Happy Chef in Rogers was always our place to eat as we approached the Twin Cities when I was a kid, and also a place we would have our last breakfast before we headed back home. I remember pushing that button on the statue and he'd say something you couldn't really understand. As I was looking some of this stuff up yesterday, I noticed there is only one Happy Chef left - the original one in Mankato. Apparently they have a giant chef statue too, but the speaker had been broken for decades. They recently fixed the speaker, so now kids can push the button and listen to the statue say crazy stuff. I've never been to Mankato in my life. That's kind of a weird fact. It has to be the only town over 10,000 people in the state that I've never been to at least one time.
that is extremely weird
We had a happy Chef for years
was the after-bar place to gather
Poor Big Chef had dozens of arrows stuck into him in all places by the end.
Always felt bad for him, after checking every night "yup, theres another one..."
Happy Chefs were open all-night?
I remember noticing a lot of weird places in Marshall, now that you mention it. I think Happy Chef might still be open as FOOD or something in Marshall.
Mikes café, a "downtown" Marshall staple for a hundred years, moved out into the happy Chef building once that franchise left
its the only place left in town where you can get the old fashioned "beef commercial" type meals
Everyone goes there at least once a year for memories sake
And they have a huge farmer clientele that goes there every morning.
Happy Chef always did well with the college crowd, its right next to campus
