We are resilient I will give us that. This should be a win now.

No time for a FG now. All or nothing for GSU.

On a day where Temple has beaten Maryland and Eastern Michigan beat Illinois, I’ll take it. It’s a reminder that every win is a good win.

A lot of work to do to get this group in the top of the Big 10. We snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and then snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. A very improbably finish. GSU has some athletes and they seem pretty well coached. This was their backup QB by the way. We had to play some RB's that are way down the depth chart too and it showed.

Only the Gophers can go from lining up for a chip shot field goal for an 11 point 4th quarter lead to one minute later being down 4.

When the Gophers got the ball the last time, I told my wife, the Gophers have good receivers. This isn’t over. And they do. And Morgan delivered to them, despite facing too much pressure.

A win is a win, I guess. Certainly shot ourselves in the feet (and hands, ankles, knees and ears). Things that drove me insane:

As was mention, Fleck's use of TO's is idiotic. Specifically, you are down by 4 and they are going for 2 with 1:30 seconds left in the game, don't call your last TO. "IF" they make it or not you still need a TD. The best they can do is go up by 6. Instead he uses it to see what formation they run and left the O with zero TO's on the game winning drive. The best case scenario for them still left us the ability to win the game with the same TD you needed.

Morgan doesn't get the concept of taking a 7 yard run and getting OOB to kill the clock instead of holding on to the ball and riffling a pass that has no chance in hell of being caught. Take the yards kids and get out of bounds.

Our 'big/massive/strong/" lines got manhandled today. All 3 phases. I can understand when they are more athletic and get around us because we are too slow but they also pushed us around. Can't have both.

Scrap the Seth Jones Wildcat schtick. He never hands off or throws it. It's everyman to Jones at this point.

Good things:

Our WR's are total clutch. I've bitched about Johnson dropping too many easy balls (and he does). But that guy can absolutely carry this team at times. When he's on he's dominant.

We keep churning out effective backs.

Morgan had really bad moments but was absolutely clutch on that last drive (minus that one that went right threw the DB's hands and was caught on the sidelines. that was totally a catch BTW. what they saw in the replay to uphold the decision is beyond me).

We're 3-0 again.

In addition to what you said Jeff, the RPO doesn't work well with Morgan because he never keeps it. The DE was crashing on the RB all game and Morgan never kept. So many runs right into the line that went nowhere.

Just reading the posts here; I did not see the game. But sounds like a remarkable and undeserved win, in a way. That's 3. I don't get it. We don't have a golden horseshoe in Minnesota sports. It's appreciated so far. But do we really need a lucky horseshoe vs Georgia Southern? That's kinda sad.

This wasn't luck/unlucky Matt. This one was sheer stupidity that kept them in it (and where they should have won it). We had the game in hand and made boneheaded plays that gave them the lead late.

The two things that are proving the most aggravating are the glaring mistakes (has anyone ever given up two faster successive recoveries for TD) and the blocking. The blocking is the bigger issue for me as I think the miscues can be corrected. Here is the thing, the Gophers O-line averages 20 lbs heavier than the Vikings O-line. It's like Jeff said, they aren't just getting beat by shifty, athletic pass rushers. They are getting bullied by undersized, but plucky grinders. There is no excuse for that. They have to be able to impose their will on these guys. Especially in the running game.

Our O line is huge.
But when it comes to toughness, our O line is huge.
Just not in a couple of them to bully anyone around.
Keep hoping it will develop, but it hasn't yet.

Go single back, 3WR set with one TE (Green) and put Morgan under center.....we can see it why can't the coach? A big oline is more suited for the I formation than the RPO. Spread out the defense w/o the RPO and we will run all over teams.

With you there. QB isn't great for RPO either. Power run game, play action, throw deep.

We outmatch teams with our oline size and 3 stud WRs but we bunch up the line with 2 TE and go RPO...makes no sense. I would even understand putting Green in the backfield as a FB for I or Pro Formations for short pass patterns to open up the deep passing game....I don't understand RPO....should have recruited the Marshall kid then.

Official Gophers site says 2:30 on ESPN or ESPN2. My guide says Louisville at FSU on ESPN. On ESPN2 it says UCF at Pittsburgh. Anyone know if the game is even gonna be on TV?

There will be plenty of games on TV, just not the Gophers. They are going to win the bye week in solid fashion.

The way I knew that the Gophers had a bye week is that I had a writers conference on Saturday on the U of M campus - and could find parking.

(Actually, small lie here. I knew that ahead of time).

Do any longtime Gopher football fans know the name Sam Richter? I met him at a speaker's association meeting last week, and in the course of the conversation at the table there was talk of Gopher football. I gathered from the conversation that Sam used to play for them, so I looked him up when I came home.

If you knew of him, you might be interested to hear that he is a highly sought-after speaker these days. He also created a new software for speakers to use, although I don't know much about it.

Just as an aside - the topic of tailgating was front and center, and both Sam and Joe Schmit (also at the table) agreed that it is almost impossible to park and tailgate at the U these days. Sam even admitted that he rarely even goes to games anymore because of the chaos just to get in the gates. That was when I mentioned that I had a conference there the following week and wondered if I should worry about finding parking. He's the one who told me the Gophers had a bye.

He seems like a super guy, and still a proud Gopher alum.
