The sequence in the last 10 seconds was absurd. In a 7 point game the Lynx fouled at the 3 pt line (Reeves looked like she wanted to come and strangle Perkins for that one). The Sparks make the first 2 FT, intentionally brick the 3rd one that sets up a scramble and they score a wild, horseshoe up the ass 3 with a foul on the inbound to make it a 2 pt game with 1 second left. Whalen dropped her first FT, then intentionally bricked the second to kill the clock.

A win is a win. Biggest win of the season. Now we have a game lead. Anybody know who has the tiebreaker?

The Lynx do, having won the season series 2-1.

During Tuesday night’s game between the Minnesota Lynx and the Los Angeles Sparks, one of the most memorable moments of the night happened on the sideline between ESPN reporter Holly Rowe and Minnesota Head Coach Cheryl Reeve.

Los Angeles, CA-- As WNBA fans know, Tuesday night offered a match-up for the ages between the Minnesota Lynx and Los Angeles Sparks. The Lynx ultimately came out on top, but one of the most important moments of the night didn’t happen on the court and had zero playoff implications.

Instead, it happened on the sideline. As the game aired on ESPN2, veteran reporter Holly Rowe, who has been battling cancer, interviewed Minnesota head coach Cheryl Reeve.

On a night promoting breast health awareness, with the Sparks dawning pink jerseys and the Lynx dawning pink socks, Reeve offered a different answer to Rowe’s question about how the Lynx were looking to counter LA’s Nneka Ogwumike.

“Holly, no matter what’s going on in the game, what’s more, important is what’s going on with you,” Reeve said. “We are so proud of your strength and your fortitude and the way that you’re tackling breast cancer. And us bearing the name ‘Mayo’ is no more significant than a day like today for breast health awareness.

“So we are so proud of you, and we stand with you, and we think you’re absolutely amazing.”

Rowe, being the phenomenal reporter that she is, tried to ask a basketball-related follow-up.

“Nothing we’re doing today is as important as what you’re doing,” Reeve said.

Wow. What a moment.

Sports offer a fantastic outlet in all of our lives. But one of the reasons I love sports so much, is because they oftentimes offer us all a chance to look at the bigger picture and reflect.

Too often we have seen our colleagues in the field of sports journalism fighting cancer while continuing to work. Rowe is an inspiration to all of those who have followed her cancer battle as she continues her assignments for ESPN.

While many of us won’t remember the score of this game in the coming years, we will all remember the kind words shared between Cheryl Reeve and Holly Rowe on the sideline.

Sparks lose to Dream. Lynx totally in drivers seat for Home court advantage. 2 Games up in the loss column plus the tie breaker.

David Levine -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/9/2016 12:11:34 PM)

Since starting the season 20-1, the Sparks have faded, winning only four of their last ten games, and going 3-4 since returning from the Olympic break.

Sparks are just in free fall since the Olympics. Last 10 games:

Lynx: 9-1. 5 game winning streak.
Sparks: 4-6. 3 game losing streak.

Really never saw this early lockup coming.
When we played LA that first time, it looked like we may have met our match finally.
Not so much, I guess
Strange collapse out there.

They can't even seem to figure out a rotation. Their best PG comes off the bench in limited minutes. They don;t know if its Parker or Ogwumike's team, and Parker has been melting down on the court of late.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/13/2016 12:49:15 PM)

It's almost a letdown clinching home court with the demise of the Sparks. I'll take it LOL. Sparks are still dangerous I would guess.

These women hit their FTs better than men.
Fun to see.

It was a big game for them for seeding.

I kind of wish Reeve had stuck to not playing her starters so much in a game we didn't need. Part of what has really kept us fresh is how she's managed minutes. Seimone and Whalen are averaging career lows at only around 24.

It was nice of Big Syl to foul out in 21 to keep her minutes in check. [:D]
