I think they lose but somebody here convince me me 8-7-1 likely still gets them in playoffs.

The Vikings have three very challenging opponents left to play. Seattle away during a nationally televised night game, a Miami team at 6-6 fighting amongst four other AFC teams for the second WC seed, and the NFC Central leading Bears. I would be shocked if this team wins any two of these three games. The Lions are not automatic for this team either.

If they lose to Miami at home Zimmer and Speilman deserve to be fired. They wasted their Mulligan against Buffalo.

Bears might have nothing to play for.

I bolded the wins for next year. 12-4, home field advantage through the playoffs, and a Super Bowl Title. PROVIDED we do the following:

Draft OL, OL, TE, LB, in the first four picks. Sign a quality OL in FA. Cut Rudolph, Griffen, Sendejo, and Remmers.

Rudolph’s not flashy or fast and a bunch of other things people want... until he bails us out in a game with marker movers or touchdowns, then he is merely “acceptable “...

Rudolph is a decent person and football player, yea he is past his prime and gets a lot of flash money, but he has put in Years, here. Under terrible coaching and offensive schemes.

I, for one, hold for him, no ill will for anything he gets paid.

He has done this team and your community, many, many solid things.

Get over it.

I don't get cutting Rudolph.

Other than to save a few bucks... He's a good TE.

His effect on any given game is negligible. Four catches for forty yards and a quarter of a TD is his average for 2018. He got 15% of his catches, 19% of his yards, and 50% of his TDs in one game vs the Lions when they opted to just simply not cover him.

He was the 12th most targeted TE per game in the NFL but had the 17th most yards per game. His yards-per-catch of 9.9 ranks 33rd among TEs with at least 20 catches on the year and 73rd overall.

On top of all of this the next tackle he breaks will be his first.

Rudolph is a great guy and it will be sad to see him go, but he's too expensive for what he provides. He has great hands but he's too slow to be your #1 pass catching TE. His deficiencies, combined with our 3rd WR woes are why D's became so comfortable doubling Diggs and Thielen the second half of the year.

He'd absolutely have to take a huge pay cut to come back.

7.6M is way too much for him next year. And there is zero dead money left in his contract.

Logic dictates:

A) The Vikings will either miss the playoffs next year, or will be uninspired and get Phillied in the playoffs.

B) Zimmer will then be fired following next season.

C) Cousins has to stay for his 3rd year, and with a new head coach, will have an excuse for his choking in the playoffs, and will be given another year.

D) After 4 years, people will realize Cousins is the problem, and the post Zimmer head coach will then want his own QB.

I am looking to the 2022 draft, and then the 2023 season, where for the 1st time in many years I might feel like the Vikings have a chance at winning the Super Bowl. I feel there is almost no chance for the next 4 seasons.

Except for TDs Rudolph's numbers are significantly UP in 2018 under Flip than 2017 under Shurmer. Rudy's 9.9 YPC which ranks 33rd among TEs with at least 20 catches and 73rd overall is dramatically up from 9.3 the year prior.

It's his style of running he delivers a lot of hits, but he takes a lot too. His running style is a lot like Eddie Lacy's was, sure he is a much more talented runner. I see he is only 23, I'll give him a 3rd season before his ability starts to decline noticeably, he'll turn 27. He'll still have some production in him, but history has shown that not everybody is AD.

I expect Elliott to be like Fred Taylor, maybe even Curtis Martin, just a durable, dependable back. After hes done being whatever he is now, that's the role he will settle into for the 2nd half of his career.
