Awesome quick trip to Big D.
Weather was outstanding. Left -30 and walked around for three days in 70 above. Beautiful weather. We got lucky.
Best Wild trip yet in many areas ... best arena, best seats, easiest to get to things, everything within walking distance, helpful people, decent prices.
Worst effort by the Wild probably, but it was kinda expected.
Drank a LOT, had a lot of fun. Right back at work this morning, that's how we roll. Drive home from the Cities late last night was crappy, as usual.
All in all, losing the game was the only bummer.
American Airlines Arena is beautiful. Tons of room, tons of great sites, good amenities, nice people.
Tons of Wild-wearing fans. Tons of North Star-wearing fans. but by far the most passive fan base of anywhere we've been.
Bartenders 4-5 blocks from the rink had no idea how to get there. NOT joking. When we go to other cities for a game, people instantly know what you're there for and talk to you about it.
In Dallas, they just go "oh, that's nice" and then admit "I really don't know much about that place or that team"
Its like its on a tiny island. So that part was strange. I tried to stir up some crap, and no one took any bait. Matt would hate it there.
The fan base for them is passive and wide-eyed. They get all loud when the video board says GET LOUD. They sing and dance when their team scores. But most have no idea how many points a goal is worth.
The fan base with Wild and North Star gear on was quiet and braindead all night, probably because of the way the boys played. Thanks, Dubnyk. He was good, and kinda kept us in iut, right up until the time he didn't.
He's simply an irritating goalie. Good, until he's not. The squeaker he let thru was sad, probably the weakest shot of the night. And it just had to be to that puke Seguin.
The stands are full of gorgeous gals, EVERY one has a Seguin jersey because I guess he's a cutie, I was told. Gag me. And of course we had to make sure he got two, and looked even more manly to them.
I did like some things I saw in the Wild. Sad to know that Hunt immediately can become your 2nd best puck moving D man in a week.
The new guys played hard, and Greenway is the one constant threat for us. Everyone else just gets nothing done. Parise flies around and bothers like a gnat, but eventually just gets swatted away.
Anyway, a really nice weekend getaway.
Loved the JFK Tributes at the Depository, got pretty dusty in there for quite awhile. Amazing to see it pretty much as it was. you can just feel history there. Sad, sad, sad history. If ever we needed a man .......
Restaurants and bars were all pleasant surprises. Some felt like New Orleans, some felt like Mexico, some felt like Minnesota. Great food, great drinks, nice people.
We did high-end, we did low-end, we did dive bars, we tried em all, and none disappointed. Lucked out with a van driver for the ride from the airport, he showed us around like a tour guide, and that really helped.
Excited for next year. We're thinking Denver or San Jose, then for sure Seattle in a couple years.
I'll think of more stuff this week, thanks for the good thoughts. It was fun as hell.
