If you have a helicopter at your disposal you might as well use it, right?

That’s just what Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck did Friday night, when a helicopter arrived at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex, picked up Fleck and wide receivers coach Matt Simon and whisked them away to Eastview High School in Apple Valley. That’s where Edina's Quinn Carroll, a prized offensive tackle recruit was playing.

But Fleck wasn't done for the night. He then took the helicopter to Lakeville, where Lakeville North's Bryce Benhart, a junior offensive tackle and Gophers recruit, was playing against visiting Lakeville South.

The helicopter ride was just the start of Fleck’s plan to impress Carroll. Fleck wore a gold Gophers jersey with Carroll’s No. 75, while Simon sported a gold jersey with No. 83, which Jay Carroll, Quinn’s father, wore as a Gophers tight end from 1980 to ’83.

Quinn Carroll, a 6-6 and 290-pound junior, has scholarship offers from most major powers, including Alabama, Notre Dame and USC.

Benhart, 6-7, 285 pounds, also has offers from Wisconsin, UCLA, Northwestern and Iowa State. While in Lakeville, Fleck also had a chance to watch one of his 2018 commitments, Lakeville North center Nathan Boe.

With the Gophers on their bye week, Fleck and his assistants spent a lot of their time recruiting this week.

Gophers can't run the ball today. Getting beat up by Maryland.

Got it all through the air. Rushing attack is at 2.8 YPC for the game.

Back and forth. MD retakes the lead and a Brooks TD ties it up.

Gophers couldn't stop them defensively. 31-24 with a minute to play.

Very disappointed in the D. The O struggled to run the ball but scored enough points to win. We will be lucky to get to a low level bowl. Just being honest.

Thinking an improving Purdue squad uses us to prove a point.
Could get u-g-l-y
if you can't beat Maryland at home, when they are using their third string QB ..... lordy

I'm not going to listen to this "it cannot be done here" bullshit ..... ANY MORE.

Penn State, a short couple of years ago .... experienced a CATASTROPHIC collapse of their football program.
They are currently 4th in the nation and probably moving up.
One of our GD programs better be nationally relevant soon, or there should be hell to pay.
WTF is everyone here doing wrong?
You can't get any lower than Penn State was. Disgraced, humiliated, torn apart, torn down to the base.
While we keep spending billions and going nowhere important.
I feel like that old Lombardi video ... "whattttttt the hellllll is going on around here???????"

We need to change the name of our housing district for students. If you are a great athlete, coming from out of state, do you want to live in Happy Valley or Dinkytown???

Great start!

2nd play and Rhoda gets a WR knocked out by floating it
what looked to be a 6 yard punt
15 yard face mask penalty
completely blown coverage for a TD

MUCH better 2nd drive. Got 1 first down (before punting) and didn't get a guy knocked out. Rhoda looks terrible again.

THIS is what bugs me and always has ... about college football
Your are protecting NOTHING
So what if you are backed up at your 2 yard line?
WHAT are you protecting?
Never has made any sense to me .... being 3-11 instead of 2-12?
You aren't playing for the division crown, or to get into the playoffs with a tight close win ...college football games should be no-holds-barred, slugfests.
If you ain't undefeated, you're going nowhere. Stop acting like you are saving face by playing it close to the vest.

So... you played it careful .... and punted from your end zone. Congrats. 5 plays later, Purdue will be standing in it celebrating. (most times)
If Purdue wasn't even more clueless than us, they'd be running away with this.
The mindset drives me nuts.
