But there have been MANY possible storylines in the past that didn't materialize.

Let's see how things play out before jumping to premature conclusions.

I think Allen is too careless to win the Super Bowl. I think it will be KC or Cincy, probably KC, against SF or Philly, probably SF.

KC and SF again, but we'll see. And if it's those 2, I would go with KC.

Allen has the best defense left in the AFC in Buffalo. The Niners and Eagles have good defenses in the NFC.

I agree that Allen doesn't take care of the ball, but neither does Mahomes in Kansas City and the Chiefs are bad on defense. Cincinnati is really banged up right now.

If I had to pick favorites right now, it would be Buffalo and San Francisco/Philly in the Super Bowl. There is still games and injuries to take place. Cincinnati, IMO, is close to done. Lots of injuries.

If I had to pick one team right now to win it all it would be Philadelphia. The Niners are a close second. Buffalo is third.

I couldn't bring myself to watch the Viking game yesterday, and I haven't read the comments about it.

But a win wouldn't have mattered anyway. I believe that the NFL has already identified this year's "Cinderella" team in Buffalo, because of the national response to the devastating Hamlin injury. Just like they wanted New Orleans to win the Superbowl after Katrina, and the refs were willing to *miss* dozens of penalties in order to insure their win in the NFCCG, the NFL will do what they can to make sure Buffalo wins this year.

Yep. I'm a cynic. 50 plus years of watching the sport has made me that way.

100% agree. Buffalo makes for the best storyline.

That's just to make up for the "X-Files" Smoking Man preventing Buffalo from winning the Super Bowl. [:D]
I don't like the idea of forcing a "charmed" team, but I am rooting for Buffalo. Lived in western NY for 14 years during the 0-4 SB, moved to MN in '98 and found I was fully trained for the disappointment of being a Vikings fan [>:]

Can NFL players take Adderall, or is that a banned substances for them ?

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/18/2023 11:37:50 AM)

Nevermind, I googled it, and it said that it is banned. I was a little bit surprised by that.

It would help Kirk to see things quicker.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/25/2023 8:23:43 AM)

I see a 49ers player was arrested this week. Could this be a distraction ?

It seems like guys getting arrested the week of a playoff game, that it is bad juju. I wonder if there is a stat on the % of those teams losing that same week ?

Another person that thinks Oz is pedestrian, that it would be a good idea to draft a Thielen replacement this year:

I like the idea of trading back, and picking a WR in the 2nd round, should have taken Watson last year, especially after that major 1st round run on WRs had the Pack desperate.

You and he, by extension, have zero credibility..

Simply put.

Unless a topnotch QB is available at our spot in a QB rich draft...We MUST draft defense.

WR is NOT a position of weakness at this time. QBOTF needs to be addressed this year. Cousins will likely be back next year and we will need his replacement in 2024.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/26/2023 4:00:41 PM)

I like the idea of getting a QBOTF, would probably take a flyer on one this year, and try to get one in the 1st round next year, if the flyer hasn't shown much potential.

I would mostly draft defense, but would grab a WR in the 2nd round, if he looks like the next Alshon Jeffery, has great size and speed, which would be the ideal complement to JJ.

Thor has more credibility than anyone in "Dani-world".

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: Other NFL News (1/26/2023 7:09:39 PM)

Your a fanboy of anyone who wants to draft a receiver..

It’s all you EVER talk about in draft discussions.

You ignore every other cocern of this team for two reasons,

Your obsession with wide receivers, and your love of the Green Bay packers.

Waste of time.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/26/2023 10:29:55 PM)

That's not true Danno. Last year I wanted the Vikings to pick QB Kenny Pickett with their first pick.

You must admit, Christian Watson probably would have been a better #2 WR this last season than Theilen, and that is in Watson's first season.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/26/2023 10:33:21 PM)

This year I would take QB Anthony Richardson with pick #23, but am guessing he will be long gone by then.

My guess is the Vikings will trade back, their first pick will end up being in the 2nd round, and it will likely be a LBer. Hopefully they choose a great one.

Would you rather take Lance with a 3rd round pick or Richardson?

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/27/2023 1:52:11 PM)

That is a really good question Phil.

Since I don't have faith in the % chance of Kirk going on a playoff run and winning the Super Bowl (I feel it's a very low %), and since it's so difficult to get a franchise QB without tanking a season or trading a boatload of picks, I would:

Trade Kirk, trade for Lance (hopefully just a 3rd round pick), trade down from #23, and IF Richardson is still there in the 2nd round, take him, and have Lance and Richardson battle it out for the QB spot.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/27/2023 1:56:39 PM)

To answer your question Phil, Lance would be the safer pick, and you're giving up a lot less with a 3rd round pick, rather than risking the first.

After looking at more highlights, I have changed my mind on Richardson at #23, he doesn't look as polished or quick as Pickett last year, Richardson looks more like a project. The Vikings should only take Richardson after a trade down, and take him in the 2nd or 3rd round, if he's still around.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/27/2023 2:00:24 PM)

This doesn't appear to be the year to get a QB, the best idea is probably go defense with the 1st 4 rounds, take a flyer on a QB with the last pick in the draft.

The best bet at QB appears to be Bryce Young, and he seems too small and short.

The best bet is probably to try and get Caleb Williams next year, I think Brad is right about him.

Ricky J -> RE: Other NFL News (1/29/2023 11:38:55 AM)

NFL.com saying Harbaugh and Broncos beet again, no offer made - I thought he told MI is was there for good after the Vikings interview?

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/30/2023 10:57:41 AM)

For the entertainment value, I would like to see Brady and Rodgers go to new teams, and fail.

It will be interesting who the starting QBs will be for Las Vegas, NY Jets, Miami, Carolina, New Orleans, maybe even SF.

Huh, I'm the opposite. I could root for Rodgers somewhere else real easy. Preferably in the AFC, though. And I never hated Brady.

If indeed Brock Purdy can have the UCL repaired and avoid Tommy John, the standard timeline for return is 6 months, giving him a chance to be ready right around the start of camp.

#49ers QB Brock Purdy suffered a complete tear of the UCL in his throwing elbow and will undergo surgery, per sources.

Purdy is getting second opinions, but the initial hope is he can undergo a repair — not reconstruction (AKA Tommy John) — and will be ready for training camp.

ronhextall -> RE: Other NFL News (1/30/2023 4:27:46 PM)

Guessing they won't be trading Lance at this point. Darn "iffy" no matter what.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/30/2023 9:08:48 PM)

IF I were SF, I would sign Brady (or Rodgers, or Cousins), try and trade Purdy, and keep Lance for QBOTF.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (1/30/2023 9:15:48 PM)

IF I were the Vikings, I would take a flyer on a non-1st round QB this draft, and assuming he doesn't work out, trade up in the 2024 draft (unless you have the 1st pick in the 2024 draft, which you could get if Cousins gets hurt, or is traded), and draft Caleb Williams.

marty -> RE: Other NFL News (2/8/2023 8:18:39 AM)

Even though it feels like Philly is the better team, I can picture Mahomes and KC winning the Super Bowl, and have a hard time picturing Philly winning it.

It could be more of the hype I have read or seen, has been about KC.

Is there a tendency for them to hype the underdogs more for the Super Bowl, or does it just seem that way ?
