We had our first preseason game last night so I think it's time for a new thread.

Bill Guerin has signed a multi-year contract extension as GM of the Minnesota Wild, sources told ESPN.

I doubt Guerin is getting paid unless the Hughes contract is done.

Russo says that it's a simple matter of Hughes taking his time on signing. They have apparently already agreed on money. Guerin, Hughes and his agent supposedly have a great relationship and there isn't even a whiff of anything adversarial going on. My guess is they agreed on money and Hughes is taking his time deciding on length. If Billy could pull off a Larkin deal, I would bet Hughes would sign quickly for a longer term.

I wish they would just give up on the Larkin deal and move on with what we have. Larkin isn't all that and I think our young guys will do just fine as the season goes on. I predict Hughes will sign for 3 years to align his contract to end with Jack's.

Larkin wants to be here so it won't go away.

Brock Faber will open season on injured reserve retroactive to last Friday. So Wild Dman will miss Thursday’s season opener but theoretically could be activated as early as Saturday’s home opener.

David Spacek and Charlie Stramel have made initial roster.

I'm glad they are giving Yurov the first shot at centering Kaprizov.

I think playing with Kirill will help speed up Yurovs growth as a top center and he was actually petty good in faceoffs last game. If he falters they can always move Hartmann back to that spot if needed.

Wild defenseman Brock Faber suffered fractured skull, no timetable for return

Ended up being more serious.

Heard/read that is also wasn't a "lineal" fracture. Which makes it harder to heal. 2 to 3 months is what I would guess. That sucks but the internet doctors (I know..I know) say that surgery means it's pretty bad. A slight crack heals in time.

Could be 5 months. Thankfully that means he'll be back for the 2nd half and playoffs.

3 new guys (Maatta, Coleman and Max) looked pretty dang good.

Nice win on the road.

That’s the way you do it on the road. Just play good solid hockey and grind out a win.

Nice goal by Coleman.

Playing on the road hasn't been their problem.

Our old friend Bruno might be looking for a new gig soon. Missed the playoffs 3 out of 4 years and that arena was about half capacity for an opener

Wild start the season 2-0 and looked pretty good at home against Boston tonight. The Wall in St Paul is alive and well and KK is on pace for 100 goals.
The best part is we haven't given up short handed goal yet. It's about time they add some pressure to the PK instead of sitting in that passive box they did for years.

Yes killing off two 3rd period penalties that would have cut the Wild’s lead to one was good to see.

If the first line gets clicking (and there are signs already) and Faber comes back to his normal self, this team is going to be dangerous. The line combos already look better, and Coleman is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than Johanson, so far. For perspective, Matta played about 23 minutes last night.

Max makes things happen.
