Raiders hire Mayock as GM. Gonna be an interesting team to watch if nothing else over the next 5 years.

First Chucky, now Mayock?

Its like they're hiring people for the ratings...

The sad thing is it really isn't like that.

Even before the crazy run at the end of last year, this town supported the hell out of the Knights. Same thing with their slow start this year. I can't even count how many non-sports fans I know that hav been converted just by having a "home team".

It feels like the Raiders think its still Vegas in the 1970s, while the Knights understand its 2018.

Wow! Who will be the head scout Todd McShay? Or Mel Kiper?

The Knights also had a great scheme put in place for them to succeed, better than any other expansion team had. Not to mention they were alone unlike the Lightning/Sens or Panthers/Ducks expansions back in the day.

Credit them with the marketing, great story. Though I am glad they didn't win the cup, as a Leafs fan seeing a team just show up and win the cup would have been too much.

Any room on the coaching staff for Rich Eisen?

joejitsu -> RE: Other NFL News (12/31/2018 1:11:15 PM)

Marvin Lewis (finally) gets his pink slip. As well as a few other guys.

Spielman was a tv guy, not to their extent though.

Cleveland wins 1 game across 2 seasons 2016-2017, goes 7-8-1 in 2018, now it's time to fire your head coach after their best season in 11 years. That's why Cleveland will always be Cleveland.

They fired their head coach midseason when they only had two wins IIRC. Williams was interim. They could have hired him permanently but in the end it was starting Mayfield and the OCs work with him that changed the tone. Williams was a failure before as HC and half a good season probably shouldn't guarantee a job. Other coaches are interested in the job with a good young QB lots of talent on D, and a hungry fanbase. Bruce Arians has indicated he might be interested if Cleveland is. I don't think this decision is the worst at all.

Cleveland finally emerged from the shitpile it was in. By many accounts, it is one of the more sought after coaching jobs this offseason over the Cardianls, Broncos, Jets, Dolphins, Bengals.... Only the Packers job (with a certain HOF level QB) is more enticing IMO.

Yeah I saw that, I was going to just delete the post, but nooooooo. [;)]

David Levine -> RE: Other NFL News (1/11/2019 11:28:57 AM)

Fun fact:

Larry Fitzgerald has more career tackles (37) than dropped passes (29).

David F. -> RE: Other NFL News (1/11/2019 12:07:40 PM)

I love fun facts! Here's one:

Adam Vinatieri once tackled Hershel Walker - in an NFL game.

The Cardinals job was probably the worst one available. Their cupboard is pretty bare, and apparently their money situation isn't that good either to fix things anytime soon. They'll likely be in rebuild mode for years to come. Meanwhile, they're in a division that's become a lot more competitive. They were willing to offer McCarthy the option to be GM/Coach, and he turned them down.

Apparently McCarthy is taking the year off to be with family.

He was only interested in the NYJ job. Not sure why.

Here's the latest Todd Marinovich article put out by SI.

I cant imagine the people in recovery around here (and others, of course) not finding this an interesting read

I read that article yesterday. Incredibly well done. My favorite thing was that the author, in my opinion, truly understood the story. He/she made a point to note when Todd first started lying. The lying was the beginning of the addiction. Great article.

I agree.

As well as things have gone for me lately it was an eye opener even if I haven't traveled the same paths as TM. You never know what tomorrow can bring

Pats potentially lucky again with possible crap weather/quasi-blizzard conditions at Arrowhead and Mahomes not used to that weather.

Although I doubt there are many (any?) QBs that would be less affected by the weather throwing the ball.

Larry King @kingsthings

I'm told it's supposed to be 5 degrees and snowing on Sunday in Kansas City. Why can't they postpone the #AFCChampionship game? Fans will still come out & people will still watch on TV if they play it a few days later. It makes no sense to play in intolerable conditions.

5 degrees and snowing is intolerable? [sm=scratch.gif]

Some people are more about warm milk sitting in an old man chair by the fireplace.

I say storm it up!
