Ant becomes the youngest player with 500 3s. Outstanding.

In other notes, looks like Walker Kessler is going to be a player. Oh well. We didn’t need him.

Can we have a "do over" and get Buford/Pop on the phone?

What a great draft pick. Already my favorite player.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say Kessler is my favorite player. But he’s decent.

I thought it when it happened (the trade for Gobert), I think it now, and eventually everybody will realize it was a horrible trade.

Of course the narrative/excuse will be that Towns/Gobert/Finch didn't have enough time to figure it out. That's nonsense. It's really not that difficult.

Murray was being shopped very aggressively, but we love our Russell. Murray was the perfect fit for this team.
Imagine Murray setting the table for Edwards and Towns. Another versatile, lengthy defender who can also function more efficiently without the high usage.

I'm not certain that Rivers should even be on a NBA roster, but I was wrong on Anderson. That was a good acquisition. I keep forgetting he's not even 30. His versatility both ways is impressive.

We were one move away from becoming relevant. We made the wrong move.

Murray Edwards McDaniels Towns Kessler. That's a real deal starting five. Every piece works.

Gobert trade will set the franchise back 5 to 10 years. You would be lucky to get 2 #1 picks for him today.

The only way out is to trade KAT for a bunch of first round picks.

Murray: 26
Edwards: 21
McDaniels: 22
KAT: 27
Kessler: 21

That's a legit 8 year window.

No Rudy tonight. Jokic looking like a man amongst boys. I predict 50/25.

Self destruction at the end. They went several possessions in a row down the stretch where they came up empty and really didn’t mount any kind of offense at all.

It’s a shame. I never thought they played great all night but were miraculously hanging around and at one point built a 10 point cushion. They blew a chance to steal one on the road against a good team.

Up 118-113 with 2:51 to go in the game, and outscored 9-0 to end it.

Was angry at Russell most of the game until he took over the 4th quarter.
McDaniels defense was huge especially in the 4th qtr.

Why do you guys keep supporting a team that is so inept? If you quit buying tickets and merch, maybe they'll do something different. Suckers.

It took them a while to wake up and play some defense. But nloafing through 3 quarters is not a good formula for success.

What a cluster F the west is. The wolves currently in a virtual tie with 3 other teams. And 5-12 are separated by 2 1/2 games.

Lowe's 10 things: LA and Miami at the deadline, Philly's quiet dominance and what's alarming in Golden State

2. So is Anthony Edwards

Edwards' past 18 games: 25.5 points on 45.5% shooting, six rebounds, and five assists. Minnesota has needed all of that; it's 13-13 with Karl-Anthony Towns out. Several key players have missed games in that stretch. Edwards has missed none. He leads the league in minutes.

Since Towns' injury, the Wolves are plus-2.4 per 100 possessions with Edwards on the floor -- and minus-8 without him.

He's been more diligent on the glass -- almost no one on the Wolves boxes out -- and in tracking shooters off the ball. His one-on-one defense is airtight when he dials in. On offense, Edwards is adding craft to his power game. He's changing pace, slowing down to keep help defenders guessing until they expose something in their indecision:

https://media.video-cdn.espn.com/gifs/mp4/dm_20230117_Ant_1_2gif.mp4

Edwards freezes the defense until he sees the pass he wants. (He has become really good at corner-to-corner passes when he spots up there instead of initiating. Minnesota has several guys who can orchestrate, including -- for now -- D'Angelo Russell. Part of Edwards' playmaking growth is being an active catch-and-go threat off the ball.)

https://media.video-cdn.espn.com/gifs/mp4/dm_20230117_ant_2_2gif.mp4

Edwards slithers around that pick with a languid lefty dribble before snaking back to his right and pausing with a live bounce. Caris LeVert is on the back foot, unsure. He lurches at the ball right as Edwards accelerates into a crossover.

Edwards slips into his more predictable comfort zone -- ball-pounding isolations, bonked long 2s, wayward drives, sloppy passes. Development is rarely linear. There is no sudden mega-leap -- no "before" and "after" point of demarcation. There is a gradual rebalancing -- a little more of the best stuff every week, every month.

Edwards has even added a bruising post game against switches -- something he promised in the preseason, key for punishing switches on the pick-and-roll. Edwards has 22 post touches, already a career high, per Second Spectrum. Minnesota has scored an absurd 1.6 points per possession on those plays.

The Gobert era has been a huge disappointment, but the Wolves are hanging in the play-in despite Towns' absence -- with Edwards trending up.

Edwards is my guy. Hopefully will continue to grow in all facets of his game.
Loved the pick and love the results so far. So athletic on the court and a great competitor.

I would honestly consider trading both KAT and Rudy to properly rebuild around Edwards.

That was impressive. He didn't have a lot of help. He really is one of those guys that can just take over a game. He's in a special category of NBA players, and he's still a bit raw.

I am concerned about his minutes. He's been on the injury report for more than two weeks, but gets no rest. I love his toughness, but I wonder if it would be better to give him a night off sometimes. Today's NBA, teams schedule a loss several times a season.

Is there any timeline on the return of KAT or Lil Mac?

If we could just go on a run stringing together some wins we could get much better playoff positioning.

The west looks like a joke thus far.

What’s impressive about Edwards is he plays like a real student of the game. Yes he’s still prone to lapses occasionally, and yes there are nights when he’s less locked in. But he isn’t just out there winging it like so many young players do. He’s breaking things down and learning veteran subtleties of the game. I totally trust the ball in his hand at crunch time to do the right thing and do it well.

Not many 21 year olds you can say that about.
