Mauer 2-3 with 2 pulled singles.
Sano 1-3 double, now GIDP
I think people are getting in Mauer's ear with regard to pulling the baseball. He was raised by the Twins Way bullshit Tom Kelly rammed down young players throats while Joe was coming up through the ranks.
"Going the other way" was something they always preached. The teachings and preaching of Tom Kelly needs to be forgotten.
Everything you just said is wrong. Kelly never told anyone to hit everything the other way. He preached hands in, direct to the ball and driving the ball where it's pitched. Mauer has hit like this since high school. Kelly had nothing to do with it.
Oh Jesus Christ. Do I need to go find stuff and school you?
David Ortiz described it in his book. Todd Walker complained about it. When JJ Hardy went to the Orioles he was hitting everything the other way in batting practice until Jim Presley went up to him and asked him what the hell he was doing. That mindset was installed BY KELLY and Gardy just copied it.
YOu seem to romanticize about the Tom Kelly days early on in his tenure. He was a bastard toward the end. A curmudgeon who got more credit than he deserved. We had a lot of young talent coming up at once. You would think that Kelly would have been all in riding this wave of young players who were coming into his own. He wasn't fired he just stepped away because he couldn't handle it anymore. Burnt out at the age of 51. Shit, he was actually younger than am I now during that 2001 season and he looked like he a constipated old man by the end of that season.
This is all I am going to say to you about him. We TOTALLY DISAGREE on what he means to the this organization. I think RIGHT NOW Tom Kelly needs to stay out of Twins affairs. Maybe put him in a golf cart once a twice a year and let him wave to people. That's about it. He isn't even 70 years old but he acts like he's going on 90
Your both as full of shit as Ortiz. Of course he said that in his book. Did you expect him to honest and admit he started juicing with Boston. Walker? Funny he had his best year playing for Kelly. There nothing romanticized here. TK was a good managernplain and simple. This about the stupid notion that he tried to keep people from hitting home runs. He had teams that hit an awful lot home runs for him preaching that philosophy.
If you guys are just throwing out bait, good one. You got me to bite. Otherwise, you flat out don't know what you are talking about.
When you have good players that aren’t particularly good leaders, their coaches or managers will say that they “lead by example.” It’s a polite way of saying they don’t lead.
