Anyone else getting Blair Walsh flashbacks?

No, because this guy was money in the clutch at Auburn.

Hopefully he's an absolute horndog with no romantic notions.

I hear that ....

(My only comment for the Draft thread)

Ricky!!!!!!

Welcome back buddy...

I don't believe Tocho made the roster either. He was off and on the practice squad so he still belongs to the Vikings.

I was listening to KFAN today and one of guys with Kriesel today reported that Mike Hughes was the real deal. He said that he watched him practice during the mini-camp and there was sort of a buzz among the other players who seemed to be genuinely excited about the new guy who was going to play with them. Sorry, I don't which voice it was. Joe something. He's not a regular.

Paul Allen came on later and said he expects that Newman will be used more as safety. He also likes Aruna and Zylstra's chances of making the team.

He said that the new offensive coordinator will expand upon a "motion, movement and stretch" philosophy that we have seen to some extent in the past. I'm not sure what that means.

He said that Cousins does move really well while still looking down the field, which can help some of the deficiency of the offensive line. He has some hope that the offensive line could benefit with some second year players who can take a nice step forward.

He also said that this team has a chance to be "considerably better than 11-5" . With our schedule, I would take that, but whoa, if we do better than that than this team will truly be elite. He seems to think that the offense will take some time to develop and click.

The pass/ run option play is something that Cousins did experience at Michigan State. (I heard that at another part of the show.)

Cousins runs well. Not worried about his mobility. Not worried about our receiving group. Keep Cook healthy and with decent OL play we will be EXPLOSIVE!

Gossett had trouble sustaining blocks against talented competition from Georgia and is unlikely to be ready to face off against NFL competitors. Gossett's NFL-ready frame will appeal to power teams who may look to stash him on a practice squad early on while they work on his technique to unleash more power at the point of attack.

Lance Zierlein

We picked a K in rd 5 when we could have got a much better G/C in Scott Quesenberry

We can get Quessenberry now.

Also, G Dorian Johnson(a few posters wanted him) available.

Here’s to hoping a CB doesn’t fall to us with a viable offensive line choice sitting there that GASP is ranked a few spots lower than our pit

No kidding...

Fn Zimmer needs to go back to being a DC, Spielman needs to go, period,
We need a head coach who understands that passing and running the ball are equally important, but that to be any good at either you need fricken beasts on the line who can at a minimum hold their own in a one on one situation.

Anthony Herrera was a nasty beast, Birk was a smart savvy beast, we have had a few off and on, but the team hasn’t even tried lately to address the issues of shitty , get blown past or bowled over, linemen.

I am fine if in the end Zimmer wins out and they are the run team he wants them to be...if they go all in and put the hogs on the line to get it done. Forcing it without things in place is freaking maddening.

Make some major moves and get the OL 80% of where it needs to be and have at it. We were 20% there this year and didn't have luck with depth.

I have no problem bringing Easton back on a minimal contract and letting him battle for a job.

But if he's penciled in as one of the "answers" at Guard, we're in big trouble.

Yes. Easton plus 3 new guards and 1 OT. At least 1 Top FA and 2 High Draft picks and then a developmental type.

We need at least one top tier FA and two draft picks along the line. And jettison some of the dead weight (i.e., Compton). There are going to be some very good guards in the draft, and one or two tackles that should be worth a look with our early picks.

Cody Ford, OT, Oklahoma is a guy I see going in the mid-first round of several mock drafts. He sounds like a guy the Vikings should be all over - 335 Lbs, with the athleticism and versatility to play OT (was moved from OG). I think we'll be reading a lot about him over the next few months.

SBNation: "18. Minnesota Vikings: Cody Ford, OL, Oklahoma
Minnesota’s offensive line is pretty not great. With the team committed to Kirk Cousins on a massive contract, it may as well try and help him with a better offensive lineman. Ford is a right tackle by trade, but he has the size and aggressive playing style to move inside if needed."

WalterFootball: "18. Philadelphia Eagles: Cody Ford, G, Oklahoma
Cody Ford is a 335-pound right tackle at Oklahoma who should move to guard at the next level. He has very good athleticism for his massive frame."

CBSSports: :18. Minnesota Vikings Cody Ford, OT, Oklahoma.
Is it too early for the Vikings to look for a quarterback? That was rhetorical, mostly becuase Kirk Cousins is one year into a three-year, $84 million -- all guaranteed -- deal. And since Cousins isn't going anywhere, Minnesota has to do a better job of protecting him. Ford excelled at tackle this season after moving over from guard."

Dalton Risner, OT, Kansas State has a similar profile to Cody Ford. Another guy to keep an eye on. (same links as above)

SBNation-
19. Tennessee Titans: Dalton Risner, OL, Kansas State
It was evident this season that the Titans needed help on the offensive line. If head coach Mike Vrabel takes a page out of mentor Bill Belichick’s playbook, he could look for a versatile lineman who he can slot into multiple positions in search of the best group. Risner is that player this year. He should go into the NFL capable of playing any position except center.

CBSSports-
27. Houston Texans: Dalton Risner, OT, Kansas St.
The Texans' offensive line ranks 23rd in run blocking. That's the good news. They're also 31st for pass protection, and when Deshaun Watson is your franchise quarterback, you have to protect him (he's been sacked 62 times this season so, yeah, not great). Risner's versatility makes him attractive to Houston; he's a mauler who played right tackle this season but could kick inside in the NFL if needed.

Give me a G who has excelled at G, not a T who "could" (i.e. who knows?) move to G. Yeah, there is the versatility thing, T is more valuable, yadda, yadda. But we have to shore up the interior so minimize the risks. Ford does sound intriguing though.

This assumes Rieff's cap hit is too high for him to be cut.

We are stuck with Reiff for a couple more seasons

What we really need is to aquire a top G. IDK how but when we were able to poison pill Sea and get Hutch it really helped upgrade the oline.

We're going to have to shed some salary first
