Something to piss us all off. Top 100 players ranking in the NFL. Harrison Smith at 75 and Stefon Diggs at 49. No Adam Thielen and no Danielle Hunter unless I missed them scrolling through.

Good. Maybe they will see that and will work harder.

Worse thing is to be anointed, whether it be players or the team. At any time unless holding the SB trophy.

These free agents must be getting itchy to sign and may go for a discounted price. I do believe the article is well written.

Any in particular you are interested in? I know the Vikings don't have a lot of money available, so I'm guessing that unless someone comes to camp with a new injury that is worrisome, I am not expecting any action. The nose tackle looks like the best bet for me, though.

https://thevikingage.com/2019/07/18/6-free-agents-still-help-minnesota-vikings-2019/

Not so much on the DT. Stephens and Johnson can play NT.

I'd be interested in the CB conditional to whether the Vikings got a good market offer for Waynes. Trade Waynes. Trade for Artie Burns @ 3M, sign the CB listed.

I hate the slide show on this site. Usually avoid as a result.

I don't know if Johnson or Stephens are true nose tackles. I prefer one page articles, too, but especially this time of years I am less picky because of the scarcity of available Vikings reading options.

There are some articles here, some profiles of individual players at the back of the roster. Every year I like to look at these kind of players because I'm kind of a Vikings junkie. So for me this was interesting, but I see other articles about the draft pick long snapper and Cornelius Edison. I haven't read those yet, but I will.

This is probably the best article to read for the next few days. Good stuff here about how Zimmer is making adjustments to his defense. It didn't work out well at the beginning of last season. Let's hope that he figured things out.

https://www.dailynorseman.com/2019/7/19/20686742/evolving-minnesota-vikings-defense-mike-zimmer

I think it's fairly basic stuff in terms of us - and 31 other teams - trying new things. The twist is the D has mostly played together for a while. A couple of guys are not spring chickens and/or oft injured. So how adaptable are they vs. say, a guy who is entering year three? I mean Zimmer is a guy who frets about a player lining up 4 inches from where he is supposed to. Maybe that partly answers why things didn't go well last year after his adjustments.

In short, I question whether you can be a system-type coach (line up here, get off my lawn!) but then expect your players to suddenly do new things well.

Pressure to live up to your expectations could be a good thing too. I suspect that Thielen and Hunter are very well motivated regardless of how high they may be or not be on somebody's list, though. Both of them seem to be highly self motivated, I believe.

Stephen.

Thanks for the correction. I thought maybe it was wrong, but I was too tired to check. Stephen should be in his prime and he has developed into a good player. He has his limitations, though, and regardless, I am hoping for more rotations. It might be interesting to rotate them based on their specialty. Stephen is really good at stopping the run and Hercules Mata'afa is supposed to be really good at getting to the quarterback. In a perfect world we would want a player who is good at everything, but he would command a really high price. Since it is a good idea anyway to rotate defensive players to keep them fresher throughout the game, it seems really intriguing to me that we have players that are good at certain specific qualities.

There seems to be a high level of talent at each position on the defense, with the possible exception of 3 technique (which I just talked about in the previous post) and that may be it. I mean, some here would question Waynes, but certainly we have another first round draft pick coming off an injury that hopefully will be getting better and better as the season unwinds and there is another suspended corner (for a few games) who showed promise. This is a really talented defense and for the most part they have been in this defense for awhile now and so they should really understand it and all its intricacies to the highest level. This should be a really special defense. If they are not we will all have the right to be extremely disappointed.

I don't know if Johnson or Stephens are true nose tackles

I always thought NT was the true position for Stephen but at 6'5" 310 he might be kind of a tweener for either DT position.

Coach Patterson seemed to think Stephen is fine at the 3T but he may have been referencing that as a rotational guy being Stephen doesn't have any pass rushing chops.

Unsure about Johnson but he is 6'3" 315. A little beefier than Stephens.

Joseph is 6'4" 323 but might be heavier now.

If its one position coach I trust - its Patterson.

Look at the draft capital used on other areas of the defense and compare it to DL.

Hunter - 3rd
Griffin - 4th
Weatherly - 7th
Joseph - FA (2nd round)
J Johnson - 3rd
Holmes - 4th
Maatafa - UDFA

You can add Stephen to the list. He was originally a seventh rounder for us. I wonder if any of the rookies from this year will wind up being studs. It just feels like defensive line is a position where you need a couple of years to grow into it- even for the high draft picks.

I just double checked if I missed an email from Wobby. I didn't, but I noticed that I missed his question to me a year ago. I invited him to log in here at talk vikes and he asked me how to do it.

I just sent a fresh response to him with a link. I'm hoping that he does follow up. I can't be sure he will. If so, it could be in a week or a month, though. I'm sure he's busy with a lot of email from many fans.

I did send a more recent email to him with a question that he has not responded to. It was several weeks ago, but I kind of figure he may actually have been on vacation like most of the other Vikings are at this time. But on that subject, don't the rookies report today? I have been focused on when the first padded practice will be. (Next Monday)

The Vikings signed offensive lineman Tiano Pupungatoa to take Roc Thomas‘ roster spot, the team announced Monday.

Pupungatoa was a three-year starter at guard for the Jackrabbits and earned third-team AP FCS All-America honors last season

Do they have smaller awards that don't come in ribbon form with a giant P for participation?

Still, must be pretty cool for the guy.

Paul Allen has repeatedly said on KFAN this offseason that he predicts #Vikings rookie DB Marcus Epps (6-0, 191) will make the final 53 because of his position flexibility (safety and CB).

He also believes Epps will back up Mackensie Alexander at nickel.

#Vikings RB coach Kennedy Polamalu said on the VEN that FB CJ Ham is a “perfect” fit for the team’s new offensive system.

“He’s also a 4-core team specialist,” said Polamalu. “Off the field [he’s a] great husband, great son. I just love that kid.”

I imagine the newest Viking had to tryout for the team, which is a plus for him. I'm also thinking that it may be an indication of the team being nervous about their selection of backup offensive linemen. I don't know. This player's best hope is to make the practice squad.

I'm sorry to see Roc Thomas go. Maybe he will catch on with another team, but I doubt it. He didn't even have a chance to prove his worth to the team.

Here's more info about our newest player. Interesting.

He probably blew it as he'll be far behind when he comes back from suspension. He didn't really have hold of a roster spot to begin with.

Right. He must have been waived because he wouldn't be serving the suspension until week one of the regular season.

A fringe player has no margin for error. This is on him.

He’d have fared better had he abused his children. Sadly.
