Gophers get a sweep, this time over a short handed Michigan team. The weekend vaulted them up to #3 in the pairwise to go along with their #2 ranking in the poll.
If this team keeps playing hard and improving they have a real good chance at making a nice run this spring in the NCAA's.

Next up is AZ State in Tempe next weekend. Don't know much about them, but I suspect they still play a chippy game. Gophers better be ready.

Another trip to Michigan and another sweep, this time over Michigan State. After a lackluster split, and poor performance out in the desert over Thanksgiving, they bounced back and played solid hockey all weekend. The final period last night they took their foot off the gas a little allowing a few goals, but other than that they were in control the whole time. This group is getting better every week and has now played 3 full games without a penalty, pretty amazing.

Gophers kicked some Badger ass last night 7-1 and didn't play a very good game. They just scored early and often so that the last 2 periods was mostly going the through the motions.....
I expect another beating tonight for a sweep of Bucky going into the break. The next 2 games will be exhibitions against the USA U18 team and Bemidji State with a few of our top players out for the World Juniors. The 2nd half of the season kicks off with a home and home series against St Cloud. That should be a fun one, assuming all of the USA juniors players can get back in time to play.

Gopher women certainly bowled over St. Cloud State.

The men started poorly and spotted Bucky 2 goals, but after a dumb major penalty by the Badgers best player we took over from there. Went from being down 2 with 5 minutes left in the first to up 3-2 by the end of the period. Continued on in the 2nd to make it 6-2 by the end of the period.

Bucky pushed back hard in the 3rd to make the final 6-4 Gophers for the sweep and a commanding lead in the B10. A couple of weeks off now....

As good as the Gophers and Huskies are, a weekend split is probably the fair outcome for both teams, and that is what we got.
A couple of really good hockey teams and I could see both of them in the Frozen Four. It's always fun watching the NCAA tourney with multiple Minnesota teams to follow and cheer for.

I agree. Those two teams played well against each other.

Huskies get a 3-0 win and Gophers pull out an OT winner. I'll take it.

Gophers are struggling to get a full 60 minutes of good hockey going after the break, but are continuing to get points and maintain a huge lead in the B10 standings.
They also are still #1 in the pairwise, but it helps that every B10 team but Wisconsin is in the top 15 so they are playing top teams every week.
They should be ready for a good run come tourney time.

Gophers split the weekend with Michigan, but everybody else in the B10 split too, so no real change in standings. They remain #1 in the pairwise too, so pretty much a status quo weekend.

Why such a huge crowd at Gophers hockey game tonight? I thought tickets were too expensive?

Gophers are one of the top teams in the country and have been selling out games lately. The powers that be apparently have lowered some prices and done some promotions.
They got another sweep over MSU tonight even though they started out slowly and got out played in the 1st period. It took them a while, but they finally got things going and took control of the game winning 6-3. They have a bye next week and then 3 more series to end the regular season.

I’m out of town so I can’t watch, so thanks for the summary of the games.

The arena has been pretty packed all this season. I’m loving that.

The Gophers are a win away from clinching the B10 championship after beating Bucky 4-1 last night. Another win tonight in Madison will make it a regular season sweep over them.
I didn't watch last night because for some reason they were on Bally+ requiring signing up for a free trial, which made no sense for one game. From all reports we started out with another poor 1st period, but gained traction as the game wore on. Today is a 5 PM start on BTN, so at least can watch or most likely record for later since it's going to be too nice to be inside watching TV today.

Gophers got out worked by Wisconsin this weekend and blew their chance to clinch due to it. I hope it was the wake up call they needed. As the #1 ranked team they have a target on their backs every weekend and can't just show up and expect to win, even against the worst team in the B10. On to Happy Valley and Penn State next weekend. I hope we see a better effort there, or it could be another poor weekend.

Gophers win the B10 the night before thanks to Ohio State beating Michigan in a shootout and then they proceed to blow out Penn State 7-2 in their own arena. The best line in college hockey with Cooley, Snuggerud and Knies was really clicking last night and so fun to watch. The Gophers were not happy with the way they played last Saturday against the Badgers and they took it out on Penn State. I would love to see a sweep today to keep them rolling. Time to start ramping things up for tourney time.

As expected, last nights rematch was a much tighter game that took OT for the Gophers to get the sweep at Penn State. It was a good weekend for the Gophers and they played a very good game.....at least the final 2 periods that I saw. Of course the B10 network started their game after the 1st period ended as we had to watch the end of the OSU vs Michigan before they would cut over to our game. At least it was a hockey game and not some BB game where we had to watch them take tries at free throws for 30 minutes of real time to burn 2 minutes of clock time....

A fun team to watch and winning to go along with reduced prices has brought the students back in full force along with many others. When they forced tiered pricing on season tickets a lot of long time fans said no to the huge price increases. That, and those last few years of Lucia's lackluster teams along with the demise of the WCHA really turned a lot of fans off. This years team has brought them back to being one of the best shows in town and have been selling out almost every weekend.

I heard they had specials on ticket packages for great prices being sold at the state fair this year and it appears a lot of people took advantage of it. I think after Covid people are just looking to get out again too.

Today is already sold out for Senior day, so lets hope they can get the sweep and end the regular season in style.

Yeah, a crazy game with the penalties and we still win with relative ease. Our top line is scary good, yet we still hang tough with 2 of them sitting in the sin bin for 5 minutes....
Now we get 2 weeks off before playing again. I hope Bob has a plan to keep them up to game speed going into the playoffs.
