Alex Kirilloff (@AKirilloff19) has played 100 games in 2018. He is hitting .350 with 34 doubles, seven triples, 16 home runs and 84 RBI between Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers.

All that after missing last year.

AA next year please.

AA should happen this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing him with a Sept call up to get his feet wet.

No reason he can't begin next season at AA and make the jump to the majors.

We used to do that with real talent.

Ok. I am a little shaky on the September call up rules. Doesn't the player called up in September already have to be on the 40 man roster? Is Kiriloff on the 40 man roster (I don't think so). So they would have to kick somebody off the 40 man to get this kid's feet wet. Not that there aren't several good candidates for being kicked to the curb, but don't see this happening. AA to finish the season would be a good step. He's earned it.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/2/2018 11:37:15 AM)

#MNTwins relief prospect Cody Stashak has been awesome for Chattanooga. Here's where he ranks among SL pitchers with at least 40 IP:

K/9: 2nd (12.37)
K%: 2nd (34.5)
K-BB%: 1st (27.0)
xFIP: 2nd (2.89)
Whiff%: 4th (16.2)

Yes, they do have be on the 40 man. Technically, in September, you are free to call up your entire 40 man roster.

Motter has been raking at AAA.

If you consider .161 over the last 10 games raking.
He has now gotten 1 hit in 5 of last 6, counting today's leadoff double.

Unfortunately he couldn't stop eating - kind of like a certain someone on the team now.

Back in the day when starting pitchers regularly threw nine innings, it was very common to hear "a six or seven hitter". I remember a game vs. the White Sox where Jim Kaat threw a nine inning game in Chicago where he gave up 13 hits but had something like four GIDP behind him and 11-12 runners left on base. I recall the score was something like Twins 9 and White Sox 3. That was back when a starting pitcher got an early lead of four or five runs (which was the case in that game) and they were EXPECTED to pitch nine innings no matter what. Kaat did not have his best stuff that day but he got a lot of ground ball outs and a few K's with runners on base. That is also when you went to the ballpark to watch a pitcher toss the game. That was the feature. Short starts were few and far between and the rotation was four starters. They would use a long relief guy or a AAA guy brought up to pitch the scheduled DH of which there were usually two or three at home and two or three away each season, sometimes more if they had frequent rain outs. The thing cool about scheduled DH games is concessions were also discounted so you could buy food and drink for both games and not wear a hole in your pocket. That is when baseball was just plain fun. Younger guys like Matt have no idea what they missed 40-50 years ago.

Jeffers has just been ridiculously good hitting so far. He was rated way, way, way lower than where we took him. Maybe the Twins Scouting department was smarter than Baseball America etc.. on this occasion.

Seriously??????
You are way off base. An overrated player of the era was Don Mattingly. Hrbek, not Mattingly should have won those gold gloves. Hrbek did not make defensive mental errors. Nobody went behind 1st base and made catches with his back to home plate like Hrbek. Look at Hrbek stats compared to Mattingly and most clueless fans think Donnie baseball should be in the hall. Hrbek's problem was off season conditioning or lack thereof. But rarely has there been a ballplayer with his natural baseball accuman.

I still haven't heard anything about his catching, but the hitting is amazing just like it was in college. Here is the reaction when the pick was made and it wasn't kind.
