Sunday

Roch lost 7-3

They tried Bray as a starter/bullpen game, and he gave up 4 runs.
Romero came in 2 IP BB/3k. Encouraging

Lifer Willin Rosario 3 hits including his 16th HR. In the old regime, he'd be getting a callup.

FTM lost 8-7

MLB.coms minor league system rankings

8. Minnesota Twins
Preseason Top 10 Rank: No. 8
Top 100 Prospects (5): SS Royce Lewis (No. 7), OF Alex Kirilloff (No. 16), RHP Brusdar Graterol (No. 58), RHP Jordan Balazovic (No. 82), OF Trevor Larnach (No. 97)
Prospects Points (MLB rank): 245 (7th)
This system would look better if Lewis and Kirilloff were repeating their monster 2018 seasons and Graterol wasn't dealing with a shoulder impingement. Their talent remains undeniable, however, and the Twins have gotten breakthroughs from Graterol and right-hander Jhoan Duran. Twins Top 30 Prospects list ยป

One of the worst 1st round picks in Twins history. Considering how high our selection was that year, he may very well be the worst.

If you consider some of the pitchers chosen over the past ten years in the draft, you can see the complete "system failure" with respect to drafting top notch pitchers that SHOULD be part of the rotation RIGHT NOW! The draft should have provided at least two more pitchers at least or better quality than Berrios. Further, there should also be a couple of additional quality BP arms now pitching for the Twins who were failed starters. This is why the Twins are so far behind the Indians with respect to the pitching staffs.

back then the twins were not drafting for pure talent.

They wanted guys that would sign cheap and would pitch to contact.

Another bitter reminder of the Terry Ryan/Ron Gardenstupid era.

2013 MLB draft

# of first round pitchers currently in the bigs

ONE: Jon Gray (picked just ahead of Stewart)

Sean Manea of Oakland was a competitive round pick

Position players

Hunter Dozier
Aaron Judge(compensatory round)
Tim Anderson
Hunter Renfroe
Kris Bryant
Clint Frazier

This was the Mark Appel Draft. Considering Stewart has even pitched in the bigs the Twins did WELL compared to other teams.

Berrios was the 32nd pick.Buxton was picked 2nd that year. Good draft.

These blanket statements just kill me. Are you just out to bait people with broad stroke Gas?

Yeah, the Twins should draft pitching better. You'd be better off with actual statements of truth than this.

The Twins had a pattern of college pitchers trying to fit as starters. THAT was an epic failure,

Mason Melotakis
Tyler Duffey
Luke Bard(now w/Angels)
JT Chargois
Zack Jones

All 2012 in the top 10

in 2013 in the top 10

Ryan Eades #2- still in AAA, 1 cup of coffee in 2019
Gonsalves
Aaron Slegers
Brian Gilbert
CK Irby

Garver was a 9th round pick that year.

Just those 2 years, you see how poorly they DEVELOPED players

and they're not alone, which is why most teams outside the Dodgers and Astros are constantly shuffling pitching.

The management changed, the philosophy changed. W/O trading for help, developing it like this is like watching a snail in a 100 meter race: Slow and painful.

And yep, we're seeing the results. A bunch of nobodies and has-beens paraded through MN year after year.

Nope, about two months ago I posted all of the pitchers the Twins have drafted over the last 15 seasons or so. It is truly amazing how few ever evolved into anything as far as a ML career. You picked a couple years where the Twins did not fare quite as badly. But there have been many seasons where the draft was a complete bust with respect to pitchers. And it is not particularly encouraging right now despite Failvine presumably "loading" our farm system with prospects. What is truly amazing is the number of pitchers the Twins parade through every season with the ultimate DFA tag. This year, the DFA was used at a premium. What seems to be the most troubling occurrence is the Twins prospects topping out at the AAA or mythical AAAA level. Players that go up and down between the Twins and Rochester, that look like a can't miss thing on the mound until they enter a game in a Twins uniform. Some of this HAS to be on poor coaching, there can be no other logical explanation.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/12/2019 4:52:53 PM)

I picked the 2 seasons of the guys you mentioned, Berrios and Stewart.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/12/2019 6:32:41 PM)

Roch/Pensacola off

FTM Rained out

Eliz up 4-1

Wallner has his 17th double, Phillips(27th round pick 1B) has his 5th HR at Eliz (3 run shot)

Andriu Marin, 21 year old Venezuelan pitcher, has 7 strikeouts in 3,2IP

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/12/2019 8:17:49 PM)

Eliz won 4-2

Marin gave up 1 UER in 6IP struck out 11, with no walks. Had been shaky at best with a high era, but decent K/IP numbers to this point.

No walks tonight, so his numbers in that area aren't all bad: 39IP 18BB/60K

TJSweens -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/13/2019 9:05:38 AM)

I just checked up on the prospect I love to hate, Charlie Barnes. What a bazaar season.

A 6.51 ERA in 8 starts at A+, for some reason, earned him a promotion to AA.
He then had a 2.96 ERA in a dozen starts for the Blue Wahoos. On to AAA.
Got 6 kinds of dog manure kicked out him in his debut with the Red Wings.

Maybe AA hitters are his sweet spot.

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/13/2019 9:53:32 AM)

Yeah I post about that AAA start in game day
And left out the . In 4.1 innings
Which was quickly pointed out [:o]

Mr. Ed -> RE: Players and prospects III (8/13/2019 9:55:08 AM)

I think some of these college guys are being pushed to show what they have
And in the next year they will be fodder for other teams

This year has been very aggressive
I approve

I like that too. The past regime did way too much coddling. When you see the way Cleveland ALWAYS seems to produce pitching, it's not hard to understand why Falvey wants to emulate what they do to such a high degree.
