djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 10:02:18 AM)

Pending more switches in affiliates (I haven't been completely in the loop), the Twins' AA divisional opponents will be:

Tennessee Smokies (Cubs: awesome farm system)
Jackson Generals (Seattle: decent farm system)
Birmingham Barons (White Sox: awful farm system)
Huntsville Stars (soon to be Biloxi probably) (Milwaukee: awful farm system)

And the other division is:
Jacksonville Suns (Miami: very good farm system)
Mississippi Braves (Atlanta: good farm system)
Mobile Bay Bears (AZ: decent farm system)
Montgomery Sea Biscuits (TB: good farm system)
Pensacola Blue Wahoos (CIN: awful farm system)

What's exciting for me is that we are sponsors for almost all of these teams now, possibly all of them by the start of next year, and for the most part they're all very close to Nashville (a few hours or less). Yahtzee! I bet I'll see 20+ Lookouts games next year between different affiliates easy.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 10:09:25 AM)

Dodgers going to Tulsa. I think Colorado's AA is still up in the air. There's been talk about their AAA moving from CO Springs due to organizational issues, which is ridiculous.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 10:11:36 AM)

Colorado is indeed moving to AAA Albuquerque, after the Dodgers left for Oklahoma City.

Likely scenarios:

AAA:
CO to Albuquerque
Houston to CO Springs
Milwaukee to Fresno
SF to Sacramento
Oakland to Nashville
Dodgers to OKC

AA:
MN to Chattanooga
Dodgers to Tulsa
Leaves NB/Mobile with D'Backs and Rockies as possibilities

Per usual, lots of changes coming in A, A+.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 10:19:42 AM)

Twins' affiliates:

Rochester: signed through 2016
Chattanooga: We'll know today
Fort Myers: signed through 2018
Cedar Rapids: signed through 2020

Chattanooga!? Sweet. I can take in a game when my wife and I go down there to visit her brother.

Arby's smokes their brisket for 13 hours, so what's the big deal about Hillbilly Willy's?

Best ribs I ever had.

Just making a suggestion to someone planning to go to Chattanooga.

They go that extra mile and smoke it for that all important 14th hour!

Yep, Arby's would go broke if they smoked them that extra hour. Hillbilly Willy's, they charge premium for the extra hour. Their 13 hour ribs are their discount ribs.

Similar to the difference between Prime and Choice.

Dave E -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 1:41:03 PM)

Chattanooga confirmed for four years.

NB signed with the Rockies.

djskillz -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 3:40:28 PM)

I prefer "Sticky Fingers" BBQ in Chattanooga, but that is good, Scott.

Looks like Mobile gets Arizona as the last man standing. Congrats?

Awesome on a 4 year deal. I will be there quite often. Wonder if Buxton will start there next year. I'd bet so because that's pretty close to where he's from.

wethrock -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/17/2014 10:50:44 PM)

Rochester is probably a 5 or 6 hr. drive from here - too long. Pawtucket is a difficult 2 hour drive; I used to go there occasionally. I'll do it next year (if Buxton gets to AAA). As I said before, cannot blame Twins for pulling out of NB, with uncertain future and what is basically a dishonest owner.

Stacey King -> RE: Players and prospects III (9/18/2014 9:40:45 AM)

Hmmm

Jim Crikket had an interesting observation on Twitter. As part of a reshuffling of Triple A affiliations, the Oakland Athletics were displaced in Sacramento and wound up in Nashville, which is not a particularly attractive geographic fit for a California franchise. That affiliation (like the Twins renewal in Rochester) expires in two years. Crikket suggests that Nashville might be an attractive destination for the Twins' Triple A affilation after 2016; having the Triple A and Double A teams in the same state (Tennessee) could be quite handy.

Which would make a ton of sense.

Playing in some of those bandboxes wouldn't but the logistics of AA/AAA? would be very nice.

Johnny Cash's tribute to the Chattanooga City Limit sign

And of course, the Chattanooga classic originally recorded by Glen Miller

And lyrics in the recording by the Andrew Sisters

And while we are at it.........Sing Sing Sing by the Benny Goodman Orchestra.......I wonder if Gene Kupra was on the drums.

I love swing.........

Sign me up! Even Ft. Myers and Cedar Rapids would both be easy trips from Nashville. Hell, everything's close to Nashville. As central as just about any place in the country. Though I'd be leery of the Twins' prospects working through the newer Nashville ownership; they're a bunch of cheap bastards that know about as much baseball as Gardy. Real estate guys from NY.

Those last couple meaningless wins likely cost us Aiken, who I'd expect to go at 3 or 4. Sucks.

Well, he's not going 2 or 5, that's for sure.

We passed that Astros. Didn't think it was possible, and I know it's not a good thing.

They actually had the same record but the Astros get the higher pick since they had a worse record last year.
