Hey Pete!
Was off the grid this weekend .. thanks for the heads-up on THE PLAY
Really didn't think we'd need that to beat Fresno, but a W is a W ....

Like I said before. Fresno State is pretty good. This was not a gimme game by any stretch of the imagination.

Yeah, I heard ya.
Didn't say it was a gimme.

Just sayin, it's not a surprise that it went down to the wire. Especially with a young team.

WAS nice to see we didn't give up 70 points to 'em.
FEELS like there's some better playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, wish our coaching was more creative in using it.

Sources tell @TheAthleticMIN that Gophers star RB Rodney Smith will miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury. Tough blow for a very young team.

It's just so freaking predictable!!

When does Brooks come back?

Last 4 games.

I wonder if that's still the plan? I guess it may depend on how soon Brooks is ready to play.

#Gophers coach P.J. Fleck asked injured RB Rodney Smith if he wanted to return for a sixth year, joking that he'd be "a 34-year-old senior.'' Smith responded that he wants to return because they have something special here.

I heard Smith is unlikely to return next year because he has a better chance getting drafted if he declares for the draft after this season. An NFL team may take a chance on him recovering.

If he comes back to the Gophers, he will have to prove he is healthy, but the bigger thing is he'll be a year older by the time the next draft comes around, and most NFL running backs are done by Age 27-28.

If he comes back for a year, he would turn 24 a couple of months before the draft. That is a legitimate concern.

So ..... we are at #48 in the Power Index

We are playing Miami of Ohio this week (#103)
We've beaten New Mexico State (#127)
And Fresno State, who I guess was apparently pretty good. (#39)

I guess that team that gave up 79 points to Fresno State must have been pretty good.

Eh, NFL running backs have a short life span anyway. It wouldn't concern me as long as he was healthy at draft time.

Most of the top running backs are 21 when they enter the draft. It is a big deal.

I think it's a bigger deal to Smith than it is to the team that drafts him. His rookie deal with be 4 years. He will still be in his prime for those 4 years. If he's healthy I wouldn't have a problem taking him at the older age.

He won't get much of 2nd deal though because of the age he'll be at when that time comes.

How many running backs even get a second deal though? Especially ones slotted where Smith will likely go. Unless he really kills it next year, he'll be a mid round back at best. Which means he'll be lucky to carve out a brief NFL career as a backup and then he'll be out. That's why I think his age will be largely irrelevant.

I'm not sure Smith is all that anyway. When you have a first round QB slinging it in to the stands/ground it opens a lot of running lanes.

Nice screen. Williams is a player. Bad tackling by Miami though.
