/2016 1:38:25 PM)

Buxton 2-2, with an infield single 2nd timeup, stole second, but did not score.

Current average is .329

Alex Meyer had some shoulder fatigue and is skipping a start.

I think he's got a bright future in this game.

Looks like that HR was off of Red Sox stud Eduardo Rodriguez too
