After instituting a $1.5 trillion tax cut and signing off on a $675 billion budget for the Department of Defense, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday that the only way to lower the record-high federal deficit would be to cut entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Why would he take away entitlements for himself? What a good guy!

Medicare and social security are NOT entitlement programs. Medicaid is partially funded by Medicare. These programs are separately funded by earned wages and self-employment. If anything, we should increase the FICA and Medicare tax by .5% to ensure the funds continuity for the next 100 years.

You see. Republicans borrowed from Social Security to fund unpaid for wars etc. They want to cut these programs so they don't have to pay it back.

And once again they are pushing a ****over of average Americans to benefit rich Americans.

Whoa! I agree with CPAMAN on something. Maybe he can convince his political party to agree with him too?

Isn't it like a spoof of Star Wars or Star Trek? So since I haven't seen those movies (or shows?), I wouldn't get the joke.

Either McConnell is the most clueless politician ever to walk the face of the earth with his suggestion that we cut "entitlements" 3 weeks before the midterm elections

or

this is a strategy of good cop bad cop. Many of Trump's diehard supporters would be killed by cuts to SS, medicare and medicaid. This could be the ticket to keep many from voting.

But

Trump has already said after McConnell's statement, that SS etc. is safe. Trump comes to the rescue for his base.

I would not be surprised if this is a planned strategy. I just don't think McConnell is that stupid. Yes, he wants to cut entitlements. But that isn't the message you send voters 3 weeks before the midterm election.

A decent idea....but the cost is already sufficient for the lower income strata.

Raise or remove the SS cap is one way to make SS solvent.
