I watched a good portion of the wolves preseason game last night. My first viewing of the year. None of the starters played. The ‘starters’ in this one were mostly key reserves who will be battling for minutes in the regular season. The reserves in this one were mostly players on the bubble or who will soon be gone. So I watched from the perspective of looking at some individual performances and not caring about the score much. Here’s what I saw: I was eager to see if Beringer had progressed at all, because if he has that would be huge. He was not very impressive. He’s definitely a hustle guy who wants desperately to do the right things and that is worth something, but he still does it a bit awkwardly and aimlessly. He missed several short range shots. It’s typical for his age and experience; he’s still so young. He may still end up being a great player but for now I’d still put in the project category. They gave Zyon Pullin the start at PG, likely wanted to give him one last extended audition to make his case. He didn’t show much either. He may be serviceable as an emergency PG3 if someone gets injured (looking at you Melo) but you could do it just as well or better by committee. Clark had a strong game…no surprise there given the lack of all front line players. Also our 2nd round pick Isaiah Evan’s with a strong game leading all scorers with 21. Surprise of the night, for me anyway was Drew Timme. He was solid. I don’t know what that does to move the needle for him, probably not much, but for one night anyway he did all he could.
