Because Fleck oversells these guys to the masses.

He hasn't done squat at the U yet besides get some good players on paper.

So this is more, get those kids off my lawn stuff. You have to hype if your going to recruit kids into a program that has been rutted in irrelevance for 50 years. What do you want him to say. "These guys are going to suck for a few years before it gets better." That isn't exactly inspirational. Like it or not, salesman is a big part of the job. Fleck is doing that job. You hype to get a better quality of player "on paper" to get a chance to coach them up. Coach better players to a higher level and win more. Win more and you don't have to hype so much. Until then, you gotta sell the sizzle with the steak. I have no idea if Fleck will be the long awaited messiah for the program, but I have no issue with what he is doing to this point.

And when you get right down to it, the scouting services like 247, ESPN, etc. are the ones giving Fleck and his recruits the hype and rankings. Fleck doesn't say any more about his recruits than any other coach would.

Remember "Gopher Nation" guy?

Pennsylvania running back Treyson Potts commits to Gophers
By Randy Johnson JUNE 20, 2018 — 3:05PM

Treyson Potts, a running back from Williamsport, Pa., announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he has committed to the Gophers.

The 5-10, 182-pounder is a three-star prospect and is the No. 13-ranked all-purpose back nationally in the Class of 2019 by the 247Sports.com composite ratings of major recruiting services. Potts did not play in his junior season because of a torn anterior cruciate knee ligament, but he drew the attention of recruiters when he rushed for 2,017 yards and 37 touchdowns as a sophomore for the Millionaires.

Potts, who made an official visit to the Gophers on Monday, received scholarship offers from nine FBS programs, including Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Virginia and Connecticut. He is the 18th player in the Class of 2019 to commit to coach P.J. Fleck’s program. The Gophers are ranked No. 19 nationally and third in the Big Ten in the 247Sports composite ratings. In 247Sports’ own rankings, Minnesota is 17th nationally and second in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.

They need to quit rowing boats, win more games and stay the hell off Ed's lawn.

Based on the awesome offense, if it continues, they'll need several.

Might be nice to find a QB one day .....
Starting to think our local boy here who is heading to Fargo would have probably been the best guy in camp for the Gophs

The 13th best RB in the nation only gets 3 Star. Seems strange.

Todd Bouman's kid will play quarterback at Iowa State

Iowa State’s 2020 recruiting class is underway with a commitment from Buffalo (Minn.) quarterback Aidan Bouman. The lefty was very impressive at camp in early June and returned tonight. Could end up as one of the top Midwest QBs in 2020

Kid is 6'5"200 pounds ALREADY

58. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Relative Strengths: Running Back, Linebacker
Relative Concerns: Quarterback, Passing Game
Here's The Deal: If PJ Fleck can get one of his young quarterbacks to rise up and rock, there might be something there to come up with a breakthrough season. The defense will be sound, and the ground game great. The passing attack? Give it some time.
2017 Final Season Ranking: 85

Dad was the Best pure athlete I've ever seen around here, easily
Friend of mine coached him in HS, said when he was in 8th grade .... "we finally have a kid that will play professionally"
I asked what sport, and he said ... "which ever one he chooses"
The bloodlines continue
Todds brothers were all legends around here too

Large contingent of Gopher FB players gathered at our local boys summer house in Spicer this weekend
I don't see him getting mentioned much, but a couple big-name guys were present.
Are pontoons really meant to carry several thousand pounds of beef?

I'd prefer THIS PAST

So its more of an omission, than a clarification that requires complete overhaul
