CPAMAN -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/22/2018 4:37:40 PM)

Gladden mentioned during the game today that he expected Buxton back with the team in September. In fact, he commented that "some of these guys will lose playing time and AB because Buxton is likely to be playing every day when he returns". So contrary to what a few of us thought, it appears the Twins will not choose to withhold Buxton from additional playing time this season in order to keep control of his contract an additional season. I would assume that Gladden is told not to speak freely about this kind of stuff so I would expect that hearing it from him is similar as if it were announced by Derek Falvey or Thad Levine.

Falvey and Levine seem like the types that would keep Gladden out of the loop.

Improvement.
All you can ask for

RHP Brusdar Graterol has a 2.22 ERA in August (24.1 IP) after 5.19 ERA in his 1st 5 starts for @MiracleBaseball. Has still allowed just 3 HR all year -- 2 of them on 5/26 for @CRKernels.

AL pro scout on Brusdar Graterol, whose K/9 has sagged to 8.23 at Fort Myers (well below his career mark of 10.03 in 142.2 IP):

"It's all going to be about the slider. He throws a hundred, but it's not a 'scary' hundred. He's around the zone so much."

All 2-seamers though.

2019-20: C Jason Castro, SP Ervin Santana, SP Jake Odorizzi, SP Kyle Gibson, SP Michael Pineda, RP Addison Reed, DH Logan Morrison
2020-21: RP Trevor May

Notes
The Minnesota Twins have taken a disappointing step backward this season after a surprise run to the AL Wild Card Game last year, but the future is still incredibly bright. They have a nice mix of established MLB talent that's under team control—guys like Eddie Rosario and Jose Berrios—and top prospects with star-caliber upside.
Royce Lewis shot up to No. 5 on our latest top 50 prospect rankings, and he could be the face of the franchise by 2021. Still just 19, he's hitting .306/.368/.479 with 29 doubles, 14 home runs, 74 RBI and 28 stolen bases between High-A and Double-A, and it looks like bright days are ahead for the former No. 1 overall pick.
Brusdar Graterol and Fernando Romero have the stuff to develop into front-line arms alongside Berrios, while Alex Kirilloff and Brent Rooker could make a huge impact offensively in short order. There's a ton of upside in Minnesota, but there's also a lot riding on unproven talent, so it's tough to rank them any higher.

I'm thinking Jeffers will be the catcher instead of Garver and Larnach will be the DH over Kepler and somebody else will be the 2b over Gordon. Somebody/anybody the closer over Hindenburg.

Thoughts on the Red Sox scrapping their Pawtucket, RI Triple-A team in favor of a new stadium in Worcester, MA? Will Pawtucket lose a team in the International League? Or will this create a chain-reaction, and another org will move into Pawtucket? Or won't the Red Sox allow that since Pawtucket is close to Boston and Worcester? Could another org thrive in Pawtucket? Or no, because they are all Boston Red Sox fans?

Guessing that there is some territorial issue that won't allow another team there.

Another money-hungry grab. Nice.

Of course, that's all based on in-house players and we all know that won't be the roster.

The Pohlads pray it would be, would be very cheap.

I agree Jeffers is going to HOPEFULLY be sped up the system. There really isn't anyone in the way.

Grzelakowski has emerged at FTM after a FA signing, but I don't know what the defense is like. Has been hitting in the top 3 spots, was recently moved to leadoff to try and take some heat off Lewis.

That will kill the city of Pawtucket. Will probably have to join an independent league.

Nice.

That will kill the city of Pawtucket. Will probably have to join an independent league.

Maybe they can get a AA team there, but not likely AAA.

Will still be 3 more years. Gives Rhode Island plenty of time to work on a new team.
