From the Pioneer Press

The Gophers football program received an oral commitment Wednesday from one of the highest-rated players from Illinois in the 2019 recruiting class.

Jason Bargy, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end from Moment, Ill., is considered a four-star recruit, the No. 2 recruit in Illinois and the 190th player overall in next year’s class, per 247sports.com.

“Thanks to all the coaches and schools that showed interest & made offers during my recruitment,” Bargy tweeted. “But I am happy to say that I HAVE OFFICIALLY COMMITTED TO UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA!!”

and ...

The Gophers football program received an oral commitment Thursday from Ahmad McCullough, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker from Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.

“ROW THE BOAT! #GoGophers,” McCullough tweeted with an attached image saying he was committed to Minnesota.

McCullough, of Baltimore, Md., had an offer from Eastern Michigan before he pledged to the Gophers, and Rutgers offered him a scholarship soon after his announcement Thursday afternoon.

The Momence (Ill.) product is currently the fifth-ranked defensive end in the country, according to 247 Sports, and a Top 100 overall prospect. Bargy is the second-ranked prospect in the state of Illinois.

Height: 6’4’’
Weight: 225

Power 5 Scholarship Offers: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Wisconsin

High level athlete who has played many positions in high school and excels on the track. Pursues hard and uses that speed to run down plays. Shows the ability to play in space and has rushed from a two-point and has even played some middle linebacker. Has twitch, but also shows some strength and ability to be violent with his hands. Can still get stronger. Main area to concentrate on for him in college is improving technique and adding some go-to pass rush moves in addition to his speed rush. As far as length and natural gifts, he has the goods.

More:

GI is now reporting that he is up to 255-260 and ran an 11.4ish 100 at that weight this spring.

Sounds like this may be Fleck's best recruit so far.

Whatever anyone thinks of the whole RTB schtick, there is a definite uptick in the quality of recruits under Fleck.

Saw the facilities from the outside last week, while at the U softball finale. I know I posted this earlier and it was lost in the failure.

Big, big area. Hope the inside impresses kids, and the coaches figure out how to maximize it.

What was your favorite Vic Viremantes moment? He apparently is looking to play a new position and transfer out of the U. It's not a good sign when you fall behind a freshman walk on, on the depth chart.

It's also pretty damning to be switching to LB when you were considered the best dual threat QB prospect.

As it happened, the turnaround was by Viramontes. It was revealed last weekend that he had turned around and went back to Riverside City College,
where he hopes to turn himself into a linebacker worthy of another round of FBS recruitment.

What's the vitriol about? Because Viramontes didn't work out? Like him or not, Fleck has pulled in two of our highest ranked recruiting classes in decades.

The true talent maybe the walk on QB that also brought 2 recruits with him. Annexstad

Also this:

Armchair BIG10 Recruiting
@ArmchairBIG10RC
6-5 QB Jacob Clark commits to the Gophers and Minnesota moves to 26th nationally for the class of 2019.

Because Fleck oversells these guys to the masses.

He hasn't done squat at the U yet besides get some good players on paper.

I won't call him a Prime Time coach until he starts winning yearly....but he does deserve time to build it. I like the Oline recruits he signed....that is the big plus in my book.

My line was about Vic and not Fleck. When you're considered the best dual threat QB and are now trying to switch to LB, that tells me a lot about your QB potential. Not good at all.

So this is more, get those kids off my lawn stuff. You have to hype if your going to recruit kids into a program that has been rutted in irrelevance for 50 years. What do you want him to say. "These guys are going to suck for a few years before it gets better." That isn't exactly inspirational. Like it or not, salesman is a big part of the job. Fleck is doing that job. You hype to get a better quality of player "on paper" to get a chance to coach them up. Coach better players to a higher level and win more. Win more and you don't have to hype so much. Until then, you gotta sell the sizzle with the steak. I have no idea if Fleck will be the long awaited messiah for the program, but I have no issue with what he is doing to this point.

And when you get right down to it, the scouting services like 247, ESPN, etc. are the ones giving Fleck and his recruits the hype and rankings. Fleck doesn't say any more about his recruits than any other coach would.

No, just trying to get him off the Twins.

Gophers get a commitment from one of the top kickers in the country, a week after getting commitments from 5 defensive players. The 2019 class on paper is now in the top 20 nationally and top 4 in the Big Ten. Fleck has a total of 17 commits for that class, so far.
