Sloter is a nobody. One year of college at a small school. 72 rushes for 32 yards, a 0.4 average. This from a converted WR. A 'rush' once for every 4-5 pass attempts. I'm thinking he couldn't make anything happen 72 times that year and did the Bradford curl albeit with some relative athleticism. Maybe the TJack jump pass.
One game in an exhibition game then was cut... to make room for who is anybody's guess.
Find a Keenum II type!
He's a project. He played in all four exhibition games.
As to his "rushing stats" - sacks count against your rushing totals in college.
I think he showed some potential, but judge for yourself;
Yeah have a few friends in Denver, they were beside themselves that Elway waived Sloter.
Said he was the best QB on their squad. Not close.
Vikes had to out bid numerous other teams to get Sloter, and then pay him an obscene amount just to practice squad him (Probably the highest paid practice squader ever)
All that being said, he’s simply a great guy to POSSIBLY develop.
Same here, knowledgeable friends in Denver.
Not really fair to say he played one year of QB in College without als ,saying he played three years of WR, speaks to the athleticism.
I just have a good feeling.
We need a break or lightning strike at QB. We’re due for that.
Living in Denver, imo there is truth to both sides. Paxton Lynch was hurt in pre-season, but wasn't hurt bad enough to go on IR (only supposed to miss a 2-4 games). Elway did not want to go into the season with Siemian and only Sloter as the back-up. He signed Oswieller because he knew the system, was cheap (Browns paying all but league minimum). That left roster issues. Couldn't IR Lynch. It was cut Lynch a 1st rounder/Sloter or carry 4 QBs. He cut Sloter and tried to re-sign him. My understanding, Broncos tried aggressively to keep him.
Sloter as WR caught 8 for 112 and 1 TD for his college career. I'm not sure how much that speak to his athleticism. I wouldn't say it discounts it but....
From what I read/saw/heard he obviously has talent, but is very raw. Needs to refine mechanics. I also don't think anyone knows how well he reads defenses, decision making process, etc. The stuff that kills a lot of QB careers.
I loved that MN was this aggressive signing him. And they must see enough in him in meetings/practices/etc to keep him, had a chance to flip him for draft choices.
Be interesting to see how he develops, from where I'm sitting, he's a couple year project. I wouldn't feel comfortable going into a season with him as primary back-up
Agreed on all accounts.
FWIW I’d never heard of him before
One day my phone started blowing up with texts about how we stole their QBOTF from a few friends in Denver (One who use to play for the Broncos) people who’s opinion I respect.
Saw some film, he looks the part at least physically. A perfect developmental QB IMO. NO MORE NO LESS.
