Gophers start out the season with a sweep, but sure have plenty of things to work on. They have 4 good lines that can keep coming in waves and wear down the opposition, which is exactly what they did to Mercyhurst. Of the new comers on the team, Mathew Knies looks to be a real stud. Kid is 6"3 215 and can really skate and handle the puck. He looks like he could be a one and done type of player if that is the route he wants to go.

Gave up a lot of goals though. I couldn’t watch so not sure if they were soft or Mercy is just good.

Our so-called veteran group of defensemen more or less hung Laffer out to dry. On Friday night they had 4 or 5 breakaways and he only gave up one goal on them. Saturday there were no breakaways, but our D was still playing for the poke check instead of taking the man out. If they don't clean that up SCSU and UMD are going to feast on us. Let's just say Motzko has plenty of film to work with this week. We no doubt, have lots of offensive ability and can control large chunks of the play with our skill, but they try to get too cute instead of making the simple play sometimes.

St Cloud State takes down the Gophers 2-1 for the Friday night win. It was a really good hockey game right down to the end.

Gophers win 4-3 in OT Saturday with an amazing display of terrible officiating in the final period and OT.
SCSU fans show their lack of class by throwing trash on the ice after the winning goal......

Yeah, there was a lot of griping about that non-call in OT by the guys in the booth (including Mark Parrish), but they didn't gripe when they were gifted a power play on a bad call late in the game. Hmmm. That bad call gave them an extra man, which led to a goal, which led to overtime.

The ref appeared to have decided the OT situation was embellishment by the SCSU player, which explained his non-call.

Yup, McLaughlin slowed up and looked back at the ref waiting for the call and the ref didn't blow his whistle, apparently thinking the dive canceled out the hook and let them play on. McLaughlin kept playing and SCSU players didn't, that's on them. A great finish by Walker for the win as well.
Parrish hates the Gophers since they didn't recruit him and he ended up at St Cloud oh so many years ago....

In my opinion anybody that throws beer cans and water bottles at players on the ice should be banned for life
If that is you, you are indeed classless.

Well it wasn't much of a game tonight. The Bulldogs jumped on the Gophers early with 2 quick goals and then played their clogged the neutral zone trap and it was never really a game.
One of these days one would think we would figure out how to play with this team.

I didn't see last nights game, but from what I read it sounds like a repeat of the domination by UMD for the sweep.

Gophers get a sweep of Notre Dame at home but nobody cares......
This years team just seems to be missing something and I hope they find it soon.

They HAVE to drop the ticket prices for Gopher hockey games. It's sickening to see the arena nearly empty.

Yeap. Don't know the reason why but that arena isn't even 1/8th full and that's a crying shame.

Since the advent of the B10 apathy has set in big time for sure.
That and high prices as Lynn said.

I'd certainly never throw a beer can unless it was empty.
No I'd never even throw an empty beer can. Too hard to aim those.

A split in Wisconsin isn't as good as I would have liked, but ok for being on the road.

Now they need to do it two nights in a row. Forget splitting with Michigan. Just plain beat 'em twice.

Last night we finally saw the team I thought we would see this season. From what I hear they did the same thing last Friday in Grand Forks, but couldn't muster 2 good games in row and lost on Saturday.
Hoping they can finish off a road sweep of #3 Michigan going into their month off with a statement game tonight.

Game time is the same as the Wild tonight, so tonight's game will be recorded for later viewing......

Gratz Gopher fans on a big time win. As a Husky fan I kind of have to hate you, but as a Minnesotan I wish you well.
