Whalen ..... Warrior. And playing like the league MVP right now.
Love her game.
She makes more room for herself than any other 5-foot-8er that ever played, male or female.
Tough s.o.b.

Whalen is imposing her will on the opposition offensively. I think teams were sagging off her and she is just taking and making the shots.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (7/21/2013 7:08:03 PM)

Tough win on the road tonight. Poor shooting for Lynx had Phx up most of the game, but they kept at it and reclaimed the lead with less then 2 minutes and hung on. Taurasi is the Kobe of the WNBA, crying on every call

13-3?

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (7/22/2013 1:59:36 PM)

Right now the regular season is a foregone conclusion. It will come down to the playoffs and anything less that a title will be a disappointment.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (7/23/2013 7:10:18 PM)

Congrats go out to Lindsey and Rebbeca as they join Maya and Moni onAS team

Maya was really strong early this season but Whalen has been dominant during this winning streak. I haven't really noticed Augustus doing much of anything this season. Solid but definitely unspectacular. I seldom get a chance to watch the games so I am relying on the box scores and what you all here have to say. [:-]

She's having good season, not MVP but good. But its how Mone does what she does. 'Mone is the best, most efficient, mid-range shooter in the women's game; one of, if not the best 1 on 1, break your ankle, make 'em look stupid players in the game [8D], with a sick crossover to boot. Fans appreciate her game so she'll be one of those perennial All-Stars. But, Whay should have been a starter though. But All-Star game starters are also popularity contest. Diggins was 3rd in voting (guards) behind Augustus and just ahead of Whalen. So the coaches did get the reserves right.

The West won the game 102-98. On the West side game was pretty much Minnesota Lynx early and LA Sharks last.

And without Griner playing other players put on a dunk show in warm-ups :

We ended up with three of the five starters. WOW. Seimone had a great game with a plus 16.

Nice way to come of the All-Star break w/ a win on Friday night.

Post game :

The Lynx are now a WNBA-best 15-3 and are 9-0 (home) this season. They have won eight straight games, the longest streak in the league, while winning 17 games at home. That is the fourth longest streak in league history.

From the Strib :

quote:

Maybe the mind-set Reeve and her team works with is why the Lynx were able to come off a nine-day All-Star Game break and win going away.

“Trying to achieve greatness, like this team does, they make it look easy,” Reeve said. “But it’s a lot of work. And it’s a lot of mental preparation.’’

quote:

It has won eight consecutive games, the league’s best streak this season. It has won 17 in a row at home dating to last season, a franchise-best and the fourth-longest such streak in league history. Friday marked the seventh time in a row the Lynx have beaten the Silver Stars who, at 6-12, are grinding through a difficult season beset with injuries.

Next up Seattle comes to town tonite.

Whalen continues her pace, and the Lynx pound Seattle for their 18th straight home win.
This team knows how to win.
It imposes its will on other teams, especially during home games.

•McCarville finished with seven assists, which matched her career high which was set in 2008 against the Atlanta Dream.

"I'm just glad that we are winning. We are taking care of things at home and we've been winning here and we've been playing really, really well. What the team needs to win I'm going to do it," - Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson on her double-double.

Nice win over San Antonio for 10 straight!

What happened to McCarville last night? She only played 1:26.

Jim Frenette -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/12/2013 12:15:06 PM)

The Lynx lost another tough game yesterday. Officials were terrible. Way to many charges of our aides while the sky players were still moving. If they didn't want to call block, then keep whistle in pocket. Very one sided

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/12/2013 12:42:41 PM)

Love the DelaDonne story.
Amazing talent.

kgdabom -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/14/2013 6:18:16 PM)

Wow it seems like the Lynx can't lose at all and then they lose two in a row. OUCH!!! Only one game up on LA for the number one seed now.

Bruce Johnson -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/18/2013 8:15:19 PM)

I see McCarville played 30 minutes this evening and the Lynx win going away. Good to see.

SoMnFan -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/19/2013 9:16:31 AM)

THAT was more like it, gals.

Minnyme -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (8/20/2013 1:25:56 AM)

Was nice to see the team play so well vs. NY on Sunday after the 3 losses. The offense was back. Patience, ball movement was so much better. Great to see the Aussie Rachel Jarry come up big as well. Hopefully Monica will be back in the line up soon.

http://www.startribune.com/sports/lynx/220134181.html

quote:

One of the big complaints coach Cheryl Reeve had with her team’s performance in a loss Friday was impatience on offense. Throughout that game, the Lynx took ill-advised shots to dig out of a hole created from the start. An early lead on Sunday, sparked by leading scorer Maya Moore, prevented impatience from becoming a problem.

http://www.twincities.com/lynx/ci_23890239/lynx-88-liberty-57-rachel-jarry-comes-up

quote:

"It's just crazy, coming over here," Jarry said. "The whole crowd knows about basketball, whereas in Australia, we're not a basketball nation, so a lot of people don't understand the game and you don't really get hyped. So being over here and you hit a couple threes and the whole crowd's into it -- and the girls on the bench -- it's a lot of fun."

For a nice little slice of WNBA drama, post game Bill Laimbeer basically called out Coach Reeve & wished for a bounty on Maya Moore [:-]

http://www.foxsportsnorth.com/wnba/minnesota-lynx/story/Laimbeer-says-Moore-should-get-hurt-for-?blockID=930635&feedID=6065

quote:

Whatever his motives, Bill Laimbeer spouted off on Moore and Reeve following the Lynx's 88-57, three-game skid-snapping victory. His displeasure focused on Moore's playing time, given the fact his team trailed by 20 early in the third quarter and never sniffed a rally opportunity.

"I was a little disappointed when they left Maya Moore in the game to try and get player of the week again when the game was out of control," said Laimbeer, who spent 14 seasons in the NBA and earned a pair of championship rings. "She should get hurt for that."

Will be interesting to see if the league lets him get away with suggesting injuring a player because his team sucks. [X(]

The Lynx take on the Atlanta Dream tonight 8/20 at 6pm. This gm is supposed to be on local FSN-North and NBA TV. We'll see. Both will be the same feed of the ATL crew.

Big win over LA last night!

Bigger than Big. It was HUGE. Lynx now are three games up in the loss column with I think four games to go. If they had lost it would have been a one game lead and they play at the Sparks in the final game of the season. Win last night barring an unprecedented collapse wrapped up the division and more importantly home court advantage.

TJSweens -> RE: Minnesota Lynx (9/5/2013 1:14:24 PM)

The last month what I have been hoping for has started to happen. Maya Moore is asserting her game and her will. It's nice to have the luxury of saying anyone can step up on any give night on this team. I still think you need someone to emerge as the focal point on the floor. If they focus their resources on stopping Moore then it opens the game up for the others to step up. Maya is the biggest talent on a deep team. I'm glad to see her emerging and taking charge more and more.
